Hello my name is Dave* and I'm a boardaholic.
I made the mistake of mentioning in another thread my guessitmate of how many boards I had and people wanted to see a pic,
It turns out I underestimated by a few, I am officially over 40, there are 38 or 39 in the picture, and I forgot three or four buried in the closet and the bizik stick was skulking in its board bag in the corner of the hallway, by that time everthing was repacked and I really did not have a chunk of wall space big enough to fit them all in anyways for a reshoot.
As to boots/bindings/parts/gear that is a whole other issue.
A few more I can claim the world title.!!!!!! Bwaaahaaahaaahaaa!!!!!!!
It could be worse I could be collecting garden gnomes.
Soon I guess it will be time for the internet MOAGS ( mother of all garage sales)

Loved that board, it's what I had right before I started riding square tails exclusively. What size is it?

ArAngel you have a sharp eye to spy the 166 prowler in the mix, I rescued that thing just the other week, a diamond in the rough -it still has half of the factory wrapping on it minimal storage scuffs also, I have no idea where it came from to end up in SJies but I had to have it, havent gotten around to abusing it yet.
The only other deck still in wrapper is the 178 4807 which I never got around to riding as it was going to be horsetraded for a 198 undertaker to take over for my 185 undertaker,
My change in hills this season has me eyeballing a bunch of my smaller radius carving decks that have been left alone the previous years while at a much bigger hill, the 185s n 190 wil be a bit attention deprived this season I guess.

Dave,
What is that Coiler in the background? It looks wide... Is it really that long?
Dave*
December 9th, 2006, 11:00 PM
190cms, 20cm waist, sidecut long, built for a 300 pounder notorious for board destruction who claims it lost its "pop", still way stiffer than either 185 FPs or the 185 WCRs, he figured it was broken in just right for me

Hey Dave, let's discuss your last will and testament sometime over brunch. On a more serious note, my quiver used to be about double what it is now, but I whittled her down to my present five boards. All of them have the bases and edges in very, very good condition and if was dared to race gates tomorrow and not allowed to tune at all, I could not blame my equipment for a poor result. A 162, two 185's and two 188's.
The 185 burton's are interesting because they look the same, but are pretty differrent. Red one is tip: 224.6mm, waist: 178mm, tail: 223.8mm SCR:14.81 mtr.
Blue one is tip: 227mm, waist: 178mm, tail 222.6mm, SCR: 15.5 mtr. The blue one has 4 cm more running length. 169cm vs. 165cm. on the red one.
Blue one has 15mm. of camber, red one 12mm, both are very stiff.
The burner with bindings on it has 18mm of camber!!!! Makes for a lively ride.

Where is the yellow FP Dave? Didn't you have another?
I traded it and some cash to Dave* about six weeks ago for the burner 188 with no bindings on it. If you look in Dave*'s pic at the top, it's tucked in with the other 185's he's got. It was easy because Dave*'s secret lair is only about a half-hour drive from my place.

Home from work, getting caught up on the workings of BOL.
Carp - favorite builder right now Prior , but that is a proximity availability
thing, would love to get my mitts on some of the MADDs/Coilers/ etc
I am sure they would get my gearmomanometer into redline.
-current favorites by use are all Priors, my 179 4x4, 171 ATV
stiffened, and my old Prior Bizik custom.
Dave*s secret lair is kind of limited in wall space and would need forty odd foot of board space for a full profile line up of the ussual suspects. Not to mention no wide angle lens.
As to last will and testament, I plan on being buried with them all Viking Style to take with into the next life,
Am glad to hear there are others out there with more decks than myself.

In the meantime I'm still waiting for snow here in Superior California :(
p.s. Oh, yah! add TD2 SI's to the Donek and TD1 SI's to the grey RT, and TD1's to the Skinny. 2 pair of Burton plates outfit the Burton/Oxygen/RT 153's!!

http://derf.dyndns.org/%7Ederf/gallery/albums/snowboard_photos/DCP_0021.sized.jpg
1993 Burton Air 6.1, bought new after I got my first snowboard stolen after my first day. The bindings aren't mounted, but they are original Burton Freestyle bindings that the board came with.
1999 Nitro GTX 166, my second alpine board (I sold the first) bought new in 2001. This my main ride. I got some used Cateks last year.
1999 Burton Alp 7.1, got it used this year, I still haven't ridden it. The bindings are 1997 Burton Performance plates, bought new with my first alpine board.

