View Full Version : JIMINYPEAK- BOMBER DAY carvers only - in the works...

Considering now that the old "Ace Of Spades" run (was replaced by Coyotie Ridge park) is now back to being a normal run (park is moved to right side of Grand slam)
I figure that AOS would be perfect for us as it has some smooth flat areas and a few steep drops to it that we can lay different styles out and it is wide enough for us to utelize larger boards without fears of running out of room for turns ( unlike Whitetail or Jericho runs).
So here is what I have sofar:
Proposal for “BOMBER DAY”.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
As a member of the web forum www.bomberonline.com (http://www.bomberonline.com/), and an employee of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Jiminy</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Peak</st1:PlaceType>, I would like to pitch a possible event day for <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Jiminy</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Peak</st1:PlaceType></st1:place>.
Hard boot snowboarding is a rarity in a sea of park riders and present day snowboard stance and equipment styles. Many people only see Alpine stance, hard boots, plate bindings and big sweeping low turns on TV while watching GS races or the Olympics.
There are those among us who are “carvers” and would like to have a day dedicated to such at <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Jiminy</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Peak</st1:PlaceType></st1:place>. I would like to simply ask for the following:
Allow the trail “ACE OF SPADES” to be closed to the general public for one day between the hours of 8:00 am and 2:00 pm for the event to be held without fears of interlopers and non-snowboard traffic. Offer the Double chair “ribblet” lift to be utilized by event pass holders (as well as other guest) but offer a ten dollar off lift ticket coupon for people who show up for the event with an internet referral flyer or e-coupon who wish to utilize just this lift, Or pay the daily all-mountain pass at full price and enjoy the same carving experience. Local amateur and pro riders from afar will be coming to the mountain. Anyone who wants to watch or learn, are welcome, and it would be great if we could just have our own dedicated groomed trail and lift section for one day.
I expect approximately between 10 and 40 people to come to this.
Presently on the mountain there is 3 instructors and 2 mountain ambassadors who have hard boot gear, so there will indeed be Jiminy peak involvement, and it will be good PR for snowboarder/skier relations for the duration of the day all over the mountain as there always seems to be an animosity between them even though everyone is on the mountain for the same purpose; Enjoy the snow!
<o:p></o:p>
This is an initial proposal, and I’m sure details can be worked out that will benefit all involved as Jiminy has set up race courses for Schools and many other events.
Ideal day for said event would be a Sunday in late January, or early Feb. If a Sunday is not possible, then perhaps a weekday can be arranged.
<o:p></o:p>
Thank you for the consideration of this matter,
<o:p></o:p>
Dave “Espi” Sheedy
I'm working on getting a day in December or January where we can go and have Whirlaway and the Exhibition runs closed to non-carvers for 1/2 of the day.
If we can get atleast 12 people to say they can commit to it through either a sign up sheet or other forums jumping in with us and having a carver only hill for the morning with fresh groom, I can swing it with a proposal with the Mountain operations people at the fall meeting for returning winter workers.
We could do a Bar-B-Q also.
Anyone interested ?

Hey,
Can any of you east-coasters ( I are 1 now!), Let this ex-Midwest carver know where JiminyPeak is? I am looking to get hooked up with some venues for snowsports. I now live in Connecticut, which as I am learning is pretty much a snow-free-zone? At least compared to where I came from.

Hello all !
Well, I've been away on vacation i Maine for 10 days, and came back to a death in a friends family, so been "out of the loop" a few days. I missed the "returning Instructors training weekend" at jiminy lastweekend, but there is NEW HIRE CLINICS still going on next weekend and the weekend of Thanksgiving. Any skiers and riders want a job, come on up ! There are ZERO full time snowboarders on staff right now as instructors. If I can logisticly arrange it, I may go full, but it all comes down to cashflow.
BOMBER DAY is in the works, I spoke to Brian Fairbanks (resort exec) and the Mountain Ops and Events supervisor and they said "we will work on it when the snow flies".
THey hope to open the week of Dec 15th , but if it gets cold (and stays cold) they could try for a few early weekends with man made snow)
I'm looking at Either Mid January or March for carving as the conditions are nicest around those times with deep packed pow over boilerplate or granular mush in march that we can really just sink right into.

