Hi guys,

I need some help. I bought a set of Catek Race TI bindings and I've having trouble mounting them. First of all I want to make sure I'm not missing any parts. Here's everything out of the box. Note two long bolts and one short.

There are two wedges. Should there be four? I was told that I could do 3 or 6 degrees of toe lift and heel lift with these bindings.

The instructions say "Make sure the canting wedges are both tilted inwards". I'm assuming what I have identified in the photo below is a canting wedge. Because of three knee surgeries, my right (rear) knee already is canted 5.5 degrees inward. I'm thinking I should eliminate that cant. Your thoughts?

Finally, in order to add wedges, do I need to remove these screws? If so, I'm incapable of doing so. They're either glued in or torqued in so tight they'll never come out.

I'm probably overlooking something obvious but can't figure out what it is. I figure you guys can straighten me out quickly. Thanks in advance.

Those are F2, not Catek.
Never used them but your setup look right to me.

If I remember correctly, the arrow is not pointing to an actual screw, but a nut that does not get turned, but rather rides along the long bolt which brings the toe and heel pieces in and out to adjust for sole length. Did that make sense? In order to take the heel and toe pieces off, you must move the bails all the way (I can't remember if it is all the way in or all the way out) exposing the bolts underneath that hold them on. You move them in and out by using the phillips head bolt on the front and back of the binding. I always used a drill driver to move the bails because they take a lot of turns to move them all of the way. Good luck.

You're right. They are F2. I bought them from Catek.

Before I ordered them I asked about the wedges and got this reply:

"The F2 Race does include a large lift wedge, plus stackable canting wedges that can be used for your toe lift (this is exactly the set-up that I've run on the F2s -- toe & heel lift with no cant). The wedges are included in the price."

I removed the cant piece from the heel piece and put in the large wedge.

I don't know if you can tell anything from this but I stacked two of the opposable cants along with the small lift wedge provided and got this arrangement for the front. I had tried all four cants plus the lift but the provided bolts were too short.

What puzzles me is that the small lift wedge seems to be inclined the wrong way so that the the toe points down rather than up. I must be pretty clueless. In any event, there were only two long bolts provided so I need to go out and buy two more for the front toe lift.

I believe the small toe wedge is meant to maintain proper ramp angle with the thicker heel wedge, or vice-versa, used with or w/out the cants.

Yes. The small toe wedge is used under the toe block when you use the big heel lift wedge.

That makes sense. Thanks.

Should I just stack the four cant wedges to make toe lift? I'll need to pick up some more bolts.

I have stacked 4 of the cant wedges for lift before. Works perfectly fine. I wasn't using the big lift so I was able to cut down one of the long screws and use it with the other medium screw. If you are using the big lift, then, like you mentioned, I think you would need more screws since the short ones are not long enough for 4 stacked cant wedges.

You got it figured out just fine Pat! Thick and thin angled risers are for heel lift use them with or with out the cant blocks. Cant blocks are about 3 degrees each, long bolts (2 one size 1 a little shorter) are for the lift kit.

You can stack or build any how you like as long as you use the correct bolts, most people try and use a lock washer with bolts from the hardware store!

You know if you would have bought them from hardbooter.com we would have given you much better customer service, but well everyone knows that!!!:1luvu:

I run heel lift on back foot , toe lift( 2 stacked cants) on my frount and love it, of course its the same set up I have run since around 93ish.....

Some guys and girls will find another heel lift block and use it as toe lift also!

You guys are the best! I knew my questions would be answered promptly and accurately. I had to drive back down to CT from VT this morning and didn't get a chance to finish the installation but will be back up there in a couple weeks and will finish the job. Can't wait to try it out. I've been running Burton Race plates flat for a couple years and am looking forward to have some heel/toe lift. In addition to helping my racing I suspect I'll see a bit less quad burn in the front leg.

Countdown to winter has begun.....

Unrelated: I took up pencil sketching recently and did this of one of my runs at the NASTAR Nationals at Steamboat in March. The next day I broke my ankle in the ski race!

It looks like if you reversed the top riser, you would make it point up instead of down.

I don't even know if I still can do it, or computer "ate" my tallent :(
As I spend a lot of late aftewrnoons in the park with my kid nowadays, I might start carrying the sketch pad with me.

Any idea where I could find another heel lift block? Do you have them over at hardbooter?

Go for it. I took my grandson to a Fourth of July parade and he didn't quite make it through. I couldn't resist sketching him.

Thanks.
Good luck with your F2s. I was going to head north this weekend to finish implementing the suggestions the folks above have made but we had to scrap the plans. We're flying to London the following weekend so I'm not sure when I can finish the job. I can't wait to try the new bindings!
