Madd 180... brings it.
I tried this board at the SES and had a great time on it, but couldn't make a critical assessment of it on all that sweet hero snow. At that time I was thinking the board turned much tighter than the rumored 22m equivalent sidecut radius. Out there I estimated 15 or 16m.
Got a chance to ride it this weekend at Sugarloaf - wow. On the harder snow it rode much longer, it's probably 17 or 18m. Certainly not 22m, but longer than the 15m board I used to have (and loved). Mike only gives his estimates of what the equivalent radius is, because it's not a radial sidecut. If you like armpit dragging down your favorite steeps at mach schnell, I recommend taking a test drive. I wouldn't have thought a 180 could go so fast, but the board never hinted at instability, and edge hold was superb. The board is lively and if you space out it can launch you. But you can channel that energy as well. That's not to say it demands constant attention like the 170, you can definitely relax on it and just lean it over if you need a break. Also the 180 length was quite maneuverable while not carving. I was even inspired to take it down a steep glade. Once I was in there it was a bit much to handle, but just the fact that I even tried tells you something. Anyway, I don't want to blather on about it. If you like fast boards, put this one on your list. |

Keep in mind that the forecast is for Kingfield, which is 25mi away (to the south) and it is generally 3-5ºF colder here than there. |

Madd 180
Just stepped off one about an hour ago - definitely a railin' machine. Requires some serious input, but it DOES give it back in spades! At just over a buck-and-a-half (my weight), my legs and core muscles were workin' OT - what a ride!
WTC continues... up to Park City tomorrow! |

Madd 180 and 170
Kirk,
Andrew cried the whole way home about leaving the Madd 170 he rode (hogged) for most of the day. It was great to see him rail like he did on a board he had never even heard of before today. Nice meeting you and your dad (and everyone else). Mark |

FUN DAY!
Mark,
Very nice meeting you and Andrew. And, yes, I could see it in Andrew's face that he did NOT want to go home without that 170. Looked like he was gettin' it wired too! And you were obviously hooked on that Donek. More gear than you could shake a...ski pole at! Sorry you couldn't make it up to PC today. Warm temps - spring is officially here! |

fun ride.
I got to ride the 180 at stratton the other day and had a good time on it! nice pop, fast transitions and nice and stable. I agree with jack in that the board turned much tighter than I thought it would for its "advertised sidecut radius."
Vanessa shot this quick vid clip (using a little olympus digital point and shoot camera. . . no sound) of me just screwing around on the 180. yeah, I know i was doing a whole bunch of stuff wrong here. . . but still thought I would still share. Unfortuneately we werent on a steep enough piece of terrain to really lay them out while keeping the speed up. That was earlier in the day!!! http://www.ourwalden.net/stratton2005/tsnowboarding.MOV ~tb Last edited by ~tb : March 9th, 2005 at 04:59 AM. |

Constant attention?
Jack, I'm curious about your comment on the 170.
Can you expand on this? That's not my experience at all. I found that board to be very predictable. And the 180 has pretty much the same characteristics but you've got more board, which is nice when the runs are wider. Eric |

170
Sure, the board is predictable, it's just very turny, imo. If you get lazy and let it run too fast, your next carve is going to happen very quickly. Whereas on the 180 you can just let it cruise. I think I'm a long board guy in general. I don't think I'll ever own a board shorter than 170 again.

Take that back Jack!!!!!!! Everyone needs a good Sl ride, it makes you remember how smooth and easy a G.S. board is to ride. Oh well, everyone has their own take on snowboarding. I'm just jelous that I have seen the 180 on several occasions, but have yet to get on it yet.

Check my new avatar
I tried the 180 at SES and had to have it. I now own demo #6 the Leveler, and boy it is a joy. Its high speed stability is unrivaled by boards even north of 200cm. I love it!
Too bad I am ordered no carving for 6 weeks, just had my appendix taken out. There should still be some snow left though =). |

Got to play on the "formula" for the past few days...BOy oh Boy...what a ride. The only way they will get it back is to pry it out of my cold dead hands. I think I am in love.
enough flattery... first night, I was a little scared to really get after it, and just kind of cruised. Second night...confidence was high and I started diving into the turns. The Board responded like a champ. Sit back, take it easy and carve big lazy turns, or get agressive and a fat bastard like myself can bend the hell out of this board and make it turn some pretty tight turns. Definitely Tighter than I was expecting after reading up on it, and it equvalent 22m SCR. I figure I had it turning like a 15. the long and short of...People on the lift were impressed... |
