    Moving to Fairbanks

    Hello Riders.

I will be moving to Fairbanks, AK sometime this coming Spring. More than likely I will be there in April. I recently finished up my 26th month (down to the wire, November 30th!) and need some info to try and keep turning all year while I am in the North.

Anything from AK riders would help. I am in desperate need to find some Summer snow caches!

there is a great slope in Girdwood, AK which is around 8 hours from Fairbanks. i used to live in Anchorage. I am not to familiar with that area up there. I know if you travel south on the delta highway there is some mountains but you will have to hike them. there is also Valdez which again i am not to sure how far that is away from you i do know at least a few hours. Either way you will have to drive and stay. I do know that you wont be disappointed with the mountains. Hope this helps.

BTW what are you doing up there in Fairbanks?

    Cool.

Looks like 3-day journeys will be happening in order to keep up months 31+.

I hope to be going to school at UAF. Other than that I'll be living the AK life as it has been described to me by friends from there. Outdoorsy stuff and fresh buds.

    Thanks for the info, buddo.

valdez is extremely far from where you are, road-wise, but it's some sick riding...all backcountry. then there's alyeska in girdwood. biggest resort in ak. more known for it's steeps than for carving, but it's still fun to hb there. if you;re planning a trip in the spring-best snow conditions, to alyeska let me know, hopefully i'll be recovered and back on my board. i can give you a little tour. if not, there are a few hills in fairbanks that can keep you turning until you can reach a real mountain. anyway, why did you choose uaf when uaa is so much closer to where the riding is?

Lot of reasons as to why I chose UAF over UAA. The most obvious reason would be their geology and geophysics programs. UAA seemed more geared toward liberal arts and marine biology.

At any rate, I plan to ride as much of the state as I can while I am working on my degree.

Thanks for the infos. Slowly getting better ideas about AK snow. It is exciting.
