For those of you who don't know, there is a small mountain outside of Glenwood Springs called Sunlight Mountain (www.sunlightmtn.com). Rumor has it, there is some killer carving there, and on a Tuesday we'd have the mountain to ourselves.

They're also a Client of mine, so I might be able to call in a favor or two and get some extra grooming. :o

Regardless, I'd like to organize an off-day Tuesday trip to Sunlight to mix it up a little. Jim and I are getting season passes thanks to some trade, so we'll have some time to scope it out. The group tickets are ridiculously cheap, $25!

I need a minimum to get the group discount, so I wanted to gauge interest. We'll work on logistic details after I get a feel for the interest. If you're worried about transportation, we'll figure that part out for you too.

Give me a yay, nay, or maybe and we'll go from there :biggthump

Sounds sweet! I've wondered about that area... as I've driven by on my way to A$pen. If it seems worthwhile, I'm in! :-)

So does this mean you'll be gracing us with your presence this year?

Yep, I'm in for this year. Ness isn't coming unfortunately, even though I tried to pursuade her. So I'm flying solo in the Bomber House.

Hey Dan,
Flyin solo as well, look forward to seeing you! Ness needn't worry, da bomber house has been rather sedate last few years, that is except for the garage ....

I'm probably in. What's the character of the resort? Wide runs? Narrow*? Steep? Mellow? Groomed? Ungroomed? Etc.
*Do narrow runs even exist in Colorado? LOL!

I'd love to grab a ride there and back from/to Aspen, but the bus is always a reliable backup plan.

We need to check out Sunlight after all this snow we have gotten. Prior to yesterday, I was not optimistic it would be in good carving condition, but we'llo see how ti goes with all this new snow.

Michelle, if it's on, I'll have a car and happy to drive. Just not sure how big it is and how much gear / how many people it will fit.

I haven't been to Sunlight since the early 70s. My folks used to take us to Glenwood Springs for Spring Break and we'd ski at Sunlight.

Back then it was a small, deserted ski area with 2 chair lifts (I think).

I read a review in Outside Magazine recently that praised it. I seem to recall that the runs would be good for carving (blue groomers) but I don't know how good the grooming will be.

Last time I was at Glenwood Hot Springs,(30 years ago), it was pretty cool. Anybody been there lately? I was thinking ride Sunlight, (if it's good) for a couple hours + or-, a bite to eat, couple hours terrorizing the hot baths, mid afternoon nap and flow like hot butter into the bomber house party.
What do you think?

Ron - decent food and beer at the Glenwood Canyon Brewery across the river from the Hot Springs Pool http://glenwoodcanyon.com/awards.htm The "Vapor Cave Ale" is one of my favorites and is an IPA.

If Jim & Angie's deal doesn't materialize, you can also get a BOGO for Sunlight through http://www.skifreedeals.com/ski-resorts-colorado.html

Ron, remind me to tell you a story about Glenwood Hot Springs.

Pat, I agree! We eat there often when we are in Glenwood, and the beer is excellent!

So, Angie and I have ridden Sunlight, and it is going to be awesome. They will try to groom whatever we want, so it will be a good time! We need twenty people to group rate of around $30 a ticket (we think it's $25, but we would rather not get your hopes up with a super low number) so we would like to start a count.

Also, it's a bit out of the way. It is an hour and fifteen minutes from Aspen, albeit there is a fun back road covered with snow that can cut about fifteen minutes off.

Logistics-wise, we need a lot of people with cars. It isn't on any public transportation network, and we would be happy to have a car train on the way there. Cell phones also don't work up there. So we are going to start a count of who is in, and how much car space you have available. If we can get to twenty people, let's do this! Unless it is a powder day, in which case we will reevaluate. There is also a cool hot spring outside of Carbondale that doesn't see the crowds Glenwood does, and is only $12!

Sunlight trip is off - there wasn't enough interest to make it worth it. Maybe next year! See you on the hill here in Aspen (somewhere) tomorrow!!
