    Whistler Conditions

Anyone have any recent updates on Whistler conditions? Can I leave my snorkeling gear at home? I'm heading out there for a week starting Feb. 27th. Any carvers going to be out there at the same time?

Currently all things considered its not bad right now.(not great as the base is low, but the only game in the pacific northwest as far as I know)

Realistically you will be riding the alpine n some of the mid mountain only.

This AM bright n sunny about minus five celcius ina alpine.

The tropical punch/pineapple express is gone so back to normal temps just not much fresh snow ( last was about 10-12 days ago) but the snow makers are able to function, they have been doing a good job on the grooming, most of the rocks are covered back up now in the groomies.

I will most likely up up around the 27th on, watch for the black n grey full face helmet likely to be spotted on the whislter side.

I'll be there from 3/02 (arrv) thru 3/06 (dept).

I'll keep watching the condition... (not that I have other choices, with tickets/reservation already purchased/booked )

I was just there as this is my reading week and I was lucky enough to have a friend with a hotel room...

We had good runs all over both mountains (didnt get to the whistler peak tho), with the midmountain of Blackcomb being slightly icier (in my opion, others in our group though Whistler was icier, but they dont ride plates)

We had four days of blue skies, so no new snow.... most of the groomers were crusty in the mornings and softened up some by the afternoon (it was sunny and around -3 celcius at the tops)

if it would just snow it'd be awesome

It's been sunny in Whistler for days on end which makes for great afternoons, throwing back a beer or two at the Longhorn.

The snow's not bad, all things considered. Snow would be great but the blue skies and warm temps make up for it.

Hmm, wondering whether I should bring bring out a beater board. Maybe I should resurrect an old Alp that I learned to carve on.

Wondering if I'll be running into a lot of rocks. A bit hesitant to take out one of the new Coilers that I just got.

No one in my group is really into carving. If anyone would like to hook up for some turns, suggest a time and place where we might be able to meet up.

    Thanks,
    Gabe

    Travel Tips...

Long story short, someone got sick at the last minuite, so we're canceling this trip. While I was trying to cancel all my travel arrangements, here's an interesting thing I found out that I thought I'd share...

Through the Whistler/Blackcomb "Central Reservation" (888-403-4727), I had booked a round-trip Perimeter bus service from the airport to the Village & back.
(My money first goes to Central Reservation, then they pay Perimeter.)

When I initially tried to cancel it, Central Reservation didn't want to give me a refund, per their 15-day cancellation policy. So, next I called Perimeter directly, just in case. Interestingly, I found out that Perimeter will refund fully until the day before.

So, in my case, while I don't get refunded by Central Reservation, Central Reservation still would have gotten refunded by Perimeter. (aka "double-dipping")

Anyway, I had Central Reservation talk to Perimeter, and am getting refunded by Central Reservation.

    Lessons learned here...
#1 - Try to book all pieces of travel components directly & individually, not thru a centralized agent for everything, if/whenever/wherever possible
#2 - It pays to make extra calls & check around when canceling
(thanks to a help/push from my wife, who's much more travel-savvy & a better consumer at this than I am, while I would've just given up easily)
