Ive been thinking of modifing some "modern" bindings, but I would like to buy the Burton Torque or later model 3 strap. You know - Jake Burton Used to ride with a 3-strap torque on his front foot only. Any thoughts on that?

Hi Casey, the subject has come up multiple times. The strongest hard core version of what you seek has been the "Mod" of a Catek "Freepro" binding (http://www.bomberonline.com/VBulletin/showthread.php?t=6346&highlight=catek+strap). I am with you in your line of thinking. WARNING: there are those that feel rather strong about the subject both yeh and neh. Do a search or two on "3 strap". The second photo is a "Concept" photo.
I love the toe side power of the "3 Strap" too!!

see now...the last time someone sold a pair of burtons on here, I thought..man...with the right strap, theres no reason someone couldnt do that themselves!
my vote would be a pair of salomon SPX "shaped" with the shaped highback, and a good strap bolted to it. quite easy, no?

Yep, I aggree. Much lighter too.
The Salomon high back has that piece that comes around toward the nose of the board to support your upper ankle area. If it has a locking flad it would be excellent. The dark grey/black "Torque" is still one of my all time favs. They were softer before and after that model. Starting with the "Flex" and ending with the "Custom". Give or take a model if you counted the "Darth Vader" bindings. There are a few others that are quite rare that were pretty stout also. Kemper made one but it broke frequently. Couple Euro companies made them too. All but forgotten, except by those that KNOW!!

the SPX-shaped is a solid highback as far as I know...wouldnt be too hard to find a pair of spare straps. quite easy really.
seems like itd be a lotta time strappin in and out tho.

One more strap. The old ones=yes. New ones are pretty fast.
I like the mod with the top piece from the Burton Torque like the real photo above. I think that is the best set up I have seen so far. The use of a ratchet strap is brillant. My only concerns are the hook at the end, I question it being able to handle the stress of a 225 pounder leveraging a Tanker 200 on a rough highspeed toeside. Certainly worth a go.
Casey is going to have some reading to do when he returns :biggthump

oh wow..I didnt notice that whoever did those had a ratchet at the back for strap placement adjustability. nice one.

What size do you need. May have one around here, that would be in very good condition. I think it's medium large.

Yeah, size large is perfect. caseybuck@gmail.com
Actually, I had the same thoughts about the salomon spx, I used to have a pair, but locking the highback is vital.
Those cateks are awesome. their not available?

no...the gear vacuum owns them, but theres no reason whatsoever you couldnt do that exact same thing to any pair of bindings
in fact, the strap wouldnt even be necessary, just think it through and there are a variety of ways you could lock the highback...but that idea allows for forward lean adjustment too it looks like...

I have an original 3strap Torque(the black ones) that Burton brought out at firsat with only the Burton center disc....these cannot be converted to a 4hole disc for other boards. The center disc is chamfered differently than most disc configurations....they are in great shape but come with 3hole discs only........$50. plus shipping takes them

caseybuck , these would work great if you can use a 3 hole?
I know what you are talking about. At some point I will get the discs out for a photo comparison. The old style disc is getting hard to find.
Enjoy!!

Hey. We have some three-strap F2s (black w/yellow) here in the shop. These are probably the first 4x4s F2 had produced. They have the cam-arm AND ratchet buckles...and the highback also locks for each binding!
I have no idea why the design was dropped...
Just PM for any interest...
