Mentos and Diet Coke Extraveganza

Our ski club held it's annual summer bike weekend at our lodge in Vermont and one of our members staged an extraveganza utilizing Mentos and Diet Coke. You may have seen this done before but it's still worth watching. You'll note I'm the only one with enough sense to wear goggles.

If you're at work, be sure to turn your speakers DOWN so you can barely hear them.

Try this:

Ingredients:

1 two-liter half filled with water
chunks of dry ice small enough to fit into the two-liter
1 empty metal wastebasket
plenty of room

1) Drop the dry ice chunks into the two-liter.
2) Cap tightly.
3) Place metal wastebasket upside down over two-liter
4) Move away and wait

Warning - do not try this inside or near anything breakable.

Not to be done at home, but...a big hit when I was in high school, the 2 chemistry teachers would get a trash can(the metal type), fill it half full of water, stand everybody back 50 feet and throw a big chunk of sodium hydroxide in it(the 2 make a superconcentration of lye) The result was a big "whoosh" and the sides of the trash can would get sucked in
