Anyone know mountains that stay open into the summer, save Mount Hood? I'm moving out west in early june and would like to go boarding sometime this summer.

In Colorado, Arapahoe Basin in Summit County will be stay open until early June, at the very least. Many years they can keep the lifts turning until early July, and with the recent addition of snowmaking they hope to create a base that will further extend the season.

Mammoth Mt. in California will likely stay open until mid-June. The Horstman Glacier at Blackcomb and, as you mentioned, the Palmer Glacier at Timberline offer lift-serviced snowboarding throughout the summer.

If you enjoy a healthy ascent, many people hike high-country snowfields and glaciers well into the summer. The St. Mary's Glacier, just north of Idaho Springs, Colorado, is a popular summer snowboard spot. Keep in mind, however, that the glacier is not groomed, and you can expect the mountaineering challenges (rock and ice fall, unarrested falls, sudden T-storms, monster suncups, crevasses, and rotten snow) typical of the high country. You should know what you're doing--or learn from an experienced friend or guide.

We're heading to A-Basin today. The coverage is great and the riding outstanding. Plus, the beach party is just getting going!

Good coverage overall.

Barring a major meltdown (more snow is forecast this weekend), the Basin will stay open well into June.

-sigh-

I was gonna go ride the basin on tuesday, but a friend and I lost our snowboards. Apparently, either one of us didn't close the rack down entirely. So it went off as we were driving on Hwy 6 to Basin. We're guessing somebody pick 'em off the road and kept 'em. -SIGH-

Sucks.
