My PhD Supervisor wants his research group to take a Friday off and go skiing.

Only about 5 of us (we're 15 people) have ever been skiing/boarding before and only 3, including the supervisor, own our own equipment and feel confident on the hills.

We're in Hamilton and will be driving there for the day. He's been suggesting Blue Mountain, but that seems like a really long drive for a lot of people who will not get off the baby or green runs. Also, by the same rationale, Blue can be expensive and we're a bunch of grad students!

Can anyone suggest somewhere closer to Hamilton that would be a good choice for a group of new skiers/riders?

thanks,
beth

Hi Beth,
Glen Eden is close to you and not too challenging.

Have fun.
PS: looks like it's going to be VERY cold Friday. Make sure they dress warm!

I forgot to add - and somewhere a bit bigger than Glen Eden! The supervisor doesn't like it.

We had the suggestion of Lakeridge, but I have never been there.

Lakeridge is not much bigger than Glen Eden.
Mansfield if it's open to the public on Friday is a nice challenge for your supervisor. Moonstone has a nice beginner hill and nice runs for your supervisor.

For 30min more, you are better off at Blue or even Holiday Valley in NY from where you are. http://www.holidayvalley.com/.
Check for discount on their sites etc...

A bad day on the hill is better than a good day anywhere else. Call the ski school for a group deal boarding or skiing with that size they may have an intro special stay close to where you are more time on hill first time out . Layer up, helmets a must!! ask about student discount! I'll put in a plug for the oshawa ski club off hwy115 @ regional rd 9.
