At the end of every ski season my friends and I used to walk up the slopes to look for dropped items during the ski season. We used to find every thing from money to two-way radios to empty vodka bottles. Now that my local ski area is closed and the snow is slowly disappearing I want to take a walk up the slopes. I talked to a friend who works in the racing department who said that the ski area frowns on this and will kick you out. Since they own all the land their ski area is on, they have the right to do this. I was wondering about the ski resorts who lease their land or who's land is owned by the government or state. What are the restrictions on trespassing on these lands when the ski season is closed?

if you lease a car, will I get in trouble if I pop the door and go looking for two-way radios or money?
think about it

most of them are on govt land I believe, and if you have a forest use permit you can go anywhere but NOT on their physical property like lifts and stuff?
we used to hike steamboat after hours with our forest passes. from what I understood you could even do that during the day? just cant ride the lifts.
besides...if they just kick you off, who cares?

I would follow one of my guide lines I learned early on in engineering product development.
It is far easier to seek forgiveness than to obtain permission.:D

do they offer mtn biking in the summer? buy a lift ticket and cruise the runs on a bike, might be quicker.

Thats a cool idea, I don't see what ski hills could have against it, and I doubt that they're watching the hill too much in the off season (unless theres mountain biking).

Yes they do offer mountain biking in the summer. That would probably be the best way to look for stuff on the trails. Good idea!

Go one better and take a trash bag and do a little greening of the hill. Like Al says, forgiveness over permission. My pc .02
