ASPEN EXPRESSION SESSION 2000 - January 25th to 28th
What
a great week! It was the second Expression Session put on by Pure Carve
and all who made it where not disappointed. To see over a hundred carvers
getting together in one town was worth the trip alone. The Expression
Session has a very simple purpose, to get as many carvers together and
just make some turns. No competitions and no egos, just riding. Quite
a few international groups made the big trek. Groups from Finland, Switzerland,
and Hawaii had made the trip in excitement of riding with other carvers
from around the globe
The first day was at Buttermilk Mountain and conditions where good. The groomers had done their part and the mountain was ours. It was the first chance every one would meet and so introducing yourself and where you came from was going on all day.
If you lost the group you started with, no big deal, you just waited
5 minutes and another pack would come down the hill. You could really
sink an edge into the packed Colorado snow. The only thing holding you
back was your legs ability to stand up to the g-force created by your
endless series of hero carves.
That
night there was a dinner party at the main lodge at Buttermilk. A great
opportunity to see what that guy you met on the chair looks like with
out a helmet and goggles. A great dinner was supplied and was followed
by a raffle that seemed to include everyone as winners. The evening
finished with a very professional slide show with shots from last years
event.
The second day was at Aspen Highlands and mother nature decided to join
in the fun. It was at this time that it began to snow, and snow only
like it does in Colorado. I never thought I would say this but here
it goes.....damn that snow! Yes you heard me. Don't get me wrong I always
want the fresh stuff, just not when all I brought was carving gear.
But I made the best of it and still had a blast. Visibility was not
getting better so the majority of the group headed down the road back
to Buttermilk where the visibility was much better.
The third day was at Snowmass and mother nature was not stopping. The
fresh stuff still kept coming. The morning was great as you could go
as fast and as big n as you wanted as the terrain was groomed with 8
inches of fluff on it. What a blast. Nothing like making some sick turns
only to stop and watch 20 other guys (and gals) make the same sick turns.
The week ended where it started, Buttermilk. This rider had to leave
before this last day but from the reports it was fantastic as the snow
had stopped and the groomers worked it overtime. All and all a great
week with great people. It was good to finally meet some of the people
I had conversed with over the season. As far as next years event, count
me in
