Hello fellow carvers,

I am new to this site, but am certainly glad I found it. It seems carving has become all but a lost art.

I have a quick question for you if I may:

Does anyone know where you can get asymmetrical boards? The last asymmetrical board I had was a Nidecker Extreme 157. After I snapped it in half, I just couldn't find a new one. It seems due to the lack of volume and the fact that 2 types were required, manufacturers stopped making them. I now ride a Nidecker Extreme 162, but it's not asymmetrical.

Thanks in advance. :)

They're pretty much obsolete.

here's why: http://www.bomberonline.com//articles/asymetric.cfm

although Pureboarding still makes one.

Some guys in Austria are making the #One (http://www.stoked.at/one_snowboards.html) . That's probably one of the few if not the only asym board that is still being made...

Yep, I just saw your article. Good stuff. And thanks for responding. I just always preferred the carve I got on my asymmetrical board for some reason.

Thanks again.

Try ebay. Every now and then I see some asym. board for sale on ebay. and if you got the money, either pureboarding or some other small factories still make asym. boards on order.

Joerg and the other hardcarving guys from Pureboarding staying in Aspen next week. They always carry testboards. I´m not on asyboard. But I am for sure very impressed by there style and ability to charge down any slope regardles of grooming and pitch. So hook up with them. I think they will stay a couple of days into the session.
See you!

I know this is not the classified section, but I've got a Burton PJ6 that's collecting dust in my basement. Make me an offer and it's yours!

Hugh ONE,

I've got a 156cm Santa Cruz Race board for sale. Slightly asymetical: 9 meter on heelside and 10 meter on toeside, built for a goofy foot rider. Three hole pattern (see pics). Volkl wood core, ideal for riders under 160lbs. Asking $150 with shipping included to lower 48 states.

Have you found the search function at the bottom right side of the forum page? Try it.

I'd be real interested. I'd like to see pics if possible. What kind of shape is it in?

Go over to the classifieds forum, scroll down to the bottom and use the "Search this Forum" fuction, type in Santa Cruz Race and hit the GO button. Mine is the 156cm with pictures.

The board is in awesome shape, very well cared for. This board is fast, turns sharp and is in excellent conditon.

Email direct if you want bigger pics sent to your email.

p.s. I'll dig out the board specs this weekend.

Hugh - you really opened up a can of worms on that one. Yea Hugh, as you have noticed , you couldn't have found a better place to find an older alpine board. Many of us have asyms that we don't ride anymore. We all know where you can find asym boards; in our garages and basements. And maybe attics too.
Great question!

Pretty funny. I didn't remember Slopetool taking this one. I do remember the day. Subject came up about a month ago when someone asked about the LIB-TECH "Innercourse" Ed snapped this one at Timberline the year the board came out. I was wearing a North Face RAGE one piece with "Concordia" boots and Burton Vairplate bindings. State of the ART!!

PS. No, I don't think I continued after this turn. It was a slow carve to lying down kind of thing. Or Simply staged, I don't remember. It is blown up and lightened so it is pretty poor. Just thought you might get a kick out of it.

You Carve, You Carve , You Carve was going through our heads!!

Kickin myself in the a$$ for not buying the pristine goofy 171 asym alp that came across ebay last year, I bid on it but someone else wanted it more than my wallet did:(

Yes, but do you have a "Bat Phone" ??

I actually saw a Batman Snowboard years ago. I would have bought it but it would have been hard and costly to get home.

Good one!!

The Bat-Board was symetrical, however it had a tip shaped like the front of the bat mobile.

It was made by Plenk or something like that. It was in NZ. I think I have a photo of it somewhere.

I bet that Donek would make you an asym board as he is doing custom boards and i think he isn't charging too much more to do so.Make fun of asyms if you want but I have ridden them a lot years ago. Had a Kemper apex 160 and a Mistral 159 and a hooger booger 164. Rode them all mountain. Rode the Mistral in bumps at snowmass back in the day. I shattered a rear snowpro vario p3 binding at Powderhorn on a cold Janurary day and wrecked hard. Had to go to the Chiro years later to fix my neck that was locking up. I think my mistral is pictured at the carvers almanac site as a board that was t nutted and was noted as a board that was severly altered so that I could use CAT bindings on it. The hooger and the mistral are hanging up at Bomber so that people can see the old gear.Last season I rode a Virus 186 GS asym that Bola brought up for us to demo.Fun ride but I doubt I would buy it.Current production of course. I also demoed a Hot logical and a Burton pj7. Wanted to buy the Hot at the time but didn't have the money. BSR snowboard shop in Glenwood Springs CO used to sell alpine boards and had boards to demo and the owner was an avid plate rider and his wife rode too. I don't know if they are still doing this?I think Bola still has that Virus in the shop for sale.

The hill Batman rides requires leashes on all alpine equipment. I think it is an insurance thing :)

I can tell you that the Batman snowboard is symmetrical.

Right now not only pureboarding have an asy but Virus, a German boardcompany have some asy prototypes as well. Build in the latest Kessler fashion (ptex topsheet and titanal dampening).
