Who got me into this sport?!

Well with all these teaser pics of snow on the web and me still 3 months away, I had to get out and play with this summers new toy, my Insect longboard.
Anyway...whoever said "hey ghost..you should get a longboard" is a bad influence!!
I've maintained a relatively injury free riding season, but now I'm getting in trouble with the fuzz.
I ride on my universitys campus, bombing decently lit hills at night to avoid traffic. In the past the Department of Public Safety has told me "thats not very safe you know" or "you cant skateboard on campus" but they never really did anything about it other than give me the look like I was crazy. But tonight I guess was the last straw.
While I was bombing my favorite hill, I got a good start and was going to see how fast I could go...well as I'm cruising along at a pretty good speed in the normally 25mph speed zone, I get flashed with a bright light from the adjacent parking lot. I turn around and "woop woop" *flash flash*...next thing ya know..Im getting pulled over.
Mr. Po-lice man then gives me a lecture about how he doesnt want to have to clean me up off the road and then continues to tell me that I was "Exceeding the speed limit on a skateboard" and that I am going to be escorted off campus.
Anyway, breaking the law is nothing to brag about..but there is just a certain pride I feel in knowing that I stuck it to the man by "Exceeding the speed limit on a skateboard."

    Yes you should... lol.

A friend of mine had a similar experiance recently. It was around 2am and he was at the top of one of our main streets (Smythe). We're talking a good 1000'-1200' of vertical drop and straight as an arrow. I think the length from top to bottom is about 20 city blocks.

He (Jody) started out pushing at the very top (the first 6-8 blocks are slightly sloped, then the hill gets steep). A car pulled in behind him and flashed their lights at him indicating they wanted to watch him. So he pulls into the center of the lane and proceeds to bomb the hill. He is maching down. and gets about 1/4-1/3 of the way down, and 2 cars are coming up the hill. The 2nd car was an RCMP car, and they rolled the lights on him.

So he keeps going (he estimates close to 70Km/h or 45MPH), just having a good time and the RCMP car pulls out around the car that is following him, pulls up beside, and tells him to stop. Jody replies "At the bottom!", they tell him again to stop, and again he replies "At the bottom!". The RCMP car starts forcing jody towards the curb, tells him to grab onto the car to slow down. He tried that, and got a major speed wobble.

At this point they were about 2-3 blocks from the bottom, and they just reached a minor intersection. So Jody pushes off the car, rides up on the sidewalk, dodges back in front of the RCMP car, and pushes off the front. The RCMP accelerate past him, turn the car sideways, and stop right in front of him. Jody goes airborne... rolls across the hood, hits the ground and rolls 5 times and ends up on his back. Then he is told "get on your stomach and put your hands behind your back". They hold him in the car for over an hour while local police show up and they discuss what they're going to do.

They ended up talking him to the hospital, and then home. No charges were laid.

In this country he'd be suing the Troopers for attempting to injure him. I can't believe those guys did that. They could have killed your friend. It wasn't like he was going to get away. They could have just waited at the bottom of the hill. F~cktards.

Thats really crazyness...don't you guys have Newtons laws up there in Canada?! I mean I assumed in physics class that those were international laws...but maybe you guys have an ammendment to the 1st law that I'm not aware of??

I thought I was gonna lose it when he spotted me with the spot light cuz he yelled at me to stop as I flew by and the flash of the light scared me...I thought I was about to get T-boned by a semi truck or something. Luckily I was near the bottom of the hill so i could roll out some speed and use my hoodie to catch some air until I was stable enough to put a foot down.
But geeze...I tell ya, when I grow up (heh) Im gonna be able to make a modern version of Dogtown & Z-Boys thats not about territorialism..but about how the man is keepin us down!!!

PS: Did anybody see that they are making a hollywood version of Dogtown & Z-Boys?? Its called "Lords of Dogtown"..supposed to be out in the summer of 2005. Its staring johnny knoxville and some other people...It ought to be interesting but it doesnt look like any of the original guys are gonna be in it.

I believe he is in the process. It was funny though, because he walked away with only 2 bruses. After he finished telling me the story he said "F@$K I wish I was hurt more!"

You mean "A body in motion tends to stay in motion unless acted upon by an outside and opposing force"... I think we modified it to "A body in motion tends to stay in motion until the RCMP says so!". Oh well, at least George W. isn't the leader of my country, screwy physics and all.

turns out, it IS a crime

So I used to think those "skateboarding is not a crime" bumper stickers were metaphorical...as in, "don't hate me because I'm on a skateboard" sort of thing. Then I was halted one day by a mounted cop who informed me the roughly 50-block area encompassing both my office building and every reachable food establishment downtown is a no-skateboading zone. Beware the burrito-fed coder and his slalom-wheeled longboard...truly a menace to civilized society.
