View Full Version : Horrible eBay experience with fellow hardbooter...

I listed a brand new SIMS carve board on eBay this week. A buyer used buy-it-now to purchase the board and I immediatley sent the eBay invoice. The buyer replied with the following message:
will send shipping info in the morning. Off to bed. Thanks
The next morning I get this message:
Payment will be sent out today in the amount of $125.00 USPS money order. Please mail the board by USPS insured. I have shipped over 300 boards, from your area, $25 will cover insurance and shipping for that size board. Thanks!
All is good, right? Well, you'd think so.
Tonight (2.5 days after auction ended), I check My eBay to find negative feedback from the buyer! His feedback is the following:called 4x, emailed 3x left messages, no contact/no payment, poor communication
No payment? He is the buyer! He's supposed to make payment!
Poor communication? What was left to communicate?
The buyer did leave 2 messages on my cell phone, which I did not receive until after I read the negative feedback. (I don't live with my cell phone on my hip).
I call the guy up and he starts laying into me like I'm sort of criminal. I tried to explain my situation, apologized, and even offered a positive solution to this whole situation.
He said:
Don't you know who I am? I'm CMC (Whatever that means), I can get whatever @$#%'n board I want! Keep your @#%$'n board!
Then he hung up.
What a jackhole!
The thing that really gets under my skin, is that this guy was an eBay newbie, and had zero feedback. Yet, he is still able to deface my profile of several years.

You can request to have the feedback removed. I'm pretty sure you have a week to respond per eBay guidelines.

Already done. Thanks T.
I've never known anyone to be so rude, especially someone that rides. I've never come across any hardbooters that were @$$holes, but I guess they are out there too.

Isn't that the point of a cellphone? :D How long did it take for you to reply to his messages, over 24 hours? The rest of the stuff he did was just silly... is this CMC?

For some people, maybe. I use my phone to make calls, I rarely receive them. So, if someone leaves me a voice mail, I might not get it for a few days. I use the number on my eBay profile, so that wackos like this don't call my home and harass my family. I use my phone about 5-10 minutes a month - no joke.
As I said, I exchanged e-mails with this guy within an hour or two of the transaction ending. He left negative feedback 2 1/2 days later. According to eBay guidelines, I have up to 3 days to make any communication. I responded to him within hours.
After many hundred postive eBay transactions, this was the first time I've ever had someone call me and demand that I call them back. Everything is always done via e-mail.

He was... but I believe he was banned from the forum (I'm assuming for insensitive remarks and ranting, which he was known for in the limited time I've been on BOL). After a little bit of sleuthing I did manage to find a few posts of his via searching. His posts are listed as a "guest" now since his account was revoked. I noticed that that the ECES was sponsors by a Wine club of Saratoga Springs... I'm pretty sure it was him. Someone else who has been here longer probably can say more about it than me, but I definitely recall him having a high opinion of himself (I'm told he is a great carver... but carries that sense of entitlement into all areas of life).

Yep, that's gotta be him. I've never had the displeasure of dealing with someone so conceited and rude. At least I know I just didn't catch him on a bad day, that is just the way he is. Oh well.

Wow, this guy is unreal. I wish I could post the e-mails that I'm getting from this guy, but it's probably illegal in many states to repeat what he is saying.
Do yourselves a favor and avoid any dealings with Curt Debartolo. He's a slimy one.

sorry you had to deal with such an *******. IF it is the same guy from here, he is clearly a big headed jackass, snowboarding skills be damned!
guy talks more **** than my ass after eating bad shellfish!
as for the ebay and feedback thing, well...you wont be able to get it removed most likely, but...I wouldnt sweat it. If you have enough positive, people will look at that and say "look at this nut that left this negative!"
getting feedback removed is damn near impossible.

The funny thing is, I was actually going to ship the board today even before receiving his payment because I'm going out of town for a few days. A bit risky I know, but until today I had never come across a hardbooter that I couldn't trust.
How would I have all of his shipping info if we hadn't had any communication like he claims? It must have been some sort of ESP type thing I guess.
Oh well, not a big deal. I know that jackholes like this guy can only get away with this crap for so long before someone decides to thump him. If he continues to treat people this way, he'll get his.
Thanks for the info on this fool, and thanks for letting me vent.
Anyone want to buy a Sims 148? It's all packed up and ready to go! :D

Speedzilla, congratulations, welcome to the club, you've been CMC'd.
He indeed was a member here until this summer when he was banned indefinitely for behavior consistent with your ebay experience - both in the forum and in private emails to the administrator and moderators of the forum.
He's burned many bridges in the community and industry of alpine snowboarders, and as far as I can tell has completely worn out his welcome. Vent away, people need to know exactly what kind of cretin he really is.
I'm not familiar with the process of having feedback removed from ebay, but if they require references you'll find plenty here.

Remember to use the "Reply to feedback received" feature , set up a webpage with the history of the transaction, emails
and comment and place the link in the reply to the feedback...
80 Characters is not enough to explain what happened.

Man, this industry isn't big enough to be burning bridges.
Cretin, that's a good word to describe him, but a bit too kind.
I'm not too worried about my eBay feedback, I've got 318 positive (and 5 negative). Most of the negative feedback was in retaliation for me posting feedback to a non paying bidder.
Thanks Jack!

