    howdy all
skiwhitefish website was down this morning so i called the snowreport
they reported 3 inches. got ready with the softboots and was running
late, looked at the mountain and had a gut feeling i should bring the
hardboots. half way to the bus stop i see him turning so i missed it.
went back home and got the hardboots and caught the later bus.
good thing as there was no 3 inches, but soft groomers. very high
clouds just over the big than some clouds, fog and light snow about
noontime than start to slowly clear and by 4pm sunshine. kinda funny
snow, thick yet soft and was leaving deep trenches. it was cooler
than supposed to be, temps were just right.

well, after this past week of having the flu and still feeling it, riding today
felt good and made me feel better. went to a meeting in the morning and
got on snow at noon. there was an inversion in the morning, but high winds
blew it out about 10am then sunshine. stayed on chair 2 cause of the
high winds. groomers were a little bumpy, but very carveable. was a fun
    day and pushed it hard.

beautiful bluebird day, perfect groomers, it hasnt snowed for a week and
its getting buffed out smooth. the inversion of the past few days warmed
up the top part of the big and it was icier on top, but groomers were good
top to bottom. no wind and cool temps kept things just right all day.
pushed it hard today and i'm feeling way better.

Headed out in a week. Perhaps some of you locals can tell us - where's the best deal to be had for lift tickets, we're looking for 5 days worth for 4 people. One's 16 if that matters, the rest adults.

the big fog all day, fog all the way down till bottom of eds run, still could see alittle and
some times thicker. just find your way down then rip a few carves when you can see.
snow was a little wet with all the humidity and rubbing googles to clean off the light rime.
there was hardly anyone up here and lines were nil. forcast is the same for tomorrow.
i'll bring out the big gun tomorrow.

started the day sunny then after two runs gets cloudy then slowly gets
back to sunny. big mtn reported three inches new and snow must have
stop during grooming as some spots were groomed without snow on it.
not the best carving day but still had fun and pushed it pretty hard.
got bumped up pretty fast but the groom was still underneath and was
    very carvable.

Sorry to miss you Allee, but I'm on my way out of the country right now. You missed some challenging steeps carving Thursday. They winch groomed the "Chute" (south end of Big Face), Heep Steep. Those, along with Corkscrew and Middlefork made at least 1500 vertical feet of butt puckering turns all in one run. It took me 4 tries to get a clean run down the Chute, which makes Heep Steep feel easy in comparison. Hero snow, even at 2:00 PM when I arrived. Hope you have fun this weekend.

Ha ha ha, what a great day. 3 in of fresh. First runs off Ed's, pow over groom. That lasted abiut half an hour, then over the back to play in the powder piles and leave some tracks on Whitetail. Got lost in the fog, ended up on Chair 4, did some runs in the trees (why have I not been here before? fun!!) Back to Chair 1, down Big Ravine (disappointing). Quick 15 mins at Ed and Mullys to chow down some killer soup, headed back out and ran into Aaron. so we went over the back and ran three laps down Silvertip, which was pretty much untouched and made for fantastic surf-style carving (run of the day, right there!!) Ran out of legs, quick trip down Toni Matt (bumpy and push-piled) and into the hot tub. Yay! Now to track down the girlfriends and see if we're partying tonight...

Rumour has it there's a storm rolling in tonight that might bring up to 8 in. See what tomorrow brings!!

the big fog was thick early and way down to chair 6. was looking for allee
all morning and was going to lunch when i see her getting back from her
lunch break. first few runs on eds were great, three inch over groom, just
lay it over and cut right thru. then it was a few fun runs with allee on the
backside, and just for the record i was not part of the hot tub. (hahaha)
fog slowly lifts till end of the day, got bumped up fast with huge crowds.
as always the fog lifts at 4pm. first day on a new to me 161 yonex, this
board will work better on firmer groom, fun board.

Sunday, and fried by 1pm ... what a lightweight! Mully's was covered in fresh and like silk first thing this morning, and I practiced my hands on the snow pow carves on Ed's for a couple of runs. Scooted over the back when Chair 1 opened, headed for Silvertip, took a wrong turn and ended up on Goat Haunt ... oh well, no problem, always another lap - almost ran over another boarder ... one of my girlfriends - I missed them at their hotel last night. So rode with her and her friends for a couple of laps, and then we dropped in to Glory Hole - how much fun is that run??? Ran down to the bottom, back to the top, and then spent the rest of the morning running powder piles off Chair 5 in zero visibility - soft landings :-) Ran out to the bottom via Heep Steep and Moementum? - swishy pow turns - everyone else went in for lunch, I did one more down Glory Hole, and that was the end of my legs. Front side is moguls and bumps all over, and the snow is still coming down. They'll get their 8 inches and probably more by the end of the day.

