Hey,

Anton Pogue and Adam Casanova started in Open Class slalom!

Unfortunatelly, they were beaten by some amateurs and juniors:D

Don't worry guys. That was not your day... or we all are getting old
:(

Sort of true there. But not quite. In slalom these are your Open Class winners.

In first place: Jason Hale is not a junior nor an amatuer - Jason has been on the World Cup competing in Boarder Cross and was last years champ. And is hardly an unknown rider.

In second place: David Manthei from Angel Fire and trains at Steamboat and has been killing it in PROFESSIONAL RACES across the country and grabbed some great finishes on a world scale. True that Manthei is 17 but he rides like a man.

Mort Nyberg from Squaw Valley is a long time professional rider who is in his thirties used to race downhill (ski) and is a professional coach at Squaw.

How do I know this - I was standing right there and between races tuned their boards to keep them in contention. As a matter of fact Mort is laying on the couch right across from me as I type from the easy chair. Just thought I could update and correct some mis information.

Cas and Pogue made a couple of bobbles in the flats and on the finish pitch respectively and could not make up the difference.

I know both Cas and Pogue well and they were killing it but that is racing one little mistake and your out - both of them will be back stonger than ever next year and I know they will remain hungry for the Podium.

Tell Mort to get his butt back to Squaw. Its puking snow and tomorrow's going to be an awesome pow day! I do feel a bit better about losing to him in our Tahoe area races now. Unfortunately we're the same age so we'll always be in the same class if he races age class rather than Open class.

Dragonfly,

I do not know aliases around, but isn't your first name Jeremy?

Ex World Cup Rossignol sponsored racer?

Anyway, I did not have doubt about folks in Open class. I started in Open class in 2000, but that was sort of experiment rather than serious racing to me:D

About aging process.... well I know it can catch up with Anton. We are the same age... or one year difference. So I probably know the feeling. We saw that movie about his chance to go to the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. Funny guy... I liked his sense of humor:)

Kent in NYC right now enjoying sales calls when he should be in New Mexico with his team......

Kent,

Where in NYC? Downtown?

Do you have some time for lunch?

It's Friday ;)

Chuck...Can I come ride with you as well?

I really only want to be there when Maciek comes to help with the slaughter.. Umm I mean readjustment in his riding style.

Maciek: the more crap you talk about racing and my friends the more I am watching all your post...... Why are you belittleing cats who devoted ther whole lives to snowboarding through up and comers. While you sit at you desk and talk smack with playful smiley faces? Here in America it is only cool to talk **** if you can back it up... Stop it Booby.

Read and learn more Its sounds to me you still need improvment..

Bordy,

Stop garbaging forum with your posts in others' threads, please. Find a subject for yourself. Don't play fool... 'cause when you say that "here in America" you speak for others and that does not seem to be right.

How old are you? Still testosterone blows up your lid? At least it looks like.

And don't post too frequently, 'cause your computers may fail again for unknown reasons:D They certainly get overheated like this forum when you make your inflammatory posts.

Bordy and Kent,

We are headed back to Colorado in a few days - come on out!

Then we are planning on a Tahoe reunion in a few weeks. Going to Squaw to hang with Mort and Garret and that wild kid Matt.

Mort did win the open class GS beating Pogue, Heinel, a host of others and get this - he turns 40 in a week!

There is hope for all of us!

Billy - I don't wanna get in the middle of your love/hate relationships with Maciek.....but it's easily curable:

Go into your profile and you're problems can instantly go away.......it works for me.

Thank you Kent. I have forgotten about that option. Will use it.

To be honest, I also do not know how these people can live here. I only work here commuting from New Jersey every day. Takes me 2-3 hours total (and so I cannot go for Mountaincreek evening runs anymore).

That's why I find some sanity balance in other activities.... like snowboarding on weekends and some other stuff that's not related to the forum;)

If you stay in New York next week then we can try and make it on some less busy day. If not then drop me a line when you come again and I will figure something out.

