Welcome to our annual thread!
This is the earliest opening day, ever!

I believe Cousin of Beagle is there today. Roy and me might go tomorrow and on the weekend.

There might be some very good news re. alpine – stay tuned…

We wish you a lot of days like this:

Cousin of Beagle
November 8th, 2011, 03:32 PM
Rock star parking at 9:30. First chair just after 10:00.

Upper Maelle Ricker to mid and lower JJ was the only run open.

Snow is mostly from guns. Off trail, the natural snow is sparse.

Spring conditions. Good coverage. No rocks at all on-piste. Flat light. Slightly drizzly.

The hill is looking GOOD... let's keep our fingers crossed that the temperatures stay cold for the rest of the week.

Only one run was open, so meat-gates were aplenty.

Think: the Whistler ski-out at the end of the day.

went up today to see what's what. pretty dismal conditions really. a single narrow run, huge line & minimal coverage (some nice brown snow). an exercise in dodging rocks & meat pylons. and they shut down the hill 2:30ish after a close lightning strike. not sure opening the hill with such minimal coverage was a great idea; more of a marketing ploy than anything methinks. anyways, looks like more (natural) snow in the forecast for next week, so hopefully things will improve for net w/e. i'd personally stay away until more runs are opened.

Paid ~4$ for lift ticket with CASI card. Great deal!

Condition is pretty good for carving, except too much traffic and big line-up. Hopefully, more run will be opened and still discount lift ticket. :1luvu:

I wish they rebuilt the superpipe! Unfortunatelly it's just an old photo...

Kaz, I think that I've seen you... Luka and me were inside the lodge when someone walked past, outside in RED hardboots.
He's too slow to start running after the people, especially when wearing ski boots...

Pot on the slopes and pretty much everywhere - welcome to Vancouver. Didn't you smell two guys in the car, when we skated on Saturday? Sad.

Roy, I think Kaz does think BEFORE weekend...
Yeah, Thursday is the plan!

Road were a bit slippery. There was only one car rolled over in the ditch on the Cypress Bowl Road. Rock star parking at 8:20.

9:00 Eagle Chair opened. Available runs were JJ, Maelle Ricker, Panorama, and Sidewinder. No crowds.

Mostly packed powder corduroy groomers. Along the side of JJ, there was 4" to 12" of freshies, which lasted several runs. The snow had slight moisture content, but it was dry enough. No stickiness. Light was slightly flat, increasing in contrast throughout the morning.

I made the CBC evening news.

When I left at noon, the queue was approximately 5 minutes.

Weapon of the day: Dynastar 3800 - 163 cm.

Do most of you carvers have full seasons passes or do any of you only do the one day a week pass. I think I am going to have to invest in something.

crucible
November 19th, 2011, 05:27 PM
The majority of the regular YVR carving crew have full season passes- Boris (aka BlueB) of course works there, so his pass is part of his job.

Maya, Brenda and I made it up there by 1230- spent an hour on the North side running down Collins, then went over to the other side and spent the rest of the afternoon zipping down Panorama and Jasey Jay. LOTS of people, made slaloming through the meat gates a real challenge, but it felt great to be on the board again. There's still lots of small stones embedded in the runs, so keep on bringing up your rock boards- I had 5-6 shallow nicks in my base by the end of the day.

Didn't see any carvers, but I did see a guy rip by me on a 178cm monoski, which was pretty cool.

went up sunday morning. did a warmup lap on colins then headed to eagle. amazing the difference a week makes. runs were full width now, and there were no rocks. guns were blasting nonstop and conditions were decent for carving. quiet for the first couple hours (no wait in the singles line), then started to get backed up a bit near noon - my cue to leave. was on the 156 kessler (w/ expectations of many bodies and narrow runs) - fun turny little thing. great workout. blowing off the cobwebs; sure am out of shape though. legs were fried.

