I'm not sure if this thread belongs here or in the "off-topic" forum. Please move the thread and forgive me if its in the wrong place.
I just saw some pics on the upcoming game, Wii Fit, that there is an alpine snowboarding game where you do some slalom. You use the Wii fit board to make the carves and turns. I don't know much about it but its probably something I'd do in the summer when theres no snow.

CoolBoarders 2...
You can use a 98 Burton Alp, and run some gates.
The game's for PS1 and from 1997, but I still play it.

Ps 1 isn't even close to Wii.

Can't tell what board it is. Looks like it would be great for my daughter.

I remember this game - pretty cool for its time. From what I remember there were options to use a Burton FP or UP to race with in that game, but don't remember Alps as one of the options. It's been a while though.

Graphics were definitely the Alp's green/purple/etc "X" pattern.
There was a "special" unlockable Asym FP. It was the fastest and best in the game.

The first SSX (PS2 launch title) had alpine boards. It wasn't really "carving" as much as gigantic jumps, but the alpine boards were really, really fast ;) The even had special tricks that you could only do with alpine boards because of the different stance angles.

Same with CB2.
Alpine boards were wicked fast, but didn't turn..There was more skidding than carving.
Stance angles were the same as a regular board, and everyone wore hardboot looking things. :smashfrea

The Wii fit isn't out for a couple more weeks over here - Just don't know if the game pictured comes with it or is a separate purchase

Looks like it's included with Wii Fit. Glad I have it on pre-order. For those interested in picking this up, I'd recommend doing the same. It's sold like gangbusters in Japan and Europe.
Here's are a couple more videos. Check out the angulation :D

I love the Wii metal board... those game designers really did their homework on raceboards.:biggthump

I loved the old SSX tricky with the alpine boards! Snowboard kids had alpine boards too, they were all asyms. The new SSX games actually have you carving turns, so im really bummed there arent any alpine boards to really carve on

That guy was bad at the slalom. His lines were way wide, and he skidded all over :D
Second was cool.
Makes me wanna get a Wii.

Snowboard Kids 2 you can lay down some low ec turns. Unfortunately the designers of the game gave the Alpine board the worst turning performance.

Almost all the games I've played with alpine snowboards have that, with the assumption that "Squared tail? Eff that, it can't turn!"
If they gave alpine snowboards the appropriate stats, they would be the best thing on the snow.

They do place the alpine board as the fastest, true, and lowest for tricks, also true. I think they make the assumption with the sidecut radius though when it comes to the turnability. I do like the fact that they give Tommy the highest level for speed, us big guys have to stick together!!!

Who says alpine boards are the fastest?
Anyone, including me, can go fast.
Control? Who needs it?

cool game; of course the designers don't grasp the concept of a GS course though; more than 3/4 of the 'turns' are completely straight; still i plan on buying it; looks fun :biggthump

Shoot, in CB2 there are gates set up that dictate going straight for the whole length of the slalom.
Still an awesome game though.

Long legnth + narrow width is going to be faster than short length + wide width.

I'd think that as long as the snow isn't super easy to displace, i.e. Pow or super slush, the surface area in contact with the snow dictates the speed.
A Renn Tiger goes 125, but so does a pair of DH racing skis. Obviously, a snowboard is wider and most aren't over 200, let alone 230. I think in some discipline where speed REALLY matters, it comes down to snow, slope, and aerodynamics. For normal use, you can gather that if you point it down the hill, it will go fast enough to cause some sweat.

There's also the rider factor. Snow condition would make it more noticable, but I can't think of a snow condition that would make the shorter, wider board faster. I'd say in the right condition the difference would be too slight to be noticed. Kinda like in swimming, what's faster, just shaving down or these new body suits they've developed. It's an arguement over a fraction of a second.

Aerodynamics referred to the rider.
I don't think skis and snowboards have much wind resistance...at least when ridden properly!

Doing a straight up Rocket grab (no tweaking to the side) on a 171 with an uphill wind can sure be felt!!! But then not "alpine" riding.

You brought freestyle into the equation?!?!
Now it's all gone downhill!
But perhaps that's not so bad :)
I'll tell you what, I hate uphill wind. :freak3:

I was out one day a few years ago and the wind was so strong it could stop you if you stood up straight and held out your arms!!! It blew me backwards at the top of the hill where it was flat!!! The only way down was the steeper runs or staying in a tuck!!!

That happened, but it was a combo of wet powdery snow falling and wind. I couldn't descent a blue circle without pointing straight down.

proof that you're in the sierras!
wet and powdery don't go together unless you're in the sierras

Or...the San Antonio mountain range.
But close enough.
Baldy gets that wet power, then it freezes at night, then it gets windy during the day and it all gets blown off.:boxing_sm

Reminds me of "monster rancher"..... a game an ex girlfriend was addicted to. It has all the same feel to it, and the graphics really are poop.

CB2 has 3 secret characters, Grey, Snowman, and Boss.
Snowman is a snowman (really?) on a frying pan that goes endlessly fast but cannot turn, Grey is a grey (wow) alien on a little UFO that can do any spin trick, such as a 5000 degree spin, and Boss is just a...decent character.

colorado, thats some wicked agressive Canting you have there, or a lot of boot slop in the bindings!
Perhaps its just the angle of the pic?

May 12th, 2008, 08:51 AM
it's just 3 degree cant and i have the boots close to locked out; it's a combination of the angle of the pic and the fact that i have a really forward style of riding; not like chris klug forward but i put my hips and lower body forward and down to push the board through the turn quickly.
works for me :D
