This was an interesting sale on ebay UK - Palmer Platinum sold for $176 http://www.ebay.com/itm/290665801749...84.m1423.l2649. No photos, and no feedback on this sale, but starting to get negative feedback on other sales. Either seller has been struck with problems or identity has been stolen by very smart scammer.

Tough call Bob. I have definitely heard rumours and I have seen numerous boards of questionable lingage or provenance.

It is definitely case by case. Having handled allot of early snowboards, It is fairly obvious to me if a board has been re-touched let alone "Cloned" or re-created.

The question comes up most often with "New Old Stock" or unknown maker vintage "one_off".

This are can get pretty blurry. There are NOS boards still out there, when they surface the "how is this possible" and "Is that fresh paint?" questions come up.

How do you confirm if the board was built in the eighties if it is the only one? Four owners removed? Do you have a super rare one off built in the shop of a boat builder in the midwest or a board built by a so cal surf shop five years ago?

Santa Cruz Alpha BB 162.5 for only $1500, it's cheap because it's used
I had this board in mid 90's, lasted me 5-6 days; the base opened up from tip to tail...
Still, it has been my favorite asymmetric board. I made my mom drive from Québec city to B-side in Vermont to buy it at the time...
I got a replacement from Santa Cruz but it was the next year model with the symmetrical shape and asymmetrical sidecut. I was pretty dissapointed.
I'm even more dissapointed now that I see it for sale @ $1500, I could sell it now and by myself a nice Kessler

If it looks too good to be true, it probably is http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAP...e=VIP:feedback At least it doesn't sound like it was a scam.

He has been listing this board along with others at approx 10x it's value for a year or more. Trolling for a buyer with more money than common sense or knowledge of current value. IMO

You see that a lot. An ebay dealer (often pawn shop) does too little research and comes up with a silly price.

The Video is classic. He messures them, doesnt mention they are fully adjustable and mentions nothing about the built-in cant plates. but they come with a leash... that is broken.

Oh great, I'l buy both of them. With two I could start a collection of them. As I acquire more, I could control the price and in a few years they would be going for $20,000 ea

I could store them with the five thousand cabbage patch dolls I'm controlling the market with.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/270932299906...84.m1555.l2649

    my 2 cents
I understand that auction is a game, but reserve price sucks. I always ignore auctions with a reserve. if you don't want to sell it for less than a certain amount. be upfront, make that the starting bid.

The thing about reserve prices that puzzles me is that if the reserve price is say $300 a la Tex, current bidder's max bid is $250 and I set a max bid of $350, the high bid then goes up to $251 or whatever. If there are no more bidders after me, no one wins the auction. Even if I raise my max bid. At least, I think I've had this happen. Can anyone confirm or offer contrary experience? If true it seems like a bug--ebay leaving something on the table. Willing seller and willing buyer don't get connected, ebay doesn't collect the hefty fees (more if you have a reserve price).

my experience has been that if you make a bid above the reserve price, the current bid becomes what the reserve price was set at.

Reserve is a tricky balance. Too high = kills the "Auction Fever" effect. Too low = fail to protect your value.

The art is picking a reserve low enough to insure you don't loose too much without killing the buzz.

Tex. If this were my auction. I would have a starting price at 75 to 90$, Buy Now at high price of 299 or 349. Well above the going market price. Shipping of 30$.

If it of course your auction. Get the game started by envolving as many bidders as possible. You need a carrot to get it going. That carrot is a price below market value.

    Good luck in your sale.

Bryan, it's up to $100 bid at this point with 4 unique bidders. Would you reccomend dropping the reserve to get some excitement? or just let it ride out. If I do that the BIN goes away.

Here is one you guys might enjoy watching. MINT BB1 , currently at 6200$ , reserve not met.

This one looks too good. If it wasn't one of Jake's personal boards I would be suspect. Too perfect.

I know Jake set boards aside every year. Makes me wonder how many of these they have in the archives?
His first proto types are no doubt priceless.

Sold for 11,200$ A pretty penny, however it is without a doubt the nicest bb1 I have seen. I have seen them offered BIN for over 20K. That seems way overpriced. In comparison, this is a good value.
