View Full Version : Which pass to get?? Colorado

Times running out and im not sure which I want.
Im really tired of breck, not to mention the people that go there. (could there be any more stereotypical snowboarders??)
I dont really go to a-basin anymore, didnt go at all last season.
Keystone is OK but its a little small, but atleast they have night riding.
and Vail... well... eh... havent been to BC in ages, but I liked it and think it would be the best out of the 5, with the exception of the drive, and ill mostly be doing day trips(less anyone wants to split an overnighter)
Then with the other pass Copper is ok, but still not thrilled with it, and WP, dont really care for the drive, so I probably wouldnt hit it more than a hand full of times.
someone sell me on one or the other.
if i had to choose it take Keystone and copper.
But it i had my choice id take Aspen, BC, steamboat.
help :lurk:

Doesn't it suck to have decisions like this?
DiveBomber
October 26th, 2006, 05:20 PM
yeah it does, cause theres only 2 passes to choose from, and neither of the options thrill me.
Now if lift tickets were priced at $25 a day like they should be, i wouldnt even bother with them

I wish I could help, I'm not too familiar with places outside of Aspen. I do enjoy going to Copper though. Not as many people as other areas in Summit, and it has some pretty good terrain.

well youre lucky you live out there. Im sure if i did, i wouldnt bother with the most other places either, But Im thinking im going to give loveland a try this year.
And I'm leaning towards the 5 mtn pass, just for some variety plus still cheaper at vail, but last time i never used all my days there.

Yeah, loveland is good times when I go there early and late season. The mountain has a real "homey" characteristic to it I enjoy. I'm heading there right now, actually.

Seems to me you can't go wrong with any of the choices but if it were me I'd go with the 5 mountain pass:

Reasonably priced access to A-Basin, Breck, Keystone, Vail, and BC--all world class resorts.

Each features an incredible variety of terrain, outstanding snow, and known-but-to-locals secret powder stashes.

Keystone night riding.

A-Basin Beach Party.

I've got the 5-mountain just because it made sense to have more mountains for a little more than one or two...plus I love A-basin...then again I haven't been here long enough to be jaded yet.
Loveland is fun and you'll get to ride with "two speed" Mario...full out and stop.

Yes. They go to Loon Mtn. Here in NH. One got in our gondola and asked us if we minded if he smoked some wacky weed on the ride up. We said that we minded very much and told ski patrol at the top. He got served. Sorry for the threadjack.

Not to jump on the thread jack But at least the cat asked you if it was o-kay if he smoked up. I have had people just light up before.
And not to start a argueement just to state my opinion why send a brother down the river for being courtiuos. I know you young and it may have felt like the right thing to do. But do you think it correct to bust a dude for asking. If he would have just sparked it them I can understand the ratting them out.
side note,
I grew up at Loon and Waterville and am stoked to see the riders and Pros in that area finnilly getting some long deserved Props Even Trainsworld listed them in their top 25 I think they are the only east coast resort listed.
Loon has a lot of thanks to Steve Ash and his hardcore park work. I hope it wasn't him you Busted....Just kidding

tried to clam up but I'm with Billy on this one. Ratting the kid to patrol is WEAK. If he was a jackass about it, even then, you could have just pistol whipped him.The mega type-A personality needs to learn live and let live.
That being said.....
I'd sway towards Copper and A Basin for a pass. When I lived and worked out there, I rode alot at Vail/BC but always preferred the vibe/terrain elsewhere.
Loveland looked so sweet yesterday ...for early season that is.
footnote:have ya seen The Departed yet ? Great flick.

when you're doing something illegal is always my policy. I take care of my business in the trees.
I respect other people by not letting them know (sort of like the drunk driver, until he T-bones you...  ).
Either way, I'd rather have a bunch of stoners up on the slopes than a bunch of drunks.
Back on topic. You're lucky to have so many choices of resorts. Socal has a whole two (maybe 3 if you count mt. baldy) resorts to choose from (Mt. High and Big Bear). Both of which have more (park) monkeys than the Amazon rainforest...

I have family in Denver and that pass that includes Breck is the best one, and is SO CHEAP compared to back east. Like 300 bucks early bird? That one is so cheap you have no excuse not to hit some of these other places like loveland and copper a 1/2 dozen times at least for variety.
I'm headed out for a week to breck in feb. I can't wait! I guess they have a ski in/out place on peak 8. Please stop by an have an espresso and/or a 'buca shot and shoot some video of sick railed turns.

THIS WEEKEND - go out and buy either a 4 day ($179) or 7 day $239) Aspen Classic Pass and ride Buttermilk. But if you do,you may not want ride the Summit County areas again. I know I don't, unless you long for crowds.

Berthoud Pass is my favorite area . . . free, steep and deep, but I guess you guys like your corduroy. I do too sometimes. At the prices that these combo passes sell for, you could buy both for less than for the price of a season's pass anywhere else in the world.
As for the dope, well, it may become legal in Colorado after the Nov. 7 election. Hope all you heads are registered to vote! Or did you space out on that? So, if the marijuana initiative passes, it will be legal to posess up to an ounce, but illegal to smoke it or buy it. Sound like our government?

I-70 to exit 232, Highway 40. You can jump off almost anywhere and end up on the highway again. (Although I've had to swim out of there in arm-pit deep snow a few times.)

I agree with you on that one Cindy. Sometimes when my friends and I ski Independence Pass in the spring, we have to hitch back up. And there is a significant difference in time when you have cute women with you, as opposed to the usual ragtag crowd I ski with. We always let the women do the thumbing. :biggthump

i would say where are you going to go to the most. i think most people buy the colorado pass because you get 5 mountains, but in reality most people only go to like 1 or 2. if you plan on going to a vail resort mostly get the CO pass. if you're over the hype of vail resorts go with a third choice, how about the loveland pass, under $300, no crowds(comparatively) and good terrain w/out the hype of nearby resorts and a long season. mid-week passes there are less than $200.
-Cindy-where in WP do you live? I'm moving to granby tomorrow, and am all about the backcountry, although i'm no mexican hottie-most people think i'm a guy when i'm in full sb gear. but i manage to get rides at loveland pass w/out problems.

Do you hate crowds and traffic as much as I do? I do not have the option of riding during the week, so I get up reaalllllly early and try to get to morrison before 6:15. This puts me at my favorite resort way before most of the gapers and jibbers are thinking of getting out of bed, and as a consequence, very little traffic, and I usually get on one of the first 20 chairs. No crowds. No liftlines and open runs. I was able to get in 10,000 vertical before 9:30 this morning, thusly, I was finished early enough to avoid the teeming masses that have finally gotten it togther and now are overrunning the slopes. Out of the parking lot and down the hill early enough so I barely had to hit the brakes(read no traffic). All of the pass deals we are fortunate to have out here sholud make it a no brainer, and with lift tickets as cheap as they are right now and for the next month, you can do plenty of on slope reseach to figure out where you want to go. Go early, ride hard, and have fun.