What a great day. One of the best riding days I've had for a very long time, even if you had to ride by Braille for the entire day.

Killer riding, coffee, red velvet cake and a hot tub. And it does not get better than that.

Safely back in Calgary after a fantastic morning on the hill. The snow was still coming down all morning, first runs of Mully's and Ed's were smooth as silk. Saw Aaron in the lineup for Chair 2, but there's no friends on a powder day! Did three laps off Chair 2, and then onto Chair 1. Chair 1 was fogged in as usual, but there was a whole lot of hootin' and hollerin' going on from in the trees down below. Was going to head over the back, but Toni Matt looked irresistible - and it was, boot deep pow and untracked lines down the front for two runs. (Saw Aaron off the lift, looking very styley in the soft stuff). I wanted to be on the road at midday, so headed over the back and did three runs off there - looks like they didn't do a whole bunch of grooming over there last night, pretty bumpy in spots ... then back over the front, still finding good pow lines next to the trees, and into the car for the long drive home.

Neil and Aaron - sorry I missed you guys this morning ... Neil, hope you have a good week. And make sure you take a run down Glory Hole before you leave - you'll love it.

See you guys next season!! I wont be down for closing as I have blown the budget for the year, have to save up for the summer mountain bike trips now. You'll be set for snow for a while now, at least!!

foggy, snowing all day, five plus inches new. sorry allee i did not wait up,
and yes, "there's no friends on a powder day!", always hurrying up to find
untracked pow and there was plenty to look for. and sorry neil, but its hard
to find softbooters on a foggy pow day. today was one of the better powder
days, cool enough and no rime, comfortable temps, snowing all day and
good creamy pow. just enjoyed the day, even with huge crowds and shut
the place down at 4pm. did a bunch of hellroaring runs and rode chair 4 and 5.
and allee glad you made it home safely and sorry about the suicidal deer.

We're all taking the day off tomorrow due to trashed legs and the impending windstorm. Maybe we'll run into each other Thursday or Friday. I'm in all black on an orange flame Coiler or a black Tanker 2K.

another foggy day just on the edge of being too wet. must have rained
last night cause the face and the top part of hellroaring had a thick crust.
the four inches of new over groom was kinda heavy wet snow. not the
best day, but still had fun, yesterday was way better. first run on toni
matt was one of the sweetest untracked bump free rides.

again another foggy day with four inches new over groom. snowing all
morning and got a little windy in the afternoon and started to refill. huge
weekend crowds cut things up really fast and lines were long. had some
fun pow runs, but really need some epic groomers. another good pow day.

ZOMG. "drools" And you had to work? Did nobody tell you you can always find another job, but you can never replace a powder day?

You guys need to stop hogging the snow down that way. Fernie's had 4 1/2 feet in the last week too. Guess where I'm going this weekend? "happy"

I was driving home in that storm. I was on the lift on Friday with a couple of locals who were talking about some resort in Idaho that had gotten 36" overnight Thursday and another 20-something the day before.

Made it back to town Friday; just in time for this dump. It was epic. Both snow and crowds. You must have been the only one who didn't call in sick. Why couldn't it have been today (Monday)? The singles lines were backed up Middlefork all morning. I hate lift lines, so I rode powder stashes in the trees between Chair 2 and Big Ravine all morning, then finally began lapping Hellroaring Basin in the afternoon. It was enough snow to bring out my 176 F2 for the first time this season; not my typical tree runner, which would be a Fish, but the float was better. Switched to Nidecker Megalight 167 in the afternoon; it was happy with conditions too.

No friends on a powder day. Not intentional, but avoiding the crowds, I apparently avoided my buddies too. Shoot some video, but nobody to follow cam.

P.S. Today was the same snow, but S U N N Y ! ! ! Woo Hoo! Worked down in size to a 163 Megalight. Maybe tomorrow I'll downsize all the way to the Fish and explore even tighter trees, though they don't come much tighter than what I've already been riding.
Fresh snow is like fresh bread; it's only fresh for a day.
