    Fin Tec pins

Hey guys. I got the new pins without directions on how to take apart the heel without messing it up? Anyone made the change? I just got back from Park City. 5 days on the new heels and receivers, no problems at all. Great snow, and we had 6 alpine riders on Friday. Great fun!

I changed mine yesterday fairly easily. I started having problems with the old pins at about about five days, so if you haven't had problems you may start soon.

Here's what I did (somewhat from memory so excuse any mistakes?). YMMV. :

    1) unscrew heel, no need to remove liner or anything, just let it dangle.

    2) remove the single screw holding the black plastic inner plate to the metal heel.

    3) use a flathead screwdriver to pry the black plastic plate from the heel, using the slot provided on the rear of the plate towards the uhh ... heel of the heel.

    4) lift the rotating arm from the center of the mechanism (what the wire is attached to). It is attached at the center at a pivot point. This is where the plate screw drove through. Once you do that the heel is free of the boot completely. Be careful not to de-grease the part.

    5) You can remove the springs that press against the plastic blocs that hold the metal pins, but I am not sure that it is necessary. I did, but in retrospect, I probably could have skipped this step.

    6) Use a pair of fine pliers or tweezers to lift the (small) retaining pins that lock the old pins into the plastic blocks. These are appear as two metal discs (these are the pin heads). They should lift out easily, no force is required (at least, without the springs in).

    7) You should now be able to remove the old heel pins easily just by simply pulling them out.

    8) Replace the old pins with the old ones.

Bevery mindful of pin orientation. DONT put the pins in upside down by accident, as that would increase your risk of premature binding release by about a zillion percent, "possibly resulting in serious injury or death".

    9). Reassemble.

Do you mean 4 & 5? You might have done it without step four ... but without step three you can't get inside of the mechanism to unlock the pins ... maybe you just didn't use a screwdriver?

    not wasting time...

The first heel I did the long way, the second one the easy way. I also pulled apart an Intec heel and found the inner workings are interchangeable. So if you ever need to fix a broken internal piece you can swap them out of your old heels. I do not know if they are exactly the same but close enough for field repairs.

    thanks

Just haven't got my new pins in. So I did change them from an old broken intec set. Thanks for the manual.

Be careful, the old Intec pics might not be the same hardness as the new Fintec pins. Remember that the problem was that they were not hard enough, causing the wear on the pins. The old Intec pins might not be hard enough either for the Fintec heel receiver. The old Intec used Aluminum receivers, no? Except for the new F2 system...
