If you're like me, you're starting to yearn for that perfect carve again. Well, it looks like it will be a while before the first snow flies, but there is something you can do today - mark your calendar for Friday, January 28, 2010 and book the day off. The pleasure of your company is requested for SOS 2011.
This is an open invitation to a one day event at the Osler Bluff Ski Club in Collingwood to join the hard-booting core of the Southern Ontario carving community. Its a great chance to meet or get back together with dedicated alpine riders on great terrain with excellent grooming. We've had great sessions for the last six years with many repeat participants each year. If you know other alpine riders that might be interested in the event, please bring this to their attention, no matter what their ability. The event grows in numbers each year and so does the love.
Our friends from YYZ Canuck, Apex Sports, and Coiler Composites will be on hand to give you a chance to kick the tires of this year's latest alpine gear trends.
If you would like to attend, drop me an e-mail through my profile so that I can get you on the list. I will need your name and e-mail address so that I can keep you informed as we get closer to the event. While I am happy to open this event to as many as possible, this is an event for the hard-boot community and I would prefer to keep spots open to alpine riders. However, I do understand family situations and I can make exceptions to help make it possible for you to attend.

If you are out there lingering on the sidelines undecided, now is the time to get in touch and let me know if you are coming.
Only 2 more weeks to the event and interest has been brisk this year. The list at the moment is up to almost 60 riders.
Still not convinced? You're not easy to impress I see. Well, we have a special guest this year. Canadian National Team rider Michael Lambert  will be at the event courtesy of Apex Sport.
This is going to be legendary.

Tried the hardboots out for the first time ever on Sunday at MSLM. Bumped into a few other hardbooters at the hill who gave this n00b some pretty useful tips and informed me of this event.
I suck, don't know a soul, and have a post count of 1, but I'd like to show up if the invite is still on!

... but I can still squeeze in one or two more. Absolute closure is noon Wednesday. After this, I have to turn the attendee list over to the coordinator so that the ticket ladies at the club will know you're coming.
DMC - welcome to BOL. You would be welcome and hopefully you will learn a lot. Certainly you will have plenty of inspiration. I can put you on the list but I need you to e-mail me through my profile (you should be able to locate this if you explore the site a bit) and give me an e-mail address and your real name for the guest list.

I shot you an e-mail through the forum. I'd like to come on Friday. I have never ridden with another hardbooter before so this should be fun. :)

Thank you so much for organizing this. I had so much fun last year and can't wait to be riding with everyone again. It was totally worth the drive to Acton ... wait; that is a commercial - I meant it is totally worth the drive from Ottawa.
Let me know if you manage to get the clinic organized. I am interested (and probably willing to pay!)

Can anybody pick me up from downtown Toronto? (Bloor & Spadina). I'm a student and thus without my own car. I would be more than happy to share any transport costs!

Although I've been riding for years, I only have seen a few fellow hardbooters in my life. This event is going to be sooo coool :1luvu:

This is great. It looks like there will be lots of other "beginners". Last year I felt like I was the only one that sucked. Add me to the list of not getting a chance to ride with other hardbooters (other than last year's event). I'm really looking forward to riding with everyone. I'm hoping that a clinic of some sort, no matter how formal or informal, is a go. See you all Friday :)

In case anyone missed it, Olympian and World Cup Champ Michael Lambert will be joining us. Too bad we don't have gates set up - I'd show him a thing or two.
BTW, if you want to ride a 174 Kessler or 185 Kessler race stock board with Apex Race Plate, send me an email to reserve. You just have to supply bindings.

I have offered Uku a ride up in the morning but I am not coming back on Friday evening so he would need a ride home. He needs to get back down to Spadina and Bloor but I think he would settle for a subway station if you are able to help.

Here's a link to the current RADAR that covers the area... HERE (http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/radar/index_e.html?id=WKR).
You can customize the map to show 3 hours of data and then hit the 'play' button to see how the precipitation is progressing.

