I do a bit of testing & design work with a local shaper- she (yes she) goes to school with me and has been shaping for several years. Her boards are known as "M surfboards"
Most of them are ice 9 blanks, which are derived from sugar cane, and they're glassed using resin research epoxy.
All are custom shaped, too.

Basic price structure is $300 under 6' to $400 for 8' up to 9'11'' and the expected sort of price scale between.
Prices don't include boxes/fins, and extra-heavy glass is extra too.

If anyone's interested in something for the warmer months ahead, get ahold of me and I will pass on her info to you.

Here's two pics of my favorite board from her- very skatey- she isn't afraid to try a new shape, and it's a lot cheaper than one of bruce's customs!

(we would have called something that short a "bellyboard" in my day), and what a great blank material! Hadn't heard of that before.

Hoping to buy my first "stand-up" board in 25 years this spring - an 8 or 9' "sponger".

Good luck to this talented woman, to M surfboards, and to you. Anyone who surfs in those bone-chilling conditions deserves kudos and respect!!

Boards like that are all about developing speed and power in relatively mushy east coast conditions. they do the job well I just can't get past the water temp

Tony, a shorty wetsuit would take care of you for a surfing fix in the summer. I've got a 9'8'' with your name on it if you want an easy to ride singlefin that works well in local conditions.

Dingbat,
email inbound.

Here's a few more photos
This fish is 5'10'' if I remember right. FAST too.

This is a recent 6'6'' shorty for one of my friends. He isn't exactly lightweight, and I think this will take great care of him.

And another of the same board- Thruster/ Quad options.

Not that too much of it is visible, but the longboard at left in this photo is another of hers, which she made for a trip to indo with a journalism group.
