is it "cut better"?

if you're asking if asyms had a deeper sidecut, it depends on the particular board.

If you're asking if asyms ride better....NO

I still do a little freesyle so I need something with the tail upturned. I think I'll go with the Burton Supermodel X. It's time for me to up with the times and you all have helped me with a simple yet vital question! Thanks!

The style required to ride symetrical alpine boards looks way better than asym boards (and softboot carving style)

If you're primarily going to be cruising the mountain and carving, you should consider a BX style board or an all-mountain carver. They have upturned tails and are very versatile. They'll carve a lot better than any freeride board too.