Wassup Kent!
I bought the Sims with the idea of getting the wifey on a board, but she hasn't had much interest, or time.
I've been lightening up the quiver in order to invest in some newer hardware for the upcoming season.

About two years ago I bought a pair of TD1's off of CMC and they never showed up. Curt stated that he had mailed them and the TD's must have gotten lost in the mail. I ended up splitting the loss with him ($100/$100 each). I got a money order for $45.00 and a set of used ABEC 11 Stingers from him.
Is my experience the only one like this? My intent is not to besmirch this guy, only to state the facts, and to wonder if everything was on the 'up and up'.

I'm always willing to give someone the benefit of the doubt....except now when it comes to this guy. It sounds like you got hosed. It should be the shipper's responsibility to make sure the item gets to you.
If you ordered something from Amazon but never received it, would you expect them to give you half of your money back or all of it?
Just water under the bridge at this point, but it's good to tell people about dealing with The Carve Master, and his shady practices.

Yes, I agree with you D-Sub. I didn't get insurance and I figured it was my loss. I thought it was a nice gesture on CMC's part to split the loss. Are you saying CMC should have bought the insurance? If he didn't, he'd have to eat all the costs?
What I posted my experience here on BOL for is to determine if my experience with Curt was an isolated occurence or a trend. I had little reason to suspect anything other than good intentions until SZ brought his experience up.

well...if you ship UPS or FedEx the first $100 is covered, free.
as for who should have bought insurance...thats something for both shipper and recipient to decide
Ive had people not want insurance, but then want their money back when something went wrong. doesnt work that way, and I certainly wouldnt even split the loss with them!
but when I pack and ship stuff, I do it according to the guidelines the carrier lays out, and then I insure for the proper amount so if something does happen all bases are covered.
Ive never had anything get completely lost tho. in all honesty I dont buy it. sounds like CMC made $50 off ya:)

oh, and..for the record...Im sure C is reading this...
waiting two ******* day's is NOT grounds for the type of behavior you clearly displayed
its amazing how far people go, and then claim to have been "doing what was right"
the customary time before feedback is left is TEN days, unless of course things happen before that, but to leave negative for a seller after two?
lame. period.

I agree. Honestly, what percentage of the people making transactions check their computers every day, or even every other day? Not many. I've had time where I had an item up for auction, I moved and forgot about it, and didn't get back to the guy until the next week. Was he pissed and did he leave a bad feedback? The answer to both questions is no, as it should be.

The reference to the autograph was made because after our phone call where he pulled out the "don't you know who I am.." line, I had sarcastically asked for The Carve Master's autograph.
Well, it seems that Curt has had a change of heart and fulfilled my request for an autograph. It is a fine piece, written on a photo of the carve master in action. It will soon be framed and mounted above the fireplace in my home. My wife will love it.

Honestly, from your first post I couldn't tell if:
1: you were for real
2: trying to trash on cmc by pretending to be somebody new
3: making a joke by doing #2 if you are a well known member. e.g. if Bob Jenney posted that (what is [CMC]? Is he a member here?), it would be pretty funny.
I'm not usually suspicious that way, but like Mellow Yellow, I find it hard to imagine not knowing who cmc is... :P
In any case, that email totally seals the deal :) You just can't make crap like that up, can you? Ha ha ha... oh, the memories... how they make my spleen hurt...

CMC is the best, just ask him, he'll tell ya. This guy has been running his pie hole on this site forever and now he has been banned for conduct unbecoming of a decent human being. It must be killing him to be able to read all of this wonderful press about himself and not be able to reply. I have not been active enough on this forum to know who cmc is/was. Even if I did, it wouldn't have changed anything.
No, I couldn't have made this stuff up. From what I've heard, this is standard operating procedure for cmc, I'm not the first person to get a love note that is so creative.
I asked Curt if he failed 6th grade geography, because I'm not a west coast f*ggot. I guess I'm a mid-coast f*ggot, or maybe I'm a no-coast f*ggot. Who knows? Maybe Curt can enlighten me.
Anyways.....this has been fun.
I think it's fair to say we can all move on now and leave this behind us. After all I did get an autographed picture of the carve master out of the deal. He even wrote it exactly like I asked!
"To Dave, f**k you, you west coast f*ggot. Eat sh*t and die.

Your wish is my command……your request is an honorable one Speedzilla.
In all seriousness we are going to close this thread as it has run its course and I believe all the players have gotten what they needed to say of their big fat hairy chests. This thread continuing would only serve to make the entire Carving Community look bad and some of the members look worse (if that is possible).
Also, in all fairness, Curt Debartolo is no longer a welcome member of this community (for reasons brought upon by himself) so he is not able to "explain" himself here. Flaming in this manner is a bit tacky in my opinion, and should be kept to a minimum. However, at the same time, I also understand that if a member of this community is having business issues with a fellow hardbooter that does not go well, it is their duty to inform us of this person and to possibly stay clear of them. So I think we all know who to stay clear of now, don't we?
OK, enough of this jibber jabber, Tahoe is already getting snow and we are supposed to see some tonight in the Rockies. So hold tight fellow trenchers, here comes the snow, baby! :D
