1/16 th inch "veneer" oak/maple slices with your basic wood thickness planer ??

Just bought a Roarockit TAP kit. I have access to some oak and maple logs and plan to start milling some tomorrow.

Wondering if, when wood is properly kiln-dried, I can use a Dewalt or Delta thickness planer to produce 1/16 plies for skateboard laminating.

Any thoughts?

you can but you would be wasting a lot of wood...a bandsaw would be better to get small thichnesses first and then plane them

Ideally, you'll bandsaw first, called resawing in the trades.
Then you can plane pretty thin by running the strips through the planer on top of a thicker board. That board needs to be 3/4' thick or more, and surfaced 2 sides. If you're getting some blow-out, you'll need to do the same technique, but on a thickness sander such as a timesaver. Many larger cabinet shops will rent you time on theirs by the 1/2 hour usually.
