I have been a longtime lurker-I envy your group's camraderie(sces, eces).I am 56 yr oldmale-been softbooting for quite awhile mostly at stratton..I am a conservative rider-not politics-but although I envy the carve,am a dedicated skidder, not a lover of high speed and I am not real comfortable going over far on the toeside but can get lower on the heelside...my question is with those traits can I carve? I wouldn't want to switch to hardboots, etc. just to skid-I do that well and in comfort now..if one is not real aggressive can it be done?

Of course! Alpine boards are so much more responsive and fun than freerides. Most people I meet up with on the hill end up being about 55 years old, and ride with a real relaxed style, but still lay it down nicely. These people go for softer boots like Raichle Le Mans, and a Freecarve board with around 10-12m sidecut so they don't have to work real hard to get it rippin

The season that I finally "got" carving in my hardboots was proceeded by an end of season day that it clicked in my soft setup. I spent the morning on a steeper blue run laying out toesides and "grab" carving on the heelside edge. Can you do it? Oh yeah, and it may lead to hardboots! I would recomend turning up your angles to eliminate as much as possible toe/heel drag to the mid 20's to mid 30's. And start getting lower on your board.
