Just curious. How many snowboards do you currently own? Yes, you can count them all.

technically 5, but Im going to try to get it down to 2

one carver, one all around soft boot setup (something around a 170-175. Im big enough for this to be an all around size)

Twenty Seven.

Talk about an idiot. Hence the reason for the soon to be snowboard clearance. Seems like if there was one that looked like it might work, I'd buy it with the thought that someone else might be able to use it, plus the fact that I could buy pro-form. They just seemed to start stacking up.

This is the year to pare that down to a manageable number. I do board in Seattle area, and Duluth Mn. area, and I don't like to do the same thing all the time. (what a rationalization)

haha wow, great poll
As for me, there is a purpose for all of them (3)
One for the weekdays (Coiler 186)
One for smaller mountains/weekends (Donek 171)
and one for teaching/powder days/days with friends who go everywhere (Salomon 159 with softies soon to be replaced by Donek Incline 168 with the same bindings and boots as for carving)

So i've got a softy set up, a broken alpine board, and the one i just replaced it with, and if we're counting all of our boards i guess i should mention the fact that i've got about 10 pairs of skis, so you can add 20 to that 3 i mentioned. Guess i could explain the skis, the first 2 pair i can think of are for racing, both are volkl p40's, then i've got some old volants that i lend out to people i hate hahaha. then i still have the first pair of skis i ever skied on, and the last 6 pair were the type that you find at a ski swap for $5 that i bought and use for jumping since they seem to break so easily.

Hmm, if I was to buy a dedicated powder board, to be worn with either hard or soft boots (but maybe a slight preference for hard), that wouldn't be a total waste of time on the groomers (although that's not really a big issue), which of these two boards should I buy?

Usable:
Coiler 174 AM custom (daily driver)
CustomCraft 170 (rock board)

Unusable, future bench material:
Sims Search 171 (battered)
Nitro Diablo 178 (broken)
CustomCraft 170 (broken, replaced under warranty)

Coming real soon:
Coiler 174 AM (much narrower than the last one)
Happy Monkey 174.5 AM (in between the two Coilers)

Maybe next year:
Something 185ish

After next year's board arrives, I'll have enough. I think.

Freestyle: Neversummer Evo 155
Freeride: Donek Incline 155
Powder: Burton Fish 156MD
Alpine: Madd 170

I'm planning on eventually consolidating the freestyle and freeride boards into one. I originally (two years ago) only had a Salomon Definition, which was a great all-mountain freeride... but really tough in the park and in powder by the trees. I got the Neversummer for the park... and eventually sold the Definition to get the Incline... turns out neither of those two boards were that good in the powder, so I picked up a Fish on Ebay for 80% off. At the same time I got a Burton Ultraprime last season, which I sold to get a Madd 170 this season.

Semi-usable:

'99 Prior 4WD (delammed), replacement coming: AM172

I voted 4 as I don't actually have the AM in my grubby paws yet. If I rode in the east or had the chance for more days I'd pick up a pure freecarver or race board.

Ok, I've got 8 boards floating around the house, out of which 5 get ridden regularly.

3 of them belong in a Museum: Early 90's Craig Kelly "Mystery Air", mid 90's M5, and a late 90's Hauser Freeride. OK, there's a late 90's Hooger Tuned that belongs in a Museum also, but I still ride it.

My wife's little Airwalk Freeride board.

My Brother-in-law's old Nitro freestyle board that he doesn't ride anymore, so I threw an old pair of plates on it and use if for teaching now and then.

Rossi Levitation for teaching in softies.

Rossi WC 190 for chasing rhinos....

Well, the Fish is fun in trees. I used it with hard boots and Raichle Xbones which seemed a good fit. It washes out late in a turn on groomers. The 4807 I haven't ridden much yet, but I like it better overall. Did you look Bertin's new Malolo. Less taper, and better on hardpack they say. Of course it will be many more $$$. hey i already did 360 km/h beat that!