9:00 to 2:00

Overcast. Light was flat, but corduroy, pits, and bumps made the snow easy to read.

There was about 12" of fresh wet snow at the sides of Jasey-Jay. Otherwise it was corded groomers.

In the morning, the snow was mostly moisture-laden and compacted. Softened to semi-mush in the afternoon.

Eagle side grooming was better than Collins on the Lions side.

At 2:00, the fog and rain arrived, so it was time to leave.

Good coverage. Saw a couple of rocks at the entrance to Collins.

Weapon of the day: Dynastar 3800 - 163 cm with Burton P1 bindings.

went up for the first night of the season. pretty quiet up there. snow was hardening up as temps dropped. humpty to horizon now open & general coverage is looking good - ie, people were hitting rainbow & bowen during the day (was closed when i was there). things are shaping up.

heading to whistler tonight for a couple days...

I was expecting a bit of snow over groomed and brought Highlander and Proto... However it turned out it's a real blizzard up there... Ended up riding the Proto all day.
It's snowing even below the viewpoint - nice and cold, windy though. Visibility was medium, no crowd. By 1:30 when I left, it was feeling as a real pow day and the tracks were filling quicker then we could make them. Looking good, Rainbow and Bowen filling in, Humpty great, part of the Cat Track/Glades open, some ice still exposed on steeper part of Horizon... Eagle mountain was way too windy, so I did only 2 runs down JJA.

I ran into Kaz and we carried on together. His Ogasaka SL performed really good in the miged conditions! Very nice modern shape, rounded tail, metal... Kaz rides with really clean race inspired technique - right on buddy!

Tomorrow should be sunny, should be hero after all this snow! I need to see if I can finish my stuff quickly in the morning...

Holy Crap am I out of shape! I mean I own a gym for God sake so you would think that doing a few runs on a snowboard work be a cup of tea but I was quickly reminded that when you can't remember how to let the board do the work for you, your legs start burning very quickly.

Run 1: was a bit of a write off as I had the bindings set up completely wrong so all I succeeded in doing was tiring my self out and make some sketchy turns. This kind of sucked because the snow seemed like it was awesome to really cave some good turns.

Run 2: got the bindings a little better but still not quite right and actually made some turns that looked like I knew what I was doing on the flat stuff but went to complete hell as soon as it got steep.

Run 3 I think my brain was starting to remember what my body was supposed to do but my body was refusing to comply.

Run 4 Brain and body started to work together a little bit and linked turns that would probably resemble a solid beginner that just learned to carve.

Run 5 Brain and body were agreeing what to do but for some reason my legs no longer responded. At this point I thought I should pack it in for the day but decided to give it one more run to see if my legs would recover.

Run 6 Ran into BlueB and Kaz where both carving some very nice turns proving my thoughts on run 1 that the snow seemed like it was awesome to really cave some good turns. I on the other hand Tried my best but just couldn't hold an edge to save my life...

Run 7 Ya I know I said that I was done at run 5 but now I had people to ride with. This proved to be a bad idea as I had to sit down 4 times on the way down as my leg was cramping and when I stopped at the bottom I almost fell over because my quads were done!

Nice to meet you guys It can only get better from here.

i did a nightowl run last night (8-10). snow was dumping nicely, and there was 6"+ fresh over a hard base. not many bodies up there, so no lines and lots of relatively unmolested snow to play with.

had the prior atv out for the 1st proper runs, and despite some opinions to the contrary, it turned out to be a super fun board for these conditions. nice forgiving nose, and tight-ish scr made for a playful poppy ride. had a great couple hours.

Hero snow, blah, blah, blah.

It was Free Burger Day. A celebration of the new month.

Here is my review:

Burger #1. The patty was soft and moist. Dipped in orange special sauce until the burger was dripping. The bun was quite flavourful. No condiments were needed. The overall effect was one of satisfaction, because the burger was free.