Hey D-sub, yes, they are all of the 200's that have been produced and the extra 4 are wall hangers (3 are broken and 1 is a very rare Crown model that has never been ridden or had bindings mounted on it). All that are pictured can still be ridden and all ride a little different.

that doesn't really explain it for me, but the only one your reasons matter to is you.
but...why own a board that isnt gonna get ridden? It'll still be "rare"...

Bob, it depends on what year or "Sub" model for that year it is.
In general? More carbon fiber, stiffer. Bitchin black metal flake.
Lighter. Snap.
Road mine yesterday, good fun.
SVR, correct me if I am wrong please.

December 12th, 2006, 05:00 PM
Bryan, you are correct, and here are more details...the 02-03 Crown has stainless steel edges, Titanium inserts, and 6000 grade base, and the core has 30% kevlar, 70% carbon fiber. This makes it extremely light and snappy as well as only 33 of these boards were sold globally...and none of the 200's were sent to the US or Canada. It was only available in 172 and 200 and only 33 of each were sold. The 03-04 crown has many of the advances of the 02-03 but with a 4000 grade base, regular edges and inserts and all models for that year were crowns.

Unfortunately, I haven't. I really would like to try a freecarve board from any of the "big 3", but I never had the occasion. Maybe I should get together with the other Montréal riders, I know some ride good recent boards. And if I do get the occasion, I doubt I would be willing to spend the money on it.
Unfortunately, my snowboarding budget is limited. What I spent in several years, some spend on one board.
Just some quick figures (all prices in Canadian dollars):
Burton Performance bindings, bought new (on sale) in 1997: 200$+tx=230$ (reg: 250$)
Nitro GTX, bought new (old stock) in 2001: 290$ (taxes included)
Catek Olympic, bought used on eBay in 2005: 200$ (including shipping and exchange rate)
Burton Alp, bought used this year through Bomber: ~150$ (100$US + shipping + exchange rate)
I am not counting the Burton Air since I got it in high school in 1993 and I am not counting the boots either.
Total amount: 870$ for 2 boards and 2 set of bindings over a period of 10 years (maybe 800$US to get the idea)
Price of a Prior (direct): 800$+tx+shipping=880$
Price of a Donek (direct): 630$US+shipping+duty+exchange rate=800+$?
Price of a Coiler (direct): 680$+tx+shipping=760$
At this price, no bindings
Catek (direct): 289$+shipping+duty+exchange rate=360+$?
Bomber (yyzcanuck): 339$+tx+shipping=380$
F2 (yyzcanuck): 289$+tx+shipping=330$
Snow Pro (direct): 229$+tx+shipping=260$
So it is between 1020$ and 1260$ to not hold the sport back (:p) and get a good modern setup. And this is for one board. Now I have one freecarve and one all mountain and I have fun for the 5-10 days I ride each year. Would it be worth to pay more than 1000$ for something I ride 5-10 days a year? Maybe for some, but not for me (yet). And I would probably be single if I did that...:(
My Nitro will probably be done in a couple of years anyway since the edges are getting thinner because of the machine tune ups I have done once a year. I know, it's heresy, but that's the way it is for now. Maybe a demo Prior or a Pilot will be the way to go if I want a new board and if I want to support the industry, but I have my doubts on the Pilot since it is aimed at beginner carvers (and I consider myself intermediate).

I didnt say you had to buy a brand new board. I bought a demo WCR this summer for $350 US, including shipping, direct from Prior.
also got a HELL of a deal on the custom AWD i got last year
I hear you though...but with the money you spent, and recently, you could have more current gear

