I know its only mid november, but everyone else in the west seems to be rockin already!

Im gonna have to have a talk with someone about this:)

It will come. All it takes is one big storm.

D-Sub
November 15th, 2004, 04:52 PM
one? to build a rideable base? hmmmm.

still cant help but be pissed that when I finally get off my neurotic agoraphobic ass and decide to move somewhere the damn mountain has the latest start in the nation (I know I know, not true:))

grrrr:)

One big storm of 2 feet will give you a rideable base at Bachelor.

Dude, like Mike says, be patient. They almost always open by Thanksgiving. Just turn off the frickin computer and go climb some stairs so you won't be whining when you get to Bend!!
(sorry, tough love kinda advice that I need to take myself)
It is a great town, a bit more laid back than what you are probably used to , however there are plenty of Californian's there too. (I know you are not a native Cali).
Great area , awesome carving. You will love it, don't sweat the small stuff. If you are going to be unemployed, it is a great place to be!!) Enjoy!! Bryan

We can swap new sticks!!!

OK. I'll stop now:)

I've visited Bend several times. Even if there's little snow, there is still plenty of things to do in and around Bend--kayak, mountain bike, play golf, hike or rock climb Smith Rocks, and drink lots and lots of good beer and strong coffee!!! If you're dying for snow you can always drive to Mt. Hood.

It's a great town with a cool vibe. Have fun and enjoy it!!

I lived in bend for 3 seasons, and have been away for years now getting my s*$! together so I could move back. It's not an easy town to make a living, but I've finally found my niche! Anyway, I'll be up there 12/12-12/19, in a nice large rental, riding (hopefully) everyday and whoopin' it up at night. If anyone would like to meet up for a few runs, or an evening of pool/beer, shoot me an email!

D-sub, don't beleive everything you read. Brighton does have 52" or had, they are open, but it is still early season conditions. I just got back from Co. very little terrain open there as well. Remember the mt. snow reports are very one sided.

But still we've been riding and you haven't. Hay-Hay.

Sorry, I had to.

Benz: where did you go? St-Sauveur, St-Bruno? I wasn't even aware there was any snow here! But I'm not much of a fan of going snowboarding when there is no snow in the woods and in the trees (and the parking lot, and so on...).

Was it nice at least? I must of felt good!

Just think D-Sub - you'll be riding at Bachelor through Memorial Day. And if you stay in Bend longer, Timberline is only 2.5 hours away. Yes, right now it seems like everyone west of the Mississippi has more snow than OR does, but over a whole 6 month season, we've got a good thing going here.

Have you tried the runs off sunrise Express yet? Plenty of wide gentle terrain over there. Also there's wide moderate terrain off of Skyliner Express.

D-Sub

Mike...

I did ride skyliner, and it still felt narrow to me. The snow was pretty choppy so that could have a lot to do with it, combined with the first day syndrome, etc.

I might just be used to Mammoth where the runs are like freeways in most areas.

or, I might just be a sissy and need to grow some you know whats:)

D-sub, it could be because we have been riding for weeks and you are just getting on snow.....

All joking aside, I'm glad to hear your finally able to get some turns in.

D-Sub~

When the big storm finally hits Bachelor, do rainbow chair->summit riding cows face to the backcountry all day. My favorite terrain there. Rainbow provides some great carving runs, and a little more time to rest the early season muscles on the slow lift. I'll be there in 10 days! I'll email ya before I get there. We're staying in the southeast part of town by the costco. Ah, bachelor powder by day, deschutes brew by night.

D-sub,

I feel the same way. I grew up skiing at Bachelor, then didn't get up there for 10 years or so. When I came back on a carving board, I found everything a little too tight/steep for my liking, except a few runs that were too flat or had irritating double fall lines (like coffee run, I think). Funny, 'cause I remember thinking that Ed's Garden was the funnest run ever when I was a 12-year old on skis.

Better snow later in the season should help, and I'm sure that all these guys' suggestions on carve-friendly runs will be helpful too. Let us know how you're doing in a couple of weeks and what you've enjoyed riding out there.

I can see how those runs seem narrow on your Proton (14 m radius).

Just wait till Northwest opens and you can take your powder board back there. F'ing awesome.

D-Sub
December 2nd, 2004, 08:31 PM
yeah...14m radius...

Im really thinkin that my plans for a coiler might change a little...grab me an FC184 which is a little tighter...

anyway...I have no doubts that the freeriding will be badass. Its just funny...I wanted to do a lot of carving this year. Like I said...I'll have to adapt!

At least they are makin snow at Mt Bachelor. Up around Mt Hood we are still waiting and praying that this weekends storm will open up Meadows. Although the main run down pine martin is kind of steep its an awesome feeling when you can carve the whole thing at full speed without stopping! I am going down to bend on Feb 18-19-20 for an education meeting held every night at the deschutes brewery at 7pm. (sponsered by pfizer=open bar)
I hope to see you then so we can make some turns. Pic is of top of pine martin ....

What's wrong with skinny boards in the PNW? It gets quite icy here whenit hasn't snowed for a week and temp has been hovering around freezing!!!

the "skinny" board I have or will have wont be my only...when it dumps Ill be in soft boots ridin Outback Im sure. The terrain under the summit chair looks WEIRD!

its funny, but...that pic looks SO different than how the hill looks right now. A little bit of coverage sure makes a huge difference!

yup, just got back. CHOP CITY! I was surprised/bummed to see how fast it got tracked out!

but theres a LOT of fckin snow up there and a fair amount in town.

I have now discovered that both Mt Bachelor and the town of Bend pretty much suck at clearing snow so far. My street looks like a war zone. Havent seen a plow yet!

It is still snowing lightly. I had my girl with me and she was getting tossed around in chop and got worn out so we came home. Time to run errands and pick up those TF liners for the people who wanted them!

but yes, mike, youre right. It snowed. a heck of a lot for an early season storm. sorry to hear about MHM:(

Normally doesn't get tracked that quick...as soon as outback/northwest/summit open, it's freshies for days if you know where to find 'em.