Then you must be a very experienced skydiver, doing it either on an absolute "divin" or "standin" position from a considerable altitude, as the terminal velocity for a falling human being with arms and legs outstretched is about 190 km per hour ( assuming 100kg weight and a g of 9.8 m/s/s)

Yea, I've read that while experienced skydivers can get in the 160-180 mph range (255-285 kpm) it takes years of practice just to break 200 mph (320 kpm) and you have to jump from a special airplane to do it.

I guess boogieman must be a pro skydiver who specializes in high altitude low open jump (HALO) jumps or something.

head down all the way, anyway thats what my pro track told me and if you dont beleve me come to belgium and try to catch up with me! and besides theres a lot more to it then just your weight for example how tall you are what kind of suit you wear the porosity of your suit (with a wing suit your at 80km/h aprox) and how flat you fall since falling flat is pretty difficult but standing on your head and going straight down is a lot more difficult and yes i did quite a fuw jumps yes

and stop reading about it just do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys:
I think I may have most of you beat- I haven't counted since the end of last season, but since this sept. I've added about 9 more to my shrine..... which brings me to about 46-48 boards in all.
Many of mine are specialty, old school, promotional or special edition boards that don't have a lot of use. As far as JUST carving boards, I have about 10-12 out of the whole pack of em.

And guess what-

the most I've paid for a board or package was $140.

Rock on! (shred on)

I've got 4 right now:

Rossi 167 CM VAS race board, red white & blue (primary ride)

Rossi 168 CM Throttle board (Just got it last week, was going to be a backup, but since my buddy is converting from the soft side, I'm going to hook him up for what I paid for it and sell it to him, and [shameless plug]I'm selling off his shorter carving boards that are unsuitable for him in the Bomber classifieds to help finance it.)

Burton Supermodel 173 (Supermodels have been my PRIMARY boards for almost 10 years now, WITH plates, but since I'm riding back east now, I am keeping this board on hand specifically for out west powder riding)

Burton 180 CM, right now I'm havign a brain cramp remembering if its a FP or UP. I intend on selling very soon, not riding.

I like my Rossi Race VAS 167 for serious carving, and my Supermodel for powder and the like, but anything else is always open game for selling. I'm always looking locally to pick up a board or two and pass them along after tuning them up for minimal profit. When I flip enough of them, I'll buy a Donek and sell my Rossi 167.

As much as I'd like to have 50, I'm trying to get the quiver down to 2 boards. It's bad enough I have 4 bikes and 3 surfboards.

Has anyone dove with a carving board? Could be wild because of the lenght of the board. As for the speed of 200mph, when I was punching holes in the sky years ago, we were using O2 and at high altitude like boogieman said head to earth but none of us were looking at speedometers. Higher altitude has less o2 and hence less drag= faster desent, but who cares it's all in the doing.

Here's the guy with only one board. ;)

Nitro Range Ex 156 all-mountain I got off eBay for $50. I've just rented softies over the years and decided to buy one for this season. This fall I discovered alpine (particularly EC) hence the alpine choice. I figured a cheap board and good boots and bindings would be better than a more expensive board and cheap boot and bindings.

Currently have a set of F2 Race Titaniums and AF700 Indys with I’ll be spring modding EC style. Can't wait to have enough pennies saved for a Swoard. :D

BadBrad
March 3rd, 2008, 10:20 AM
Yes, old thread. I had 2 boards for a very long time, but just acquired two more this year, so now I have 4:

'97 Burton Alp 156 (old faithful all-mountain board for years, always enjoyed this board, but new boards are relegating it to the rock board. I'd sell it, but I don't think it's worth much, so it's worth keeping for bad conditions.)

'99 UltraPrime 156 (the old dedicated carving board, until the new acquisitions this season. Might try to sell it.)

'08 Prior 4WD 164 (the new all-mountain board)

'02/03 Madd 158 (the new dedicated carving board)

No soft setups. I rented a soft setup last year and didn't enjoy it as much as riding in hard boots.

I have a friend in Oregon who has something like 40 boards, it's amazing. You go in his house and they're all stacked along the wall about four or five boards thick.

So that's why it's so hard to find gear, it's being stockpiled!!!

