For those of you who may be interested, I’ve been corresponding with an employee at bluetomato.com (based in Austria) who has just got the word that the Oxygen line of race boards will live on. He put in an order for the 04/05 season. I don’t know if they will be available in the USA but I’ll spend the $$ on shipping if need be.

Protons are nice, mine went for 4 whole seasons before breaking and it still had camber.
Worth the money.

I'm also a big fan of the Oxygen Protons.

I bought two Protons from EBay this season. A 164 GS for $175 (barely used 2001/2002) and a 149 SL for $56 (new 2002/2003). That 149 SL is the best deal I ever got on any piece of equipment.

Both boards carve great on the groomed and are even fun off-piste. The 149 SL has replaced my Donek Incline as my everyday board.

There have been a lot of Proton 170's and 149's on EBay the past couple of months. Oxygen must of had a lot of unsold stock in those 2 lengths.

Good to hear that Oxygen is staying in the alpine market.

Yep, the guy has been selling tons of race gear, even had 2 different types of Oxygen hard boots.

Mine was a 172 which I bought from a friend for 250CAN.

Didn't even know they made a SL board, is that the Neutron? Great price though for what ever it is.

No, the SL board is also one of the Proton models. Oxygen makes the SL board in 149. 156 and 160cm lengths.

Hey Gdboytyler, would you mind sharing your height/weight? A short board sounds like fun, but I'm wondering if 149 might be a little too short for me. Do you happen to know the side cut radius of the 149?

Thanks!

Dan, I'm 5'7" and weigh 130 lb(59kg). I'm right in Oxygen's recommended weight range for the 149 SL (40-65kg). The sidecut radius is 8.5m.

Since I mostly ride at a smaller and often crowded resort (Snow Summit in So Cal), the shorter board is a lot more user friendly.

I've also ridden both my Protons off-piste at Mammoth. In the double-blacks where I had to do jump-turns at the top of the run, the extra length of the 164 was giving me a sore back. The shorter 149 SL made riding the steeps and bumps a lot easier, and I never felt like I needed more edge - maybe because the snow was soft.

If I had known the 149 SL would be so fun to ride, I would have happily paid retail years ago.

I bought a 178 GS recently off eBay. Shame that it rained really hard here and melted all the remaining snow as it was in transit. :(

Now I'll just have to look at it and dream about riding it until next season.

For you Proton fans, I have an '01 178 GS that is in EXCELLENT condition that I'm selling CHEAP - Gotta move a couple of these boards outta here. $150.00 - includes shipping in lower 48. E-mail me for pics.

Yeah, I know there's a classified section (it's on there too) - this just seemed like an appropriate thread to pimp this board from.