Recently, I spent 350$CDN. I admit I could have gotten a used Prior or Donek for that amount. But it would have been ridden with 10 year old Burton Performance bindings. I serioulsy thought about a used Donek Axis or Prior 4x4 as an all-mountain board, but I didn't even know if I would like the 21,5 cm waist (and I still don't know as I have not ridden the Alp yet). So I chose modern bindings last year and I don't regret it one single bit. And if I get another board to replace my freecarve board in a year or two, I will have some good bindings to put on it. I though a lot also before getting the Alp. At that price it was worth it, even if it is not the best all mountain board around. It should be better than my freecarve board when the conditions are choppy/loose snow. Last time I rode the Nitro in loose snow, it was horrible, even with Burton bindings. And I expect to ride my freecarve board more than my all mountain board (from my past experiences).
And the Nitro is not that bad. People that rode it (or other model/year) said it's an ok freecarve board. Lively, not very damp, nose stiff enough not to fold it, radius a little short though. Yeah, it's not current, but I have fun and I have not yet reached the limit of the board IMO.
And I ride it with the knees seperated...:flamethro

This board is the 1993 model, first year of the 3D bindings. It was a good board, but it's a noodle now. I rode it once two years ago and I regretted it (the too soft boots didn't help). I tried it last year with plates, just out of curiosity, not worth it. I keep it as a loaner board/rock board.

163 Head C140
156 Nidecker Extreme
163 LTD All-around
168 Hooger Booger Grinder
168 Volkl Renntiger
170 Generics IQ
174 Prior 4WD
169 Dynastar 3800
178 Dynastar 4807
There's 2 more pairs of skis and few more boards that I never used, so I do not count them (space limit, too ;) )
Well, little Nidecker and Limited also don't see the snow too often. Hooger is mostly loaner/learner this yer, due to aqizition of 4WD. Before it served as my AM board.
It seams that I still have space for a longer SL board and long GS board, as well as medium carving skis and powder skis :) Jeeez, I must have the same disease as Dave...

I like the burners myself but if you like them so much that you feel the need to hoard them maybe it's time you talked to Bruce and get you a coiler with a split tail
legend has it that they ride better than the sims stuff, are way more durable and the flex on the tail can be adjusted to some extent through the use of a aluminum bar
they are pricey so Bruce is reluctant to build one because of the extra work but he is willing if you are willing to pay at least thats how it seemed when I asked about one after talking with someone who had one.

if you have the money, why not? Jay Leno has over 100+ cars, and a few years back, he almost killed himself at an oval nascar track trying to set a high speed record in one of his cars... instead, a professional driver did it after he failed...
part of it is collectors item nostalgia or something, i would say. until coming here, i thought having more than 2 boards was completely unnecessary (1 to do the majority of your riding in, and 1 for early season rock boarding). now, i'd say 3-4 boards would be ideal for me. 1 - all mountain, 1 - on piste groomed carver, 1 - powder dedicated, and maybe 1 - beater rock board. anything more than that i don't think i could justify.
one of my uncles has over 60 guns in his house and 4000 rounds of ammunition - you'd think he was gonna start his own militia and start a rebellion or something. i think a lot of it is that it's just fun to collect them.

Can not comment that yet, but it is stiffer and due some stuff played with carbon it will have surely different ride. Snow hs been soft and being playing so much with new Tinkler and new titanal boards that have had no time to do proper testing with it yet.
Multiple boards, i have long windsurfing background and i had several sails, so why i would not have several boards? and have heard rumors that some people play some ball game with several "sticks" too, that sound really silly

sheffy...you dont spend a lot of time here, so you have no idea what the comment was in relation to (a past flameup that is now squashed and buried) but seriously...when someone posts something that looks as ridiculous as it would if I were serious, it usually means they're not serious.
if you want, you can find the "knees together" thread to find the root of my facetious comment.

Don't worry, it was a joke and I got it as I read Bordy's comments regarding this issue. If you read my replies, you'll see I don't take offense (I don't know if it comes through though) and I can justify myself.

I thought we were all supposed to play nice in 2007.
M: Ah. I'd like to have an argument, please.
R: Certainly sir. Have you been here before?
M: No, I haven't, this is my first time.
R: I see. Well, do you want to have just one argument, or were you thinking of taking a course?
M: Well, what is the cost?
R: Well, It's one pound for a five minute argument, but only eight pounds for a course of ten.
M: Well, I think it would be best if I perhaps started off with just the one and then see how it goes.
R: Fine. Well, I'll see who's free at the moment.
Pause
R: Mr. DeBakey's free, but he's a little bit conciliatory.
Ahh yes, Try Mr. Barnard; room 12.
M: Thank you.
