How about splitting this Carving Community forum into more groups? I propose following additional groups:
* carving technique and equipment
* gatherings, carving sessions, contacts etc.
And this current carving community group would be for general conversation (for such topics, which do not fit into other groups).
This way it would be easier to navigate here and it will be more organized.

Yep, we have battled with this one before. Chop up the site into various areas or just keep it one large "conversation"?

To be honest, I do not think we have enough traffic to need other areas. Nothing worse than 15 forums topics with three posts in each. Looks bad.

However, if the day comes (might be sooner than we think!) and this forum starts going super nuts (ie. hundreds of posts an hour) then we would most likely add sections.

I think that regional forums could be of value... to organize meetings and such.... just a thought

This one has been a pain in the butt. The new area (as Jack described above) is something I have wanted to do for years.

However, most names we come up with do sound like dating services for desperate male carvers :D

Any ideas you guys have would be appreciated.

Then how about:
Crash board?
Blind contact?
Close encounters of Third Kind (don't ask what first 2 kinds are, I don't know!)
OK, it's friday night and I'm too exited over this new board (unfortunately without snow:( ) and coming weekend (unfortunately without carving  ) and couple of beers. So I guess that I should shut up....

I'm with Fin on this--some other forums I post on are split into several areas, and I always feel I should check several of them (because not every post can be easily buttonholed, and I wouldn't wanna miss too many...). This takes too much time--for a quick check, a single general forum like this one is best. A "meet and ride" area is different enough to warrant it's own forum, but beyond that I say don't split it up.

How about a special place for people that can tell us how great they are and how much every one else SUCKS !

This seemed to be a very popular theme on the old site.

The new polling feature would be good for this to.

Example

Is mr. X

a. the greatest carver ever
b. a legend in his own mind
c. the greatest "A hole" ever
d. all of the above

you get the idea.............

I'd be happy if there was a way to get back to the forum without going all the way back to the top when you are done reading a thread. Hitting the back button usually doesn't refresh the page. This will be useful when there are a couple of different sub-forums here and when there are more people posting and hanging out here to BS.
