Cripes...I know it's Volkl, not Volkyl
Has else anyone had problems with new Renntigers having severely screwed up inserts from the factory? This has happened to me twice in a row, with a 173 and a 178, fresh from the wrapper with the factory stickers. In both boards I had serious difficulty threading screws into about half the inserts.
These are either last year's models, or the year before, all-black with a faint tiger striping on the rear half.
I love riding these things but if these two boards are any indication, I'm done with them.
It wasn't just a little resin in the threads either. It took a LOT more than just chasing the threads down. It took cutting oil and time. They were really screwed up. One was so bad it had to be taken up to 1/4-28. Eyeballing the threads was interesting, some turns actually converged.
Does anyone know how much an insert is actually weakened by tapping to 1/4-28? That one is now the best-fitting of all the inserts.
