Thanks Dan, really appreciate the update. I considered it. How were the crowds? I hope to get some time on the hill when the rain stops later this week?

I was supposed to be there today also on skiis but my oldest has a bad cold so sleep in! A friend texted and said it was nice ! Thanks...
Maybe Wed ? rain tomorrow?
Sounds like heavy rain , low freezing level Tuesday.
Clearing perhaps starting Wed or Thursday.
Not handy for us, deadly for the 50 yr old hiker on Mt St Helens tonight.
I hope they can get to him in time.![]()
Plan to ride Wednesday.
Radio on.

Beautiful sunny day, low wind. UNTIL NOON or so then clouds rolled in big time.
Firm in the am. So-so grooming, south facing pitches softened nicely. Cascade had the best potential, the snow was lighter and drier. Grooming was not very wide on my favorite runs or non-existant.
My guess in the week will be more of the same. I heard "Clear" for up to 2 weeks!!!! Some of the areas that had been sheets of ice actually became really sweet carving corn. Tinkler was tearing it up. I was wimpering all day. Trying to get off the anti-inflam. drugs. Evidently I still need them. Felt like the 15" rod in my leg was flexing against bone, everytime I pressured it. Skied the last hour, started out less painful, but didn't last long. Hurt bad walking back to the truck, fortunately I was front row (of course).

Thanks for the update. Looks like lots of freeze and thaw over the next week. We will be up tomorrow (Thao, her bro, and me). Sorry about the pain Bryan. Hopefully, things will work themselves out.
Dan
I think the key will be hitting that magic time when the snow is softening but not scraped off and piled up. The corn could be very good!!
Wish I could have been up there but my kids had "late opening" today at school and didnt get to drop them off till 10am .
Jim
Never try to figure out this mountain. Thought for sure that Cascade would have stayed cold enough to give me some early morning turns, but I was highly disappointed with the firm bumpy groom that was laid out for us. Think the high wind and windchill threw me a curve. Anyway, HRM turned out to be the best. Temps stayed more constant with no wind.
Give us more snow and cold temps and sanity will return to the carve crazed.

Thanks Dan, trying to decide on Friday
dirt starting to show at bottom or hrm, they will close if we don't get snow in the next week or so.
Shame. They can have great coverage for 95% of the run, and a short session forces them to close it.

Made a late call and went up today. Weather was beautiful, but the snow was made for two stickers. Very firm everywhere with small pockets of corn snow. Makes me wonder if should learn how to ski.
More snow and cold weather please.

one more pic of my snow bunny and her bro.
Tomorrow anyone?
Hey Jim.
I might be? I would like to try out a couple new things
SVR was up today (Sunday) said it was very hard. I would like to have riden with him, just couldn't get up after an 1.5 hrs of sleep.
It was great to see him again and always enjoy his knowledge of snowboards and had a great day even though I didn't ride.
If I go Monday, I might choose to use a NAS ?
You?? Last day of sun for a while?
I guess I better turn off the Olympics and hit the hay.

Bacon will get you through times of no money better then money will get you through times of no bacon.
Todays test went very well, the snow was much better than l expected! !!!
I am headed to the not OES next week and will be stopping at Hood Meadows on the way down. I will be there Mon + Tue. Bachelor on Wed. I should be at the lift before 9:00. I am hoping to ride with some of the locals.
Just got home from MHM. Jim and I benefited from the fact that everyone including us was not expecting much. SVR was up Sunday and it was knarly. Spoke to others at the hill today that said the same. The winds were very light and even dead still at times. Mind you, there were areas on the most popular runs that the hardpack and ice under the tilled snow was
obvious when you road across it. I would say 80% was firm, tilled and smoother than normal. You could set an edge and it would hold well enough to charge fairly hard. It was very uncrowded. Parking lot was only 1/3 full when I left at 1 something.
The SW SI mod worked great. No issues. I have posted more details on the other thread . Photos from todays test run.

Hi Kram, cool. Hopefully we can hook up at MHM. I pretty much decide in the am if I am going for sure. However, Mon and Tuesday are my regular days.
Bryan
Will you have email access on the road?
MHM has a couple public computers in the lodge, you could check that morning to see if anyone has posted they are coming. Do you have a FRS radio?
Nope. i usually work a 3-4 day weekend. Will be there wed-fri, sounds like we will get some much needed snow.

I kinda felt for the poor gal at the end riding along trying to sort out her goggles. Go back and follow her from further up. She probably should have just stopped cleared the goggles and then enjoyed the rest of that excellent powder run. She was probably afraid her over amped boyfriend was going to be STEAMING at the bottom for holding him up. We are such dumbsh!ts. The bottom half of the run was REALLY good pow. MJ just "Hangin" at the bottom enjoying the glow that a good untracked pow run can give you. He was riding with like 6 people having a blast!!
The Sandman is an excellent hardbooters pow / carve board. The rocker makes it really very easy and manageable on all sorts of snow surfaces.
