Hi, I'm a new poster here, from the Netherlands. Have watched this forum and about every part of the Carver's Almanac, Bomber and Extremecarving.com the last months. I'm riding an Atomic Dreamraider 158 (most agressive they have to offer) with Ride C.A.D. bindings. I find myself carving and wanting to carve on any part of the slope, which works to a certain extent. I ride 45/33 with twisted highbacks and I've already put toe lift on front and heel lift in the back, which took me another step further. This year I'm tuning the edges myself and learned to wax. So thanks to the Almanac i'm halfway there.
Because I live far from the mountains I kept this 'versatile' setup for powder and every condition. Last trip though, I did a couple of runs with a instructor (has the 3 swiss patents) who said I rode like a racer, and why I wasn't on hardboots. He also mentioned my board, although stiff, was to small for my agressive riding.
So last week I ran into a cheap second hand set. It's a Nitro GTR 163 with Snowpro's and UPS Mach1. I actually bought it, mainly for the boots and bindings. I serviced the board, but I don't think it's what I'm looking for, I discovered a crack above the side edge where the topsheet came loose from the rest (cap construction). I fixed it with epoxy 2k and pressed it tight, don't know if it will last. Tonight I'm going to an indoor track to see what hardboots are like.
I have to following questions;
I can't find any info on the board, what is it?
How do the adjustment on the back of the mach1 work?
I found out that Goltes is available near where I live. I think a bit wider board (Nitro is about 19,5cm) with lower angles would suit me better. Any comments on the Grand Carve and Extreme carve 171 (same dimensions, different construction). I'm 6'0 and 175lbs. I like to carve tight and relatively slow, but would like to do it on steeper parts (european reds & blacks) as well. In addition, I've read some negative comments on Snowpro's. I love to experiment and try 1000 settings, is it wise to invest in TD3's? I didn't like the stance in my livingroom :-)
Well, thanks for reading! Ciao, Niels.