Burger #2. Not quite as much orange special sauce. No condiments. I think the burger was a bit more satisfying, although less squishy due to the lack of drippiness. A sugary Sprite washed it all down. Surprisingly, the drink tasted sweeter than usual.

yeah I know. Something is screwed up. I think the angle indicators are flipped or something.

ok I figured it out.

On Monday, I adjusted the angles, mixing up the "regular" and "goofy" settings. This morning, it felt really weird. Looking down at my feet, it looked weird too. I even asked someone to look at it, but he didn't catch it either. I'm glad it wasn't my imagination.

Kessler 180:
Decided 180 to come out first as traffic to none .
I thought I have to get the feel for the first few runs on a strange board, na..ah:cool:, deck as if part of my quiver for long time. After the first run I have to tell my self to ease off to finish my warm-up laps but as soon as I pass upper JJA I just can't hold the temp and let it go... deck just following the way I want to carve, EC or Extreme C. Deck has alot of edge hold and very forgiving. Seems deck has more solid feeling compare other metal boards I've ridden - just like my PRIOR WCRM 177 and COILER PR179 two character combine became KESSLER 180.
Compare to KST185 is much easier to handle and to controle speed, is less work out.

Kessler 170:
I switch to this board after 16 laps on 180 and as traffic start to build up.
This board is a fun board and does everything 180 does but being 10cm shorter to 180; less edge-less hold - you have to stand right in centre.
Fun fun board.

Left at 12.30PM

I got up to the Cypress by 1300 - but alas, everyone had gone and all I could see were the faint traces of your trenches....

Spent 2 hours touring the entire mountain to get a good recon on snow coveage, Raven runs, Sky Chair runs, JJA, Collins, even Humpty Dumpty and Slash...

Midway in the mid afternoon turned out to be the best- no line ups for the very slow chair, plus it gave me much needed recovery time between runs.

Raven side still has a lot of surface rocks on the slopes, same with Humpty Dumpty.

did a late rip last night. solid snow w/ a few ice patches & fog. had the 156sl kessler that turned out to be great in these kind of conditions. amazing how this thing can grip when you crank it over and let it do it's thing. been making improvements in my problematic heelside on steeper slopes (driving the rear knee / angulating more / reaching for the front boot) and linked carved turns are coming together. neat carving clean c's when everyone else on the hill is sliding around. so much more civilized really. again, i'm amazed this isn't catching on. too much fun.

I really enjoyed Scooby's new Kessler 180. After a while I figured out what to do to turn it into an awsone EC board. Yet, I still think it's a tad too big turning/fast for our local mountains. Looking forward to test ride the 170.

I'm slow when I'm by myself. I'm always thinking what I should do to improve my snowboarding skill. So I stop so often in the middle of the run and correct my bad habit.

My task is how to finish toe-side-turn quickly and how to begin heel-side-turn quickly and stable.
Catch the snow with front edge and start to weight snowboard early in heel-side-turn.

10:30. Rock star parking was full, so parked at the main lot. Walked to the Raven entrance, and rode down. Up the Raven Ridge chair, down Panorama, straight to the lodge for demo day.

Snow ranged from double-M (man-made) over hardpack, cruddy, icy, to cushy softpack. Overall the snow was ok for demoing.

Wanted to try rockered soft boards.

Burton Custom Restricted 158. Hybrid rocker with some camber. Did not want to hold an edge too well. Skidded turns were easy to do. Did not like this board.

Never Summer Premier F1 159. Hybrid rocker with some camber. This thing was fantastic. When doing skidded turns, you could feel the rocker. Bumpy groomers were not a problem because you never caught the wrong edge due to the rocker. When railed on edge, it felt like a conventional cambered board. It carved like a champ. Quite damp for a soft-boot board. The shovel and waist width were very close to my Dynastar 3800 - 163 cm. It would probably work ok as a pow board. They're also available in longer lengths.

