New Graphics for Donek

As many of you know I am no graphic artist. I did, however throw together some fast artwork for prototypes this past summer. I am switching topsheets on everything, so I am attempting to put together a varried graphic offering. I have a couple of people well known in this market producing some stuff, but I'd like your feedback on these graphics I did.

IMHO the flame looks way too Burton-ish.

But the logo doesn't show well on it - perhaps a change in the logo color and/or placement.

I'm not feeling the new font for the name. I would stick with the bird logo or go back to the vintage ~2000-2003 font.

Eye is pretty, I would pick it for a woman's board. Salt is interesting but not for a snowboard. I love Sunset, to me it looks like a neo-Cruzer, which is a good thing, but the name is upside down relative to the horizon. Ice is a good idea but I personally don't like blue on brown anywhere, any time. Flame is very nice but reminds me of an Ultra Prime. Noise is a home run for me, especially having seen a picture of it in use - very cool and original. Ecto - beautiful, love the Ghostbusters reference, but it looks like a Coiler. I voted Sunset and Noise.

Not to rain on the parade but even little ole me looks like I could wip these out in about 10 minutes..

You deserve better.. I know that you need a common template but it needs more thought behind it..

Others were way better in the past, except the for the cloth topsheets... Just like Jack my IMHO>>

I agree about the old fonts, I liked them better and I do like the bird logos as well

I prefer the old font stuff from around 03-04 also.

As for the designs. I love Sunset Ice and Noise.

Salt would be great to put on a spring/summer training board to be used at Mt. Hood.

Have to agree with others, I like the older DONEK font and Bird.

those that like the old logo.The new font lacks the sophistication and innovation Donek is known for.'Salt' looks GREAT to me and Ice looks good.Noise is nice.Ecto's impact might be lost under the bindings,but the look is very nice.If I had to choose,Salt would be it but I'm also with those who think there should be more thought and experimentation before production.

Pitty of the work in it, but I wouldn't buy a board with these topsheet designs. A few months ago there was a Donek with a custom metal rusted topsheet. Liked that one very much.

you had incredible graphics ( logos etc) a few years back: why not get the help of the same graphic designer?

Sean, I agree with many here, older fonts and keep the bird...and keep things simple, I am a fan of plain top sheets, solid colors, metallic colors, see through, etc...or at least keep them as options along with your new top-sheets.

I really like noise and ecto. Salt is pretty cool too. I like graphics that are actually photos. I really like the metal graphics that Donek already has on their metal boards.

That logo has message (speed, skill, flight etc) and is recognizable/unique

try to have a concept/message something relevant related to the consumer, moment of use, the season, the stoke, the technologies, etc, anything!
or use the textures in a context (the rusted metal idea)

When a design got a concept people won't comment about aesthetics

Yeah - I liked these designs much better, logo, topsheet and all. The logo is particularly good in these too, I prefer them to the bird logo you used in previous generations.

I like the flame. Ecto is OK too. Sunset looks upside down.

Second on the Metal Board...Also not a big fan of the new logo. Stick with something that's still pidgeon based, it's your calling card. The new one will get lost in the crowd and does make your logo stand out.

Flame, eye, noise and ecto are all interesting, but none really wow me.

I do like the flaming bird logo that someone resurrected.

I'd stay simple and keep the branding consistent. Some of those designs look a little "Never Summer"-y. And honestly, while I like that company's boards a lot, I've always thought their graphics lacked sophistication.

All the topsheet design looks great. That flame donek look like $$$$$$$$$$. :1luvu: It's very bad ass; is that topsheet carbon fiber? The bird almost look like it's 3D

To me it's really diffcult to strike the balance between price and look.
Let those who have money to burn order the design they want.
Poor bloke like me will take the stock one without any hestiation.

Loved the bird logo so much its part of my ink. The above designs are clean and simple. Sean, you don't need fancy artwork for your boards...they speak volumes by themselves. If people want something more, then they can customize it.

I liked the noise idea. The ice too. I don't like one side being black and so much color on the other side. maybe on an asym. : )

The noise theme, toned down in color or maybe just blue and white all the way across the board would be cool.

Oh yeah! I like these. I tend to stick to the simpler (but not simplistic) designs. I won't buy a board if the graphics are too loud.

+1 font ain't doin' it for me, either. perhaps the addition of a cool, brand new bird logo made in the style of that scribbly/cursive text to complement it could work.

if i were more of a graphics person, i think all of them except the eye will fly for me, with the mindset of "it's just a stock, noncustom graphic, and it looks pretty cool." with the eye, it kind of gives me the feeling of having a stretched, low-res picture pasted on a big surface area. maybe if it had more detail..

but then again, i don't even have one. good ol' converted-to-analog cable tv ftw.

in the end, though, i'd pick one of the generic logo templates (like the #1 and #2 in pow4ever's attached picture) over these any day, 'cause i just like them that way. i'm not much of a graphics guy unless the design was specified to my every desire; if i really wanted a bitchin' graphic, i'd commission someone to make my own.

Don't mess with the branding. People identify the logo and the font with a great handcrafted product. Please continue to use those elements or some recognizable derivative.

Seems like I may be alone in liking the Sunset top sheet because it is upside down to the name. I would second appreciation for the Donek Pigeon, perhaps writ large on the tail. I also like the current metalic topsheets and the depth they appear to have, I was quite happy when I took my gold one out in the sun for the first time, quite a thing.

I really appreciate all the feedback guys. As I stated the graphics I posted here were my relatively unskilled attempts. I have some really cool stuff from JK, Steve Fleck, and Ken Delrossi. I've listened on the retention of the bird. While I'm not 100% sure what we'll do here, I do have a couple versions that retain the bird and meet the other needs this logo had intended to fill. Hopefully, I can get the web site finished in the next week or so and everyone can see all the cool new stuff we've got available for next year.

My favorites are flame and noise, but if I bought a Donek board, I wouldn't mind having any of these desings on it.
