    Cypress Diaries 2011-12

    Welcome to our annual thread!
This is the earliest opening day, ever!

I believe Cousin of Beagle is there today. Roy and me might go tomorrow and on the weekend.

There might be some very good news re. alpine – stay tuned…

We wish you a lot of days like this:

Opening Day - Tuesday November 8

Rock star parking at 9:30. First chair just after 10:00.

Upper Maelle Ricker to mid and lower JJ was the only run open.

Snow is mostly from guns. Off trail, the natural snow is sparse.

Spring conditions. Good coverage. No rocks at all on-piste. Flat light. Slightly drizzly.

The hill is looking GOOD... let's keep our fingers crossed that the temperatures stay cold for the rest of the week.

    A Bit Crowded

Only one run was open, so meat-gates were aplenty.

Think: the Whistler ski-out at the end of the day.

went up today to see what's what. pretty dismal conditions really. a single narrow run, huge line & minimal coverage (some nice brown snow). an exercise in dodging rocks & meat pylons. and they shut down the hill 2:30ish after a close lightning strike. not sure opening the hill with such minimal coverage was a great idea; more of a marketing ploy than anything methinks. anyways, looks like more (natural) snow in the forecast for next week, so hopefully things will improve for net w/e. i'd personally stay away until more runs are opened.

Paid ~4$ for lift ticket with CASI card. Great deal!

Condition is pretty good for carving, except too much traffic and big line-up. Hopefully, more run will be opened and still discount lift ticket.

We did few runs down Panorama, in nice sunny weather. Pretty busy for Monday!
Machine packed with some loose from snowguns. Lots of loose rocks and some ice chunks.

This afternoon we still played 1hr of tennis. Gotta love Vancouver!

I went to Cypress today too!
    I didn't see you guys

I picked up some rocks and throw them away for you guys
But still so many rocks were there.

orange : rock (blue : icy)

lots of people, rocks and out of shape...
But it was good for my exercise.

I smelled pot at run and parking lot. What the hell?
Innocent people might get hit by those potheads.
    Please enjoy smoking at home.
    I don't like people who don't give a sh!t about other people's safe.

Anyway, it was fun today and I might go there again until this weekend.

Thanks BlueB for letting me use your snowboard.

I wish they rebuilt the superpipe! Unfortunatelly it's just an old photo...

Kaz, I think that I've seen you... Luka and me were inside the lodge when someone walked past, outside in RED hardboots.
He's too slow to start running after the people, especially when wearing ski boots...

Pot on the slopes and pretty much everywhere - welcome to Vancouver. Didn't you smell two guys in the car, when we skated on Saturday? Sad.

Roy, I think Kaz does think BEFORE weekend...
    Yeah, Thursday is the plan!

    Uh, almost forgot to mention:
I got taken out from behind, by a softbooter. Not a very viollent hit, but still went right under me and released my ski in the process. I was gratefull that he missed Luka

We've also seen someone taken down in the tobogan, by the patroll.

Yeah. I meant BEFORE sorry... easy mistake.
    I must be tired

I used the map picture from cypress homepage.
I'm not sure it's exact but it was like that.

A young guy cut in my line from behind. I don't like it too.
Some people just go straight and fast. They don't know how to make a turn.
But they wanna show off jump and stuff. Shame on you.
Learn rules at run and then making a turn.

Have fun early in the season my friends. I will wait until at least 1m of descent coverage. I love my Rock Board so much. Also more coverage will be more friendly with my stiff back if I wipe out. Most likely to happen. So out of shape.

I went over to the dark side and road my soft boots for a few years. So it is time to break out he Trench diggers again. Just waiting for enough snow so I don't find rocks at the bottom of said trenches.

I don't as of yet know any local hard shell riders so I hope to meet a few of you as we get more snow.