Opening weekend was kinda crappy I heard, and today ( looks even worse with the warm weather and rain... will be frozen boiler plate for sure this weekend, so leave the good gear at home. Sunday may be OK if the wind stops and they can actualy lay some snow with all the guns going on the mountain.
I think we are still a few weeks away before any width in trails is established for any sort of agressive carving :(

Sunday Nov 25th..... one word.
AWESOME !
A Great Day to be On the Slopes!
What a phenomenal day to be on the slopes! I just back from a few fabulous runs and I just had to tell you guys how awesome the conditions are. Jiminy's snowmaking crews have outdone themselves and they really laid out some great coverage and with the sun on it it softened up to a perfect shapeable snow, and yet still remained easily rideable and "Bisquick" texture. Took abotu 15 runs, in the sun down West Way to Grand Slam (wiped out and road/ice rashed my **** all up when I lost edge while pulling a high angle turn), then hit the Berkshire Express for a quick trip back up to the summit and check out North Glade to 360 - trust me, you'll be glad you did! Winter is here! Had a blast today got to see a bunch of familliar faces, and ride with some old friends, got a few sweet carves and trenches, did some training and technique improvements... and ofcourse fell abunch of times and have a well bruised ass from the frozen death-cookies at the bottom of Lower Exhibition into the 180 trail, but oh well, No pain , No fame :D
Saw POW, and Hanz, and we didn't get to ride all together on carvers ( My binds are still in transit from Bomber-inc) unfortunately, but always a good chance for a photo op :)

Have been a bit lax on it, and need to ask "the powers that be" if we can still do it. The season has been a bit "off" as all the good snow has been up in Vermont this year.
After Presidents week if the business is good, they will be in better spirits to entertai such day. Perhaps the weekend after ESCS. Thats the target zone. Weather has NOT been cooperating much. We need a good dump in the beginning of march or else it will just be a Spring slush-mush-fest for us.

If I get a list of people who want to come in advance, I can get 10.00 off lift passes for them, but it may also be an "E-coupon" day so passes may only be 35.00 if you go to the www.jiminypeak.com (http://www.jiminypeak.com/) website and sign up for it and print it out and bring it to the ticket windo (we will know more in a day or 2 on this) if not, I do have a bunch of 10.00 off coupons if people get a hold of me also.

You can also e-mail me through Bombers if you would like to come,or post your name to a running list here in this thread. Thanks :)
cheers,
D.
ps: I had the biggest "YARDSALE" ever in my riding career yesterday. I was hauling ass down the middle drop off of whirlaway into Exhibition trail, and I really do not know WTF happened. Was in a heal to toe transition, then the board "hopped" out from under me it chattered once, twice, then "ping!"my board came completely off, and I was sliding about 50 feet down the hill in a "ninja turtle" backspin, thankfully I had a leash ! (first time EVER needing it!)
Lets just say I came to stop, and immediately throught my legs were both broken........... I was fine though, but my confidence was shaken. Faith in these "non-releaseable" bindings is a bit waivering....... I may be velcro straping the toe bails once I lock in from now on.

Hey, where'd that copy come from, Dave? I'll come if I can really ride for $10 with my season pass to Wachoo... I didn't see that offer anywhere on the Jiminy site though. Anybody coming through Worcester and wanna give me a ride?

flux, I think you are missunderstanding what I posted.
At the time I was unsure if it was going to be an E-ticket day, OR I can give 10.00 off (a regular priced lift pass) coupon. It worked out that the powers that be decided to do an e-ticket discount this weekend aswell (usualy just once a month).
With the 5 inches of fresh snow today, it should be awesomely awesome sunday :)

Actually, I was referring to this text, which was in the "Weekend Update" that you posted a couple of posts up:
Season pass holders from another mountain are invited to come skiing or riding at Jiminy this spring for just $10 when their valid 2007/2008 season pass from another area is presented at the Crane Lodge Ticket Window.
I was just trying to find confirmation of that on the website, but couldn't, so I was wondering where that text came from.

My kid's cub scout "dinner" is on the 30th from 12 to 4 o'clock. I've been trying all week to get out of going to this but I can't. Welcome to the machine:mad:

Jim, I was a cub scout once......... I ended up an EAGLE scout.
Its a good program, be glad you are there with your son :) .... but I share your agony as I too have missed many a good "things" due to Blue and Gold dinners, and cout of Honors that conflicted with:
"Fun"....
I confirmed the 10.00 "Mountain ambasador" pass....good deal!
I'll be sure to call and speek to Mountain ops and ask um to make AoS super sweet for us :)
Bobby, no worries :) I picked up a K2 Nemisiss and will be destroying the soft crud on it instead of the proto.
We all will meet at the Main lift base around 9:00 am. I'll be there a bit early to put up some "closed for race" gates on the A.O.S. trail.
Sofar it looks like 10 of us +/- 2 and whoever wants to come join :)

Was great getting out with everyone today.
oh, and I don't know about you guys, but I got home. and my face is sunburnt..... I look completely silly. I'm going to have to go to a tanning booth and have a "facial" to cover up the areas that are tan outside where my helmet and chin straps cover are.
I'll see of I can get a good pic of it, but I bet you 3 have similar "odd tans"