Crowd wasn't too bad for Sunday. Most people were away Xmas shopping. Lift lines at Raven Ridge and Sky chairs were zero. Other chairs were 3 or 4 minutes.

High overcast, flat light, no crowd...
Hard packed but grippy snow on JJA, very hard packed on M. Ricker.

I tested Scoob's Kesler 170 - way more Cypress fiendly then 180. Softish, tuns much tighter, indespite of long SC. Excellent for EC too. It skidds the turns like a sub-160 board, yet holds the edge like a 175+ board... A bit on soft side.

When it was time for monkey ride, later, I got onto F2 ElDiablo. Stiffer and slightly less aggile then Proto, yet carves a bit better. Still jumps nicely. No wild photos from today...

my 174 kessler seems similar; long tip & tail decamber (at least compared to my priors) makes it surprisingly easy to unlock & slide despite it edge length, but grips like crazy once you crank it over on it's edge. surprisingly forgiving. perhaps that's a necessary trait when your pining a rutted race course at 10/10ths.

Ruwi showed up with Silber and struggled too much - had to borrow Roy's WCRM wide, while Roy graciously switched to Kesslert 180. Pierre was doing just fine on (previously mine) Virus Vampire - amazing how that board can handle variety of conditions.
I tested the BlueB plate on F2 ElDiablo - first time on short and wide board. I only could get the pivots on the closest configurtation. It worked very well. Later I switched to Tanker and had lots of fun. Funny, the big light board had more maneuvrabillity but less edge hold then the short plate-weigted F2...

Good News: 30+ centimeters of new snow
Bad News. : Rain all the way to the tops of the mountain, zero visibility, and crowds like there was a Boxing Day Sale in the parking lots.

Got up to Cypress at 0900- could not see through the rain and was only able to go down the tree runs like Unrun, Humpty Dumpty, and Glades off of Sky Chair at anything resembling carving speed.

Spent half of the morning in the lift line ups, or picking my way carefully through the splayed out bodies of skiers and snowboarders who were sprawled everywhere. It was mildly entertaining to see people hit moguls and dips that they could not see at high speed and yard sale all over the mountain.

After two goggle changes and three pairs of glove changes, I went home at 1230. I saw Yoshi and Rebeka on softboot gear at 1030 in the lift line. They were enjoying themselves, but I bet they went home at lunch too.

Calling Dave*, calling Dave*, for demonstration how it's done on hard boots! ;)
I'm no tree champ, but can do it. Here's what I found as important:
- Noodly board, 22 to 25 wide, 160 to 170 long, generous nose of gentle rise/decamber, taper doesn't hurt either
- Floppiest bindings you can find. Proflex/Carve RS work great, Race plates, Snowpro, F2...
- BTSed boots or at least softish boots

Scoob and me will be there 10am to 1:30pm.

This new "green" park sucks. Totally insane to extand it that wide...
"Red" park will not be much of a problem for now. However, we are in for trouble once the lower park by the Lodge is up and running, as everyone would be bombning from "red" park to "lodge" park, right across a very busy area that's a merger of 4 runs :(

Sunny day, small crowd, lots of alpine riders (6)! Crappy snow though - refrozen hardpack with some loose granullar, ice chunks, etc...
Park extension really presents a hazard on the merger above :( However, the features in the park are a lot better. There are 2 2 big jumps, back to back, now. 1st one doesn't look too big from the chair, but throws increadibly high - kicker is much higher then the landing. 2nd one is even bigger, big height and huge length. I ate it twice on the landing of that one...

It started snowing already at my house, so it should be good at Cypress. More on the otlook for next week! We needed it...

gorgeous day today. packed pow hero groom - the first i've ridden this year. i forgot how good fresh cord was. riding w/ the kid, but he's at a reasonable enough ability now that i tried bringing a board instead of skis. worked well enough; could get in a bit of carving here & there which made me happy. the skis really don't hold any interest. brought the sl kessler - silly fun, even on mellow slopes. love that thing. morning wasn't too bad, but the crowds in the afternoon were insane. every parking lot was full & cars were parked on the road past the xc turnoff. never seen it that busy. people are hungry for snow so it seems.

