When I was at Big for a week, I noticed the ratio of riders on plates was greater than at other resorts I've been to. I saw riders on plates off-piste on freeride gear, and other riders on carving decks on the groom.
At the time, there was also an alpine snowboard team training.
I met this one guy (probably in his 60's) who was absolutely ripping on an Identity snowboard. Heh, he even jumped into the training course (with permission) and showed the young'ns how it's done. :D

I think the alpine community is much bigger than we assume it to be

Well, Lets see, Take the number of resorts times, Oh, say 5 guys and see what we come up with. Last year at Aspen, one of the regulars said that he sees 2 to 5 guys in a week. This is a 100 day rider talking. Mammoth, which I did 93 days 2 seasons ago was less than that. 2 to 3 more on the weekend but not much more than that. I know someone has the numbers and can do the math. Let us know. Tim

In the province of Québec, it seems like carving never died. Every single time I went snowboarding this year, I saw at least one carver, even in the smallest mountain.
Ste-Anne: too much to count, easily 10 like CarvCanada said
Olympia (small family mountain in the Laurentians): 3-4
Glen (very small unknown mountain in Eastern Townships): 2, including one with Cateks
Stoneham: only one, but it was a spring skiing day
Le Relais (small mountain near Québec city): there's two groups of 4-5 there plus some others
I wonder why there's no QES (Quebec Expression Session).

P.S.: I know you're going to say "Then organize one!", but I'm not sure I would be able to.

Orford (eastern townships): 5-10
Tremblant: too many to count. Well over 10. That's where the alpine coach for the Quebec team works and where almost all the alpine racers from Quebec train. Last season I attended some regular race trainning sessions that the Quebec alpine coach was running at a small resort (Mont Habitant) once a week. There were about 20 people there and I was the only guy not from Tremblant.