Maciek, I just got back from Angel Fire and what you said to open this post is extremely rude and disrespectfull to Cas and Pogue.

First of all the top three in the open class get money, this alone means that they are not amatures. Jason has years of racing experience and is one of the best boardercross riders in the world (he has competed in world cups, the x-games, and world cup finals). David was the top American in Slalom at the U.S. Alpine Finals in Breck(beating many full-time world cup athletes, including Klug), and qualified for for the world cup in Mt. Bacholor.

I could go on, but I'm getting tire of wasting my time with this. Have some respect for riders who have been racing at a world class level as long as Pogue and Cas. Considering Pogue grabed a world cup spot for the first part of this season I don't think he's getting old and going slower.

Phil,

Sorry that you felt this way. I did not mean to offend them or anyone. Just wanted to explore the subject of the USASA and to my surprize they showed up there.

I have been tracking Open class of the USASA for last several years and haven't seen many such US racers even coming to the USASA Championships.

This year however I see (and find out from respondents to my post) that the class becomes more and more prestigious as the competition gets to the top levels.

I appologize for misfire if I offended you folks.

However, this is an amateur event regardless of the fact that there are money for prize in Open class. I was once USASA Open class racer and I do not believe that anyone came there for money prize. USASA acts on much different principles than USSA as you certainly know.

But let me ask you a question or two:

Why World Cup or Continental Cup racers get so touchy these days?

Should we treat them as Gods without expressing our (perhaps uneducated) opinions?

philfell

No, we should not treat top level racers as gods, they are people just like you and me. But I do think that they deserve alittle respect from the racing community, when they have help progress our sport the way Pogue and Cas have. And I feel your post was disrespectfull to these individuals. Since I consider both of these people my friends I felt I should let you know that I felt your comments were out of line.

You're right, most years Fis level racers usually don't bother with USASA events, but this year the dates and location along with athletes moving toward coaching made it appealing for these riders to go try to make some cash. When money is on the line you never know who will show up to try to get a peice of it.

Hey Phil - all very true! Heck imagine my surprise when Ott showed up. Man I love her to death and she did what she does best - win.

Your guys did a great job - Abby is flying right now, I am impressed with the job your doing and have done. Good job on the Juniors this year and I know that next year you'll be back at the helm of PCSB.

Pogue and Cas both ripped it hard and came up with bobble here and there that cost them in the finals - Pogue made up for it with the boarder cross with a third and he and Heath get to share the king of party award.

Overall good event and I could not be anymore proud of everyones effort.

Ott gave my girlfriend a lesson before she went out to win. It was very productive. 15 year old mac Cloyes took 19th place at the breck race, slalom if I am correct.

Man there were so many great performaces at Nationals and throughout the year that it is hard to put it all down - some Junior names like Mac Cloyes, Kevan Beall(dangerKev), Jordan Slough, Kim Krahulic, Lauren Johnson, Roger Carver(this kid rips), Alex Kirkpatrick, Jessie Hazen, Abby Champange, Lynn Ott, Amy Sage, The Witty family, Patton, shucks the list goes on and on and on.

But what was my point? Everyone deserves recognition, not just the "professional riders".To wit: The Minnesota gang, the folks from the UP of Michigan, Mason Dixon (who knew, that the southern folks could anything than bar-b-que and eat grits) Western New York/Canada East, Alaska, North Tahoe, South Shore Tahoe, SoCal, Southern Vermont, so many riders, parents and coaches working their hearts out for THE RIDERS, make sure if you see one to tell'em great job, way to go and buy them a beer or soda. That's what I did - Thanks to Wing and Bill and Andrew for leading out the Alpine portion and to everyone for getting the job done in challenging conditions, way challenging and not being pissy about it. Oh and thanks to Angel Fire for letting us drink them dry and eat all their food - I know we made their fiscal year for them in a week!

CMC,

Lynn went out of her way down there to help with the kids and other riders.

I believe in that woman! We all should.