Went up today with Peter the skier; 1st run around 10.30AM, snow on JJA start to get choppy. Snow was kind a slow...Mixed crust/crud with fresh snow and some pebble size ice on certain location.
1st time tried Rainbow - need one more dump to cover some srubs. Ice start showing past noon. Hope will get better with a few more dumps.

Toys: Kes 170, WCRM 177, WCRM 173, Proto 167

No crowds, yet we still had some close calls - amazing.
Visibility ranged from variable to unlimited. Light snow started in the early afternoon.
Conditions were a bit mixed... Pretty cold and slow snow.
JJA mix of soft and hard pack, soe ice showing through later. Hero snow on Panorama, but super slow.
Midway was ungroomed, we didn't venture there.
Rainbow is now covered, it was a bit soft and semi "buldozed". Scoobycharged and sliced it like a no man's business. I was worried for my floppy WCRM and opted to freeride it.
Humpty was nice, medium-soft pack, pretty smooth.
Horizon nice in the upper range, some ice in the steep mid range, nice but a bit bumpy in the lower mid.

Yestaerday's forecast for today, of 15cm snow, doesn't look likely to materialise. Should be snowing of and on in the hills, for few more days, though.

We are likely to ride again on Thursday.

+1. Thursday Jan 19: The best days of this week. Kaz & me was bombing JJA, Rainbow and last Midway. The first time I heard Kaz don't wanna leave the mountain  Too bad BB can't join due last minute E call.
Rainbow has better coverage but not enough, some places are booby traps when you trench it hard. Horizon you still have to watch for one or two sharpy floating "golf ball" rocks. Met Tony "Cousin..." and Bob "LeSnowman".

Toys for the day: Kaz - Ogazaka+VP16(7?), Scooby - SGFR185, KSTBT180, Lesnowman - KSTBT159(167?), test drive latest Burton (no idea which model)
Kaz is always consistent with his clean turn :biggthump.
This season looks like the SG will play lot more then my other decks, the 20 waist seems does the trick from EC to Ex Carv. Due too perfect carve cond; I had to switch back to SG on Midway and it was a good call. I was be able to push away the board to the fall line and lean to the surface (not pat the dog style:rolleyes:) without loosing the board edge grip both toe and heel side over and over again. Not smooth yet but it was a good feeling and snow is firm enough to hold even I move around to adjust body position and the main thing snow was fast.

Friday Jan 20. Kaz & me was so excited to have another good day but it turn out to be a disaster. We need wipers on our goggles that day and infra red somekind to see thru. Stop after 2 runs and head for Lodge and left CM after an hour.

Saturday Jan 21. Met Rod "the Edgy" and later BB + Luka on skiies.
Same foggy condition and I had the WCRM173W on duty and it was a good pick for that day as I choose Raven chair on early runs. Was alot of 5" freshies with firm wet snow underneath. I had a blast on Crazy Raven (#1) & Cayote (#2) . We both bombing these two runs and when both got choppy we move to Three Bears with another untouch run that connected back to Raven chair. It's a tricky run where you have to pick up speed on some spots specially the one that pass thru the parking lot..:eplus2: I had to bail out at 1PM ish as my liners start compress...

Got up to the hill for 9:00 - parking lot was surprisingly busy... snowing heavily with lots of wind- hard enough to slow you down to a stop on Collins or Panorama if you were being hit by the headwind. Rocked the Prior ATV this morning, but should have used softer boots to make the most of the powder conditions.

Snowed about 6cm by the time that I split at noon- runs were patchy because of the high winds, you could be carving on solid spring corduroy and then hit a patch of windblown powder- went over the handlebars a few times on Jasey Jay because of that.

