And I'm worried barely any terrain will be open. I have been checking the weather the past few weeks and it seems like there's just no luck. Can someone calm my fears or am I'm in for a few days of looking at brown grass?

I've spent a couple of New Year's in Summit County over the New Years and have always had good luck with snow. I have noticed this year has started out very slow but things can change in a hurry. Make sure to watch weather updates at this link.

Sometimes, Colorado get ****load of snow. So, its a gamble, tho id give it a 75% probability of that happening, according to Farmer's Alamnac. Hell, I might not know the "exact" chances.

I was at Vail in early December last year. Not perfect conditions in the back bowls, a bit thin but there was some very good runs to be had on the main mtn. Dont Fret, your going to ride and thats all that matters :biggthump

By Christmas we should be fine. We've only had one year since I've been here where it was "sketchy" for now at Xmas. You will be able to ride SOMETHING - Copper and Keystone are opening new terrain all the time.

Yeah,Summit seems to be a better bet then than Vail at that time.My wife and I were talking about how we remember at least half of the twelve seasons we spent working there seemed to start really snowing within a day or two of the Chiristmas crowd leaving around New Years day or so.Great for us but those years it seemed the early snow would melt and then manmade and some flurries would be what the Christmas crowd survived on.

I returned from my trip last Friday. I feel so lucky! Amazingly the mountains got barraged with snow leading up to Xmas so conditions were nice all around.
Favorite runs- Peak 10 and peak 7 at Breck, I could ride the Falcon chair all day. Then the bowls at Vail were just staggering in size, I got some powder here and there. I also hit up Blue Sky Basin and found some nice powder in the trees.
Overall a great trip, no lift lines until Monday the 24th when I decided to bail anyway.
