Thought I'd start a nice thread with members posting photos of their motorcycles. Will post my '01 Husqvarna CR250 eventually. Im just curious with the others' bike, and hopefully, some of 'em do dirt-biking, too.

Lee, Is your Husky a 4 stroke ? I've got a Suzuki RMX 250 done up for woods riding but haven't fired her up in awhile.Been spending alot of time kitesurfing instead in the frigid waters of Cape Cod.The wife wants me to liquidate the moto stuff but, NO WAY ! I'll be back on the trail every sunday next fall. Too many toys, not enuf time, plus my old riding crew has disbanded and they're busy having kids and getting fat. Braaaaap ! 2 strokes !

"holy understeer"
Actually, it handles very well. You can't gas it and try to turn from a dead stop but once you're moving it sticks like glue. I've pushed it as hard as I can on mountain roads, both paved and dirt, and it hasn't surprised me yet. I'd love to test it on a skid pad to see how it compares to modern sports cars.

Just watch for fires! My ex-(former fireman) told me that Fieros were considered fireman-killers. The frame has magnesium in it so it burns and the seat cushions degradate to hydrogen cyanide gas when they burn!!!!!

May 18th, 2005, 03:15 PM
No magnesium in the frame and all foam rubber puts out poisonous gas when it burns. Fieros did have a problem with engine fires when they first came out but it was corrected with a recall. All Pinto's are death traps waiting to explode! Even though there were a couple billion miles put on them before anyone realized they were unsafe. And besides, who's affraid of death by fire when riding a "murdercyle"?

You believe what you will-I know firemen won't try to put out Fiero fires-I had a friend who had hers stolen and was told the same thing my ex- told me....

BTW, firemen love putting out fires...

Speedzilla, nice Motard. Here's a pic of my son on a tarded fiddy from one day at the track last summer. What a squid, eh? No gear, just a skateboard helmet. If his mother saw this, I'd be dead.

http://tinypic.com/5a1cg0

And here's one of my track bike being ridden by a friend (he forgot his track bike keys that day and it took until noon to find someone to drill out the lock - ha!). Some of you might recognize the sticker I put on the mid-fairing after I painted my track plastics (rattle can paint jobs rule!). This is in turn 2 at Buttonwillow.

http://tinypic.com/5a19og

I'll have to look for a picture of my VFR. Somewhere there's a picture of me riding it at Sears Point (aka Infineon) the first time I ever road on a track (last April).

What the ##### is a Husqvarna for !? A street dirt bike?!?!

I don't know all that much about motorcycles, but I know enough to know I'm a huge fan of the Ducati Monster. I'd only ride one if I lived somewhere like California though, which will not happen!

Husqvarna makes all kinds of dirtbikes, but that example is a "supermotard" - basically a dirtbike with street wheels and tires. I've never ridden one, but apparantly they are very fun and inspire very illegal thoughts. There is a whole supermotard racing organization and everything. I got a chance to see one of the pros ride the track at Loudon NH, and seeing someone throw a bike sideways coming into a corner on pavement is jaw-dropping. Mike,

Do you know anything about Penguin Racing? I was thinking of doing a school with them at NHIS.

Jack Michaud
May 23rd, 2005, 05:46 PM
I've done both their racing school and a street-rider day. Unless you want to start an amateur racing hobby/career, definitely do the street-rider day. Simply more track time in a more relaxed environment. I'm probably going to do the one in September, probably with Bob.

T-Bohn
May 24th, 2005, 07:31 AM
I did the penguin school and it is basically a day of showing you the line on the track not a lot of "riding tools" or drills that get worked on. If your looking for skills I would look into a Keith Code school they actually give you drills and skills to work on and really are quite good i am sure there are others that are excellent as well.

I have been doing some days with the team Pormotion group this year and have been enjoying that a lot especially since I just bought an Aprilia RS 250 for my track bike. I have a ducati 851 but that is not nearly as much fun on the track as the rs is. You gotta love a 300lb 2 stroke!!!

When did you live in Vail/Beaver Creek ? If one of the local you met who owned husky cr250 and is deaf, that's the guy who sold me this bike. Modded and a bit scary at times. And I can't see the photo you posted (not the CR250, the one afterwards).

BTW, the mini-moto track in the woods out next to Dillon Cemetary's tight and twisty. ride there often to hone out tree-riding skills. hope it'd pay off in the long run, when i get on the 'tards. Just hate it when its super tight tight (that my handlebar barely brushes thru)

Props to Keith Code school. I own those two books (Twist something), and learn quite a bit from it. Unfortunely I cannot put it in a good use til I purchase either a track bike or a 'tard, preferablly both. From the looks of it, looks like Ill be sticking to a 2-strokes bike, even tho its a dying breed.

I could into the Sept 28th Street Rider Track Day. I've always wanted to do the Penguin School too. Back when I used to sell bikes here in Boston, I was given a Penguin School hat by a buddy at Vanson Leathers. It's been on the list of things to do for a long time. Shifter carts are also on that list and hoping to get on it this summer. http://www.endurancekarting.com/2005/Events/5.Boston.html

You guys need to come out here for track days. We have loads of great tracks (Sears Point, Laguna Seca, Thunderhill, Buttonwillow, Streets of Willow (and the big track), Reno-Fernley, all within a few hours. Plus there's now a place near SF that rents sport bikes (I don't know how they'd feel about taking it to a track day though).

The only hitch is you need to plan ahead. Track days fill up out here - the good ones anyway. The good thing is that from now until October you can be guaranteed it will not rain on your track day (but most tracks get hot - 100 isn't uncommon). Laguna Seca and Sears Point (Infineon) aren't cheap, but the others are usually reasonable. I have a day booked June 4 at Reno-Fernley (my first trip there) and a few days at Thunderhill in July and August. Am I the only Tahoe Area carver who is also a track junkie?

I've beat my last new bike scratch record by almost a year now, and don't wanna push my luck. I may just have to do a Keith Code school day (or 2) or build a dedicated race bike. Wifey may not understand it though, and sparks may follow!

OK, I posted a pic of my bike earlier, but with someone else riding it. Here's a pic of me riding it last Sunday. In fact, I'll show one here and give a list of links to others. Some are kinda cool. I like this one because I took my left hand off the clipon at 75mph in mid-turn to give the peace sign (he didn't take my pic next lap when I used a different finger). I'm too cheap to pay for the pic, that's why it has a copyright watermark on it.

I would love to post my ride, but I can't. It was towed out of my parking lot by the building manager on April 1st for expired tabs! Keep in mind it was legally parked and wasn't even dry or warm enough to ride yet. No one told me. I thought it was stolden. By the time I got notice from the tow company my bill was over $1000 and being that I am a student I didn't have that kind of money. So I left it there.

It was a 1976 Yamaha XS500 modified into a cafe racer. I loved that bike, but now I need to save up for a new one. Maybe next year I'll have the money for a new bike.

It's an '02 and I haven't even had to adjust the valves. Just popped in some Hot Cams this spring, so it's probably due for another valve check soon.

From my experiences, the Yamahas are pretty bulletproof. There was a sweet WR450 supermoto for sale in the Minneapolis area. It was listed on my supermoto forum at http://speedzilla.zeroforum.com