Let's hope that it keeps dumping over the next 3 days- we sure could use it!

Fresh powder everywhere- light fluffy, almost Okanogan like in its density- temperatures were still cold enough in the Cypress paeking lot by 10PM that it was a loooooooong daisy chain of so-sp drivers down the hill.

Tomorrow is gonna be epic- I'm taking the morning off and heading up with my Winterstick Swallowtail and my 168 Prior ATV.

Sunny. Around -2°C or -3°C.

Stayed on the Raven Chair.

JJA and Crazy Raven were corduroy. Didn't ride JJA. Only rode the top of Crazy Raven before entering Coyote 7.

Meteor, First Sun, and Coyote 7 had around 12" to 18" fresh over slight bumpiness. Snow was not dry, but not super wet either. It was ok.

The best run was the Alex Bilodeau run. 18" fresh. Not extremely smooth, but good enough for medium-speed fall-line turning. Faceshots. No bottoming-out. Rode it several times. My favourite for today.

Weapon of the day: Dynastar 3800 - 163 cm.

Snapped the back binding in half.

Scoob, Kaz and me were mostly shredding JJA and Rainbow. Short venture to "buldozed" First Sun and sketchy groom on Coyote. Hard work on the First Sun...

Scooby skied (babysitted) with luka, while I gave a 3 hour lesson to Patric. It went great, I might show some vids later, after the quick edit.

JJA had visibillity changing all the time, groomers left some monster "death cookies", ahm, I should say "death mellons". Kaz ws trying to chop them down prior to our arrival, but didn't finish the job ;)
Rainbow was frozen until late in the morning, but turned out pretty good, smoother then JJA. Midway was pretty good but surprisingly soft in certain spots.
I fiddled a lot with the binding positions on new to me Coiler Chubby. I thing that I now have sweet spots for hard and soft snow...

Gary is starting to get hold of ski-carving and performed really well when he switched to the board later. He remembered everything from last year and did thin lines on Easy Rider. We had some very excited comments/yells from young kids on the chair, as well as from few skiers.

I had a super scary moment on JJA: Big airborn transition from toe to heel carve, set in hard, bum, front binding released. Somhow I managed to slide and lift the board of the snow by rear foot. Woooo-hoooo! You are a beast, Geo!
I'll be away next Thursday, but I'll try to come challenge you the last 2 races of the month.

Were you the only snowboarder on plates?

But of course!

It was really funny rolling up to the starting gates to do the practice runs before the timing units were set- one of the other guys racing on a freeride snowboard took one look at my board and set up and muttered, "Oh,oh. This dude looks like he's done this before...".

The Cypress liftie that knows me who works evenings on the Midway chair said, "George, if you don't kill everyone racing tonight on that set up of yours, then you need to find another sport".

no pressure....

I ran the Thursday night beer league race last night- won handily and kicked some ass- I won a snowboard helmet.

Beat the second place guy by 9 seconds on my Oxygen 164 Proton, the course was too tight to break out the Coiler 179PRT or the 186PR. I might run next week's races on a mid 160's BX board, either a Prior ATV or a Winterstick Cirque- you guys should come out to represent...

Had some good conversations and all mountain cruiser runs with the other snowboarders who raced that night- they definitely saw they difference in boards that were built for speed.

I got invited to run the PGS course that the Nancy Green Ski Camp sets up on the weekend- should be good for a laugh.

Hi Geo, can you tell me how many gate they have setup? My athletes went there last month, they told me there were only dozen of gates.

crucible
March 9th, 2012, 09:50 PM
Your guys are correct- there are only 12 gates or so, and they are spaced closer than what would exist on an officially sanctioned race course.

I suspect that it's designed to keep the speeds from getting too out of control with casual racers- they don't want anyone getting too fast and hurting themselves. The course length is also half of what a proper PGS course would be- 300-400 meters max.

