Getting a lot of e-mails so thought I would put up a quick pic of the Boiler Plates. This batch was pressed and machine last week and should be shipping this coming week :biggthump
Next on my list to make is a nice vacuum work table. Cutting and sanding these these carbon fiber beauties makes you itch all night!
Next round coming soon......

Nekdut,
Technically this is the second batch as the first one went out back in the fall for all the race teams. After this batch there is another lined up to be made. The process of making these is pretty darn time consuming. Going with a pre-preg product takes time. Not to mention a pile of time in the press being heated and squished to very high temps and pressure.
But the final product does come out nice. This is a very light but strong plate. I didn't think it was possible but that table actually got lighter with those plate on it! Go figure :D

Wonder if you could modify a used Air Hockey table...
Reverse the air flow, supercharge the motor.. hook up a hoover.
If it doesn't make for a cleaner shop surface, I bet it would make a wicked hovercraft!

Cheap downdraft table:
Make/buy a table. Cut large hole in the middle to fit whatever suction system you have. Suspend pegboard over table top with solid perimeter. More space above lower table surface means more even suction across table top, though this design will always bias suction towards area above the big hole unless you get fancy. Brace underside of pegboard so it's not too 'saggy', a bunch of wooden dowels stood on end and glued between holes works for light-ish loads and doesn't affect airflow too much. Overloading the table punches the dowels through the pegboard, but it's cheap to fix.
Not sure how much dust you generate and if this would have a hope of keeping up, our system was used to evacuate smoke from melting plastic as an operator used a hot knife on various plastics. Obviously as table size increases this gets less efficient. We would cover the unused area with plastic sheet to increase flow near the work zone.

Can't wait to ride mine! Fin, what carrier will you be using to send them out. UPS, USPS, FedEx ect?
Also would you be able to attach a tracking number to the shipment if I needed?
Good things take time to create so I'm in no rush.

Snowrider,
Contact Michelle for a status on your Plate order. She can give you the scoop!
Corey, excllent idea for a table. Right now I just wait for a nice day and do it outside. But need to change that for the next batch.

I talked with Michelle today and she said my plate would probably ship sometime by the end of Feb.
I placed the order on 12/14/10 order number 010997.
Saw Jack on his when I was @ Sugarloaf this weekend and anticipation is killing me as he said great things about it. I should have asked her when on the phone what the hold up was as I thought to be riding with it soon since she posted that any orders placed in Dec. would be ready my the end of Jan. Don't mean to be the sqeaking wheel; just thought I would have it by now.:barf:
I'll just have to pound more beer to isolate myself from those bumps and chatter.:biggthump
Dude why did you post this??? This is something you take up with Michelle directly, no need to drag your frustrations on to a public forum.
The SES is right around the corner, which is a higher priority than your order. Fin works 7 days a week as it is, he literally can't put in any more hours than he already does. His life right now is fully consumed by making Boiler plates.

Snowrider and others:
Very sorry for the delay on the next batch of Boiler Plates. Bottom line is we did not predict this level of interest and we have had to double what we originally planned to make this season. That normally would not be a big deal but purchasing several rolls of high-grade pre-preg carbon fiber is tough to do on short notice with these suppliers. They have to make it pretty much as per order as it has a limited shelf life. Shoot, as it is we have to store it in a freezer just to keep it going when we get it!
Our order is due in any day now and then we are back at it. However, the SES throws another wrench in the works. But I'll be pressing right up to the SES and start up the day we get back. Order will be shipped in the order they where received.
We REALLY appreciate your patience and are working non-stop to get these out.

Your right Geoff. Didn't intend for it to sound like that. Was only curious about the delay. I didn't figure the SES into it before I posted. Again my bad for asking in such a way.
Also sorry to Fin as well for being a pest about it. All in all we all love your gear and sometimes get greedy over it. Didn't mean to be an ass.

Thanks for the info. I hope to get my UPM version before the 5th of March 2011, but as I see I think I have to wait to ride it next season since orders are taking big hits here. Pitty though.

Snowrider: no apology needed. It is my job to get this hardware made and to you. And contrary to what Geoff said, your order IS the most important thing to us. Just the option of postponing the SES has it's difficulties as well ;)
Hans: the UPM hardware itself will be ready 2nd week of Feb. So if that is before the plates themselves are ready we could actually ship you the hardware ahead of time so you could at least use it with your current plate. Contact us directly and we can work it out.

Does that mean UPM hardware for demo @ SES?

Ordered a 4mm plate w/ UPM hardware last Wednesday morning, shipped same day, tonite it's mounted on my NSR+. I guess Fin is caught up w/ the Boilerplate orders :biggthump
Thankfully I have 12 weeks of season left to get to know it
I predict more carving and less softbooting this spring, if my test runs on Mathilda at SES were any indication.