3 Carvers, 7 All mountains, 1 "Mini" and 2 that are now "retired".

I ride them all, and saddly one of the 2 that are retired was added to taht list about a weekago when I split the sidewall for nearly 1/2 the length raining out a hard turn, and over rode the boards flex apparently.

Meh, **** happens.

Arbor A-frame 162 New and not ridden yet. (have had for 4 years as backup)

S-series 162 that is now retired and going to a buddy of mine next winter.

Academy Merit 159 (fun all around board that can actually carve with softies!)

O-sin 3800 163 (All mnt/powder and carver on softies. Will try with plates soon)

9? Nidecker Proto 156 with the carbon butterflies and dampning pad(fun little carving deck)

Generics Peak 60 AM/FC alpine board that is fun in all conditions

9? Rossi Throttle 156 SL board. Haven't ridden it yet. Picked it up with Burton rat traps at a swap meet. Will try it soon.

On the wish list is a Dupraz D1 5' 5", Volkl Selecta 168, and Coiler AM

Hope to get either the Dupraz or Volkl next winter as a replacement for the 3800 when it's shot. Will work on carving with current alpine boards and get the Coiler in a few years. Hope to narrow my quiver down to 3 really good boards to cover all conditions. Maybe keep a good free ride board as a rock/early/late season board.

More boards in the family: Wife's Arbor Push 152 and son has some sort of Burton 121. My wife hates trying new things and gets mad at me every time I buy her a new stick:smashfrea

During the winter - my family has to put up with 3-5 boards in our spare bathroom at any given time, with the other 8 down in storage.

When I go on business trips during the winter, I usually roll with a minimum of 2 boards, a freeride board in the 160-164cm range and an alpine board of the same length.

A powder board comes along as a back-up if the weather report looks promising.

Catek OS2's base plates are on all my EDC boards.

Dude, that is the most incredible powder board collection I have ever heard of; right on!
Cool thread; gorgeous collection photos from years past.

Theres 11 boards kicking around my living room right now:
I have 3 165cm Winterstick Swallowtails on the wall, two green boards (one is "mint", never mounted, never ridden, with a Swallowtail case), and a maroon/green board. I wish I still had my other old Swallowtails, Roundtails, Burton woody, and the Fanatic UltraRat 159cm that pioneered some Wasatch steeps back in the day (early 90s), under the boots of Danny Caruso and myself.

Other retired boards:
Duret 165cm World Cup Asym, with antique two piece Snow Pro plates on it; what a pain in the a$?! to mount those!
Hobie Double Edge 162- this has 4 edges - ever see one? Rode great, but impossible to really tune.

Current all mountain boards:
Liquid 162cm Adventure: an $90 special from a Gart SNIAGRAB, wood core Austrian board with a couple hundred days on it now; this has been a workhorse.
Volkl 164cm Sensor Aircore: My Hawaii-bound buddy Mike just gave me this board; loving it in the Pow Mow sidecountry today Mike! Heal that knee!
Joyride 165cm: couldn't pass up a bargain rock board last month; like the name; too bad they went out of business.

Carving boards:
Nidecker Extreme Race GS 170 cm: loving this board at Snowbasin recently. Nidecker Extreme GS 184cm: this board has some top sheet and insert damage; may be destined for the wall.
Foss (made by Prior) ~185 cm: this is a beautiful black and red board; will have to get some photos.
Cheers!

Hey Canuck - which Mistral is it? I won't pimp you for it I promise. If it is the Ecstasy asym regular ( gold and black top sheet) it would make me happy just to know that a mint board is out there. I went through three of these, with one which can be ridden but not mounted up with binders and definitely not mint. Put one down in Powder Rock Glade at CB - took 4 inches out of the heel edge on the reef that starts about 20 feet in. Another one down in Frenchman's trees in SV. Did an ebrake stop with board out in front to stop from hittin a tree. Had that new reverse camber technology after that. My first favorite board. :1luvu:

Great thread revival. :biggthump

Its a Mistral Sonic with "Fully Integrated Rattle Eliminator" even says it right on the topsheet. The fools who have paid a cajillion dollars for their metal boards should try this technology!!! Who's laughing now!! Ha ha!:ices_ange
