Has anyone out there ever been carving in the poconos? If so I could use some recommendations on gear for a newcomer. I have been reading posts on this message board for the last three nights trying to get clues on board length and side cut for the areas I will be riding in. I think I have a good idea so far but I thought I'd ask the question anyway. I'm 6'1", 170 lbs and my goal is to develop an energetic but fluid riding style. I love the videos of the European carvers but I don't think I have the mountains available to work on that style if riding. Any input would be appreceited. Thanks

you can ride like that on any moderately steep pitch and wide groomed stuff. The only difference is that the length of the pitch they are on is larger than most small ski areas. (southern ontario) You might get 3 turns in while they get about 20 on the one run

Get a board build for short turns, like a slalom board, it will help you get the most out of your mountain.
its what i do to get the most out of massanutten.

Mike,
Keep my profile handy. Next season we can head to Montage (Scranton) together.

Mike,
The Poconos can handle up to a 186 GS board.. Come out to any Mid Atlantic Snowboard Series Race, and there will be plenty of alpine riders you can chat with. I'd start out with something in the low 170's for all-around carving. You've got the weight and heighth to throw it around. Have fun, ride fast-take chances...