You had to run these gates at a modest speed and make up for the lack of aggression on the course with a tighter line to get a decent time.

Afternoon.

There were no open spaces at the lodge parking at noon! Surprising! Parked at the entrance to the Raven Ridge chair.

Around -4°, and cloudy. Wind was around 25 km/ hr. Flattish light. Fog at first, clearing later.

A couple of inches of dry fresh over softpacked crud.

Weapon of the day: Dynastar 3800 - 163 cm.

Softpacked corduroy. Snow had moisture in it. Sunny.

The hill is in great shape. Tons of snow with a base of over 5 metres.

Oh man, the one race night I that I miss and there's a major drama...

Sorry I wasn't able to race this week guys, I had a recurring arthritic problem in my foot flare up again- there are parts in my feet and hands that have been broken multiple times and time is catching up with them.

I have just been able to squeeze my left foot back into my boots today, but have to wait another 2-3 days before I can buckle them up without pain.

Sorry to hear about the break Boris, heal up quickly, or at least, get some of those good horse pill painkillers from the wife...

Yeah, you missed out on going against 4 other hardbooters, one being a racer girl trained by Pan. Kaz posted very hot times too. Softbooters were slow, as you already know from your last race.
At ski division a former racer showed up, I wracked myself trying to catch his time.

I wish I could have made it out to the hill on a Thursday night to play in the gates but unfortunatly I always work Thursdays. Next time I guess. I realy miss running gates.

6" to 8" fresh. Snow was wet but fast enough. Foggy. Flat light.

Did Moons several times. It was completely filled-in, resulting in a completely smooth surface. The snow was firm and wetpacked. It felt like fresh over groomed.

Weapon of the day: Dynastar 3800 - 163 cm.

Too bad I hit a tree and had to call it a day.

Other riders reported smooth conditions on Top Gun and the Bilodeau mogul run.

If I show up on hard boots, I have to be on race board. My freeride binding screws are rusted, can't get them out.....

Condition was great this morning, then became wet snow in the afternoon. Hopefully, it will snow next few days!!!

sunday was a bonus pow day - 5-6" on the groomers, but the steep stuff & glades had closer to a foot of fresh (accumulation from the previous couple days). snow was surprisingly light & i was getting face shots all over the place. hit the steeps on raven & lions first, then more fresh tracks on sky when it opened a couple hours later. best pow day i've had on the hill this year - in april! no lines to speak of either. good times.

April 4: Snow was OK until 10:00ish. But snowcat operators are not good at grooming, some gaps on JJ all the way to the bottom. After 10:00 am became too warm from sun shine and runs got too soft (almost slushy). There was a little bit of hard base on Collins, I stayed there about 1 hour. But I had to leave around 1:00 pm because became too soft.

April 5: JJ was made by little snow chunks from first track. It was like riding on crackers. Hard surface but too brittle to carve. Snow refused to hold my edges. I tried lions chair side too, but same condition. So I left at 10:30.

I saw an unmarked car on Cypress Bowl Rd on my way home two days in a row. It was a black dodge charger. I hard they are switching over their police car from ford crown to dodge charger. I saw a guy caught. And today, there was SUV unmarked car on uphill side too.
Watch your speed.

My 11 year old niece, Andrea, visiting from Europe, riding with the "boys". She's only been on soft boots few times, now converting to alpine and doing it with style!

Snow condition was soft firm in the morning but still hold, some runs are firmer then other such as Panorama but otherwise snow was still holding till 12PM. Rain start around noon & since temperature didn't get warmer and rain compacted abit - snow stay rideable till almost 2PM.
Karen aka Kabi start with O2-168 then change to 164. Shorter O2 was a good move as board is easier to handle and less work out. Kaz in the beginning was kind of reluctant to go riding in softer condition and he was making a solid trench all day trailing behind.
Kessler Black Top work out like a charm and more all day in all conditions, its perform as well as my 4WD
