Hmmm, some interesting early returns.

I posted this poll based on another BOL contributor's comment that a number of previously desirable glass boards have been sitting in the classified section for some time. That may be the economy, the change in technology, or something else--but I had noticed it too.

It made me wonder if we will eventually see a slew of glass boards go up for sale, prices drop, etc. as more people switch to metal? Also, when might the first generation of metals start showing up for sale, second hand, in significant numbers? Big changes are going on! Or are they?

Anyway, our market is so small and unique, it just sounded like a fun exercise. Thanks for joining in!

Bruce is cooking up a 168 VSR FC for me and it will take over carving duties from my Madd 170. I haven't decided what to do with the Madd yet since it's still in awesome condition. It's certainly above rock board status and can be put to better use by someone else and I can use the extra money too. Decisions, decisions :freak3:

I've got a Coiler Monster coming my way in a few weeks and a Madd 170 metal (though the Madd is a very different construction). My other boards are fiberglass. I'll ride them until they're not fun or I find metal replacements.

I've sold off a couple of boards this season, not because they're glass but because I didn't like them as much as other boards in the quiver.

2 metal boards here coilers 180 RC metal and AM 172. Those are my 2 Goto boards.

I also have my Madd 170 that I love, that board always makes me smile. I don't use it much (4-5 days a year) but when I take it out it's like a special occasion.

As far as I'm concerned the first generation of metal ended with the introduction of KST boards. The initial metal boards seemed to be normal designs sprued up with titanal and carbon, and it's now in a stage where the boards stopped breaking and the camber/rocker/shape development is at the forefront. Just food for thought..

Don't have enough gold to buy metal yet but carbon will keep me happy till then.

Metal is a good ingredient, one of many factors that contribute.
Plates, Snow Stix, Splits, Hangli, Shapes, Core Profiles. Vist, etc, etc.
The magic comes in the combination and matching of the conditions and rider.

Price of boards? I think it has more to do with the Economy.

Keep the 200-300$ high end boards coming. (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330373104548&ssPageName=ADME:L:COSI:US:1123) Ideal way to provide for new riders and old alike. More important? Get out and ride every chance you get.

Nothing like miles and vertical feet to reach the FineLineClub.

I was picking up my AM stick at the tuner's and he commented on how easy it was to hold the metal boards to the grinder. They just suck up all the vibrations and make it easy.

Makes sense.

Okay, someone take a look at that Madd. Does the name say what I think it does? Who would do that to such a nice piece of equipment??? I sure hope it says "Cornbaler"?

Nice font (and surf break) detective work Boris! As was said, a strategically placed sticker can work wonders. Congrats to whoever won the auction.

99% sure Shred named that board. And if that is true, then I am 100% sure it says "The Cornholer".

Ok, so I am the proud new owner of this Madd 170 via big canuck. I have to know what the original owner was thinking when "the Cornholer" was put on this board? Anybody willing to stand up and admit to its origin and what it means, so when I get asked in the liftline I can have a reasonable answer......

A lot of the boards that were initially ordered without a custom name were just named from a large list that Shred originally provided. During the first run, Madd insisted that we provide a name, and if someone didn't, it would come from that list, which I believe included "The Cornholer".

Either way, its an awesome board and you'll have a great time on it. Throw a Bomber sticker on the back if the name doesn't work so well for you. :)

all glass boards for now.I have demoed several metal boards but am not ready to buy one yet. I will always have an older glass board as a rock board for all mountain use. I may demo some more boards this year to see what I think?

I am in the predictable category of being a newbie who bough used glass boards to get started. I would love the chance to try out some of the new metal boards once I get better. Maybe by then there will be some used ones around :D

Won't have a metal board for at least 5 years or so but look forward to seeing what it's like. Post more used boards. I've got 300 dollars burning a hole in my pocket!:lol::lol:

Edit: Won't consider anything with a -20cm waist.

Show me where and I'm buying. I keep looking on here but the the widths are all way too narrow for my foot. I need 21 or wider otherwise I'm squallin". Seriously, got 300 for a new board, you lead the way Obiwan.

By the way, I made a joke about you on another link, please don't get mad. Or Madd... pun intended.

That board is going to become a legend here! I'd second the sticker suggestion. OR, go with BlueB's idea that it says "The Cornholes" which does appear to be a legit surf spot in SF. Still, I'd be prepared to get some questions and funny looks.

I watch as much as I can, usually by the time I see one it's gone. I sport a 12 us / 46 eur size foot so need the width. I try to watch eBay too, but things tend to go crazy in the last hour of bidding and what was a 150 dollar board goes up to 350/400 real quick. If you want to get rid of something with about a 12 scr in the 170-175 range let me know.

photodad, I do have a tanker wide for softboot pleasures. 268 waist turns GS board size but is a softboot ride. not what you're looking for though..... you want a good hardboot setup.

as for the madd, as jack said the cornholer is what it says if you ask me. all the boards had dirty names. mine was the fornicator.

Picked up a used metal board with a constant sidecut and no decambered anything. It's like most "new" things, it's flat out easier to ride. Goes faster, goes slower, turns easier, holds better, seems smoother. The latest variable sidecuts and rockers probably make them even better. It's not going to make the earth spin a different direction....but it's put my glass boards into "active" retirement for sure.