What an awesome job in getting it together and ensuring the weather was perfect for us. I had a phenomenal time and met some great carvers and was able to admire quite a few trenches. And great riders giving out valuable tips!
Possibly my best day out ever! Thanks Chris

Chris,
Thanks for organizing a great day. I appreciate and am thankful for all of the work that you put into this.
Unfortunately my day ended early. I was really trying to improve my riding today. Just when I was starting to make some progress and start to really feel myself putting energy into the board and tightening up my turns, I ended up getting locked into a heel side turn and flying into the trees.
I feel pretty lucky to have walked way with a torn nostril (from impact) and some bruised ribs. So, if anyone saw the casualty today.. it was me, and I'm fine.
Hopefully next year will go better and I'll be there long enough to pick up some tips. Especially some tips on what might cause a person to get locked into a turn and how to avoid it next time :)
Thanks again Chris, hope to see you next year,
Geoff

Thanks also Chris, Great day. Keopele if that was you being attended to by ski patrol on the left side(looking down) of whatever run it was don't worry the red you left behind didn't slow the pace. Everyone kept ripping it up. As far as what happened ? The flat light and big ruts everyone was leaving in the worst of places probably had something to do with the visit to the trees. It might have been the trenches that Kessler with the Apex plate left on the hill while it was carving from tree line to tree line. Credit; Arcrider and Apex Insider. Thanks for a great day ! Big thanks to Chris, yyzcanuck, apex and coiler. That was the greatest day of riding I've had in a long time. I got to ride with, watch and learn from many great riders.
Special thanks to The Peaks crew for making me feel at home. :)

Thanks Chris! An excellent day all around, good friends, good food, good (well mostly) conditions, what else could anyone hope for?
And the members did not seem too put out by our presence on the hill, except for those two ladies in snowshoes that were trying to figure out why we all had weird snowboards..........
An excellent day.

What a great day.
I rode non-stop from the time I arrived at 09:00 until my legs could take no more, retiring to the car around 14:30. Had to skip the après because I had to rush back to Toronto.
It was my second day ever on plates, and was it ever fun watching, talking to, and learning from you all.
Thanks!

Hi guys!
I managed to loose a pair of glasses in the changing area. I left them either in the washroom or by the lockers. If anybody knows anything about them, I'd be most happy. They were dark-framed reading glasses with a bit of green on them.
:smashfrea
The event itself exceeded all my expectations! It was such a pleasure to watch carvers filling up the slopes, meeting all great people, and last but not least -- getting my broken Intec replaced in 30 minutes! Would have not happened anywhere else!:biggthump

Thanks for the great day Chris and everyone else!
In one of the weirder moments in life, at about 10:30, as I got to the top of the lift I saw a snowboarder at the top, standing oddly sideways and thought that it looked very strange. Took a second to realize that I was thinking a snowboarder on a freestyle/ freeride setup looked out of place. Shows how quickly perceptions can change!
Each run, and each lift ride was a learning experience. Going up each time I'd see another amazing rider doing their thing and think to myself "How can I look that smooth on the next run?" Then get the chance to try to make it happen. Would be awesome if I could do that every day! Only problem is how deep the ruts were getting

Thank you Chris for once again putting it all together for us. I'm sure it's not easy but it seems you've mastered it.
Thank you Henry (Mr. Apex) for co-sponsoring the Apres food with us. The event grew quickly in numbers over last season!
Maybe next season we can do a 2 day event to include one of the other local clubs?
Thank you all from Andrea & Dave at www.yyzcanuck.com.

It was great to see old friends and make new ones. Alpine snowboarding is indeed thriving in Southern Ontario. Thanks Chris for making it possible. A big thank you to Michael Lambert for taking time out of his busy schedule to ride with us. And thanks for loaning me the pants. Not often I get to rock the lime green.

OK thanks for the clarification. After riding with a few members at Sugarloaf last week who were on Bomber plates I am intrigued and interested in riding one. Thought this might be an opportunity to try the Apex plate.
