    Kiteboarding in MN

    FWIW:
I got a response from BestKiteboarding.com about their
RV kiteboarding tour - sounds like they are stopping through
    Minnesota next weekend.
The tour is going to have a demo next weekend in Malax, the kitecrossing.
But it will be next weekend 29th-2nd.
I'm not sure if there is cost involved with demos - they must mean "Mille Lacs."

the crossing is run by fleet 8. started 20+ years ago as a windsurfing race. now they also do a winter race for kites.

for lessons and all things kite / windsurfing related in the twin cities, check out www.windancing.com

and please, please take a lesson before you try this sport. the kites are wickedly powerful. you can easily be 20 feet in the air, and the lakes aren't too soft this time of year.

    Lakawa

You may also want to check out LAKWA.COM. There is a lot of Kite activity on Lake Calhoun. I this Scuba Center in Mpls is pretty involved too. Bob

If at first you don’t succeed, avoid skydiving.

it should read lakawa.com. it's actually the same site as windancing.com

if you want to see kites on calhoun, go during the winter. the kiters try to stay off the lake in the summer for the safety of pedestrians and all the traffic around that lake during the summer. go to white bear, waconia, cannon, and mille lacs for water kiting action.

I've been on Mille Lacs on mild to moderately windy days. It gets seriously crazy out there. I should say scary. Nobody goes out on really windy days, except maybe crazy people. I would be seriously impressed with anyone on any type of windpowered device/vehicle out there in heavy wind. I've actually seen boats thrown up on the shore. There can be some serious rollers out there. I could see it being fun for someone with lots of experience though.
