Looking for a full faced helmet like the Salomon that someone listed earlier. I need it to fit a 60-61 cm head. I think that makes it XL or XXL. Giro would be cool as well.

Thanks

Hey Darren,

I've got a R.E.D. (Burton) MT-1 from a couple of years ago that's a size XL. My head is 61cm and it fits like a glove. I wore it probably 10-12 times total, and never crashed in it. It's bright red w/dragons on the side. Shoot me your email, and I'll send you a couple of pics.

Hey,

I have been pondering yours for a while. My head is 61cm though. Unless there is any padding customization that can be done.

If you can figure out how to fit into the soloman, get it. I bought one early in the season and absolutely love it. It breathes well, to the point I need a thin cap on cold days, secure as hell, doesnt block view and can take a lump.

If you are really interested, either shave or sanding (would be better) the inner rigid foam of the helmet, which is fairly easy or find a simliar shaped rigid foam core your size to place in it. Shaving or sanding would be your best best. I have done it with some of my other sport helmets on "hot spots" on my head. Dremel tool works well and even regular sand paper.

Here are some pics to show innards of helmet. Keep in mind a pad webbing also exists inside the helmet foam.

Do the first 2 pictures show the foam that resides inside the Helmet in the third picture? It doesn't look like that foam would fit inside the helmet.

How's this?

The soft foam inside the inside the last picture in the first group is attached (velcroed- sp?) to the helmet. The second set of pics show the additional thinner foam that velcro's to the rigid foam that would be sanded.

After rereading your question, there are four different foam systems inside the helmet.

Light grey foam glued to rigid compressed foam (dark grey looks like bicycle helmet)
Compressed foam dark grey
Black thin foam, stitched, that velcros to the rigid foam
These three make what is inserted into the helmet shell.
Lastly
Foam pads that velcro to the inside of the helmet shell.

You may need to get new grey pads once you sand, but they are pretty sticky and you should be able to reuse if you clean up foam sanding particles.

That is going above and beyond!! Are you a friend of wavechaser? :biggthump
I am leaning toward the Salomon. I might just buy both and resell the other one....

Just commented on an old post when I shouldnt have and just trying to help him out. Plus its not to often I get to comment on stuff and I was bored and didnt wanted to do the work I had in front of me at my home office. It's a great helmet.

And I just figured out how to resize my pics to fit on posts, so I'm getting a kick out of that. The little things, right?

My mouth sometimes gets me in trouble. If I ever cracked the one I have, I'd be looking for another one of these. It saved my face from getting cheese grated this season. My old helmet is open faced and I would have been bloodied.

The foam that contacts your head in the Solomon is pretty soft so 61cm head might not be a problem...no guarantees though. :D
