any hardbooters goin up today??
Clock tower at opening bell (9:00) and 1:00
will bring the Hyarc for pics & giggles. I was suprised sat. to find the thing actually works on easy slopes but it only likes snappy slolom turns.
Hyarc stance options minimal, it could use about 10cm more nose, mini tracking fins on the tail only noticed when riding flat:eek: May need to cinch up the cables after a few runs.

used the 178 oxygen summit in the morning while the 2 ft of powder was light, rode the hyarc in the afternoon on both choppy and bumped up groomers. As the snow warmed up, some of the just opened, more exposed steeps slid after being ski cut.
Be careful out there, dangerous base layer in the PNW
The summit is wide, as in slow edge to edge, but carves well switch with a centered stance. I had to move the binders all the way back for the DEEP snow to keep the nose up.
It would be better suited to a bigger guy (200#) with mondo 29-30.
The hyarc is tricky to ride smoothly with the rear pivot, I found it relatively easy to control in quick slalom turns even in small bumps.

did you buy that oxygen summit that was posted in craigslist spokane?
i was looking at it but $200 for a board that old just did't seem right to me.
going to 49 tommorow.

Nope Ebay from CO. The base is a bit rougher than I expected for $150 but thats Fleabay for ya. It's a great all mountain crudblaster, and carves switch nicely.

How do you like that escape "all over?"
The Escape is a 165 with a 20.5 waist not sure of the sidecut about 11+/-, Carves switch well but it feels a little short for me, sinks a bit in the deep.
Carves better than it surfs, pretty stiff in the trees but will go anywhere. they made a 174 that would be better for bigger guys.

I actually bought a 174 from some shmuck in boston. When it got here it was broken at the waist, and otherwise just plain shot...
fortunately I got my money back. that guy was a PUNK.

got there around 8:30 am. when the bell rang the fog rolled in.
headed over to snow ghost (the two seater on the back).
rode a goomer down to stella tried a few runs thur the trees. too icy.
head back up snow ghost. under the lift there were patches of powder.
half way down mid point the trees where good. did that a couple of times.
around 11:00 the runs down to corbin lake had soften up a little.
made the last couple of runs there. then headed home.
lift ride back to the top i saw what i thought was you. a snowboarder with poles. as they got closer low and behold it was a kid riding with poles.

Speaking of converts the Schweetzer crew brought another bro to the darkside yesterday. Chad is a skier & boarder, Dane set him up on an old e-deck & mega-rides. After a few runs on the bunny slope to get the feel, we took him to the backside tightened up his stance, increased the forward lean & he was rippin' nicely llinked carves down Kaniksu in 1/2 a day. Now we need to hook him up with a 26 boot & "a board with more bite":eplus2:

The bigfish has the big fog, but "ski by braile" is a good skill to have on some days. Last Sun. I rode chair 4 (sunny side) all morning wihth no lines & great vis., while the masses were picking their way down & over loading the 6 pack. I did hit the triple for a couple of Braile Bump runs in the afternoon.
Dane has been a great ambassador of alpine, hooking some local converts up with demo gear. The massive grins after a 1st session with the hardboot crew are priceless.
Inpromptu INWES sesssion at schweetzer would be Great. 3-5 alpiners meet at the clock tower for opening bell 8:50 mon., tue. & wed. & I'm there on fri. also. the 20th looks good for carving weather.
Day tickets are $59, becki has a few $10 off coupons, if you get a letter from skischool you can get a comp ticket.
I'd also like to get a group to car pool up to Turner mt. (Closed mid week) for a Friday powder day. $30 tickets & BYOB, all day freshies & they've stepped up the grooming. The 27th Is shapeing up to be a killer pow day at Turner.

Gus came up fri., it was a beautiful sunny powder day & some of the crew talked us in to hiking up big blue. 12 of us in all shredded up the face, had a great run, but the bush wackin' to get out was pretty thick. Gus hardboots on freeride boards also, so the hike & bushwackin wore him out. I gave him a dicount coupon to entice him back for more civilized shredding.

"Great Dane".... I like that. "Toughest rider I know." Steve, I'd put a second on that one and I wasn't even there to see him today..... and the coolest thing about Dane.... he's so modest... and always looking to improve and try new things.... as Troy keeps saying, what a great ambassador for the sport!
So Dane, since I know you are lurking around here..... (I keep saying that!) I'm glad that I was with you that day on Upper Kanitsu (however ya spell it!).... we both made it down alive and you with a lot more grace than me! So by next year when I make it up there again, I'm sure you'll be rippin that steep stuff!
So, I just ordered a new pair of skis on the credit card. I will get on my board next year, but I'll be on my skis a lot more. I haven't been on the board since Schweitzer (oh, except one little lesson on the beginner hill!), and I've got two more days at Lookout and may not get on the board anymore this season. Well, hmmmm.... MAYBE on Saturday. Only if the snow is firm though. If it's mushy, I won't do it. And I'll be minus child that day so maybe I should get on the Hot again! hmmmmmm
Ok, it's past my bedtime even though I've had a bit of caffine. Going to pick up a Sesame Street cake for my 2 year old's birthday party tomorrow!

thanks for offering up the boots Stopher but I think Chris is a size 11 or so, mondo 28.5 would be needed. I told him Dane could hook him up as he's about the same size. The baleman's on a family road trip so I'm not sure he'll be out again this season.
Looks like another premium groomer day with soft freshies everywhere offpiste. I can't decide which board to use so i'll bring 4 different ones:freak3:
Turner Mt is still open sat & sun till the snow is gone so we may hit that the 12th or 19th If the snow holds out http://skiturner.com/
Snowing in my yard as I type, read hunt&peck, I think everyone needs to forget about skiing on thanksgiving and figure on skiing on easter.

60 groomed runs, 60* temps & hawaiian shirts will rule the day,
the spring skiing we missed out on last year when it snowed the last weekend.

Kathy, Troy et al... again thank you for your kindness and hospitality... I love Lookout and hope to make it up there. I need to get my second board working so I can put aside the Model-A and perhaps even turn quickly enough to avoid trees, skiers, boarders, lift poles, out of bounds markers, ski patrols and the liftees trying to slow down my suicidal decent into the gravitational abyss of alpine boards. Newton... pray for me and my future among the trenches.

This weekend may be your weekend to go to Lookout, balebombsman. Free skiing for everyone (at least according to Lookout's site). I'll be up there! Maybe I'll see a Bomber there too (Kathy? bbm?). :biggthump

Mon. was the best employee party we've had in years:1luvu:
Great friends, good food & beer, bluebird spring slush, t-shirts & sunscreened noses, b-chute & heathers groomed to perfection, Adrian Xavier's reggae on the patio.
The Contraption, ie, Hyarc was alot of fun in the slush once I got the hang of pivoting the back foot in fall line slalom turns. I would never attemt to ride it w/out my poles.

good pay from a company that cares may be a stretch. If I didn't have to hike for killer spring slush 100 inches deep I would be blowin' their horn a lot harder:freak3:
P.S. the hyarc on 45* black diamond groom is a death wish:smashfrea
