The famous "D-Sub" Prior WCR 185cm (http://www.finelineclub.com/pics/v/album_001/Prior+WCR+185cm+D-Sub/) for those who just can't get enough details :biggthump
I would love to hear the details (your plan) of how you will increase your DOS

simple:
I will be living near the mountains again. Not sure where yet, but I will.
I had a hard year this year. wont go into detail, but to question my love for riding would be silly.
and yup, thats the board. I cant WAIT to get a more current WCR
odd, you have it listed as a 183.
its a fun board.

Hey Dave, look forward to riding with you! :biggthump
Actually it is listed as a 185cm. The file names are off. Happens when you are editing hundreds of photos ;)
I sincerely hope you can get your sorry Xss up on the mountain next season. Just recall my numerous early morning "Wake Up Calls" to help motivate you??

yeah, you're way too much of a morning person!
I got MUCH better at it that season...but ever since I stopped fishing Ive had a hard time getting up early. bed is just too comfortable sometimes.

June 4th, 2006, 06:26 PM
well, it helps a great deal if you had a lodging that's a stone's throw from the lift, and you could get up and go on the chair with bed hair, and be back in a jiff for a nice shower. had an employee housing in lions' head which was like a block from the gondola. it was sooooo nice. too bad they had to revive the whole village and decimate the building.
nevertheless, youre lucky i dont live next door to you cuz i'd be kicking the door with hardboots to say "time to get up. u got five minutes to get on the chairlift." :)

say, have you thought about doing tail slide 360? its fun. i do it all the time, just to sharpen up myself whenever im "warming up" for race course practice with team copper. sometimes i would get it all dialed in by going backwards. just a bit more adjusting to do to get accostomed to it.

I do watch for things to avoid doing too

picked up the tip from some japanese carver 'zine. and thought i'd spice up my riding routine. boy does it add the "fun" dimension. doesn't hurt to suggest one for you, to add to your bag of tricks like poppin' in the air. :)

I cant quite visualize how youd do one.
maybe next season Ill learn those turtle-back slides like Bordy and them do!

there was a day early in the season when I was riding with a BOLer from AZ and his buddy from Portland...
I was on my MLY 167, and I was hitting THE best turns I have EVER made. I felt like I was angulating perfectly, and was getting DEEP into the turns. Crystal clear day, firm snow...was SUCH a BLAST!
wish I had vid of that day.
I used to feel SO free when we'd have me, bryan, greg, jack, jason and his girlfriend, galen, ed, Tim...man there were some cool folks up there
I miss the place. who knows....
LeeW
June 6th, 2006, 07:07 PM
God. I miss living there -- Seattle (Queen Anne for you locals) and Government Camp. I long to return. I need to finish my career ladder in the backbone of the ski industry out in Colorado. It may be possible Ill split my time between the NW and Colorado. Two solid reasons of my longing for the PNW; Diversity of the people and the consistency of snowfalls (minus winter of 04-05).
As for tail slide 360, just lean back to shift the weight on the back part of the board, and then slide it nicely around then back to riding after 360 turn or 180 turn to fakie carve.
Actually, Ill have to hunt for that magazine and see if I could scan those photo and email them personally to you. How's that? That's if I get around to it. I got my hands full -- school, work and racing motorcycle/working out to get ready for next season snowboard race season. So Ill try to squeeze in the time for it.

June 6th, 2006, 07:45 PM
oh I get it. sorta a tail pivot move...
Id probably eat crap. but Ill try it next season.
yeah, PNW is a unique place, no doubt. Bend is really neat...only place Ive spent any extensive time.
LeeW
June 6th, 2006, 09:29 PM
Yeah, you could say tail pivot swing. its fun. no way would i try to do 290 tail slide in air, dude. that's just so... damian.

buttering, eh? never even heard that term. sounds like thats what lee was talkin about
to be totally honest, I am of the opinion that most non-carving "maneuvers" look kinda awkward and clunky on a carving rig. a lot of the pics of airs I see look funky, slidin rails, etc...
Im of the school that if it doesnt look good, dont do it. like Red Dog says. style!
buttering.

click on "noseplant"
I've seen it done on the tail as well.
the way you lean back on your slow straightline sections of the video you could probably pull that easy...but I'm not a big fan of that move.

and the nose press are probably the best ways I can think of to learn complete board conntrol in softboots

Agreed. I think that my vid looked awkward. I was just learning at the time and I was also in ski boots. The worse part is the tight clothes though. :D ;)
I think it looks good now though - I've got it dialed and can really get on the tail (or nose) more. I also think that airs and rails can look good on plates, but we've been down this road before.
D-Sub
June 7th, 2006, 12:25 PM
heh. the tight clothes were the best part.
I wasnt sure if that was you or not, and yeah it looked awkward, but if you were just learnin em
you know...I think a lot of times people do stuff at too slow a speed, and it makes it look kooky.
and...I dont think we went down the "style" road before...just whether or not all these tech tricks can be done in plates. TONS of claims from people "I can do that" and NO pics or vids!
sure...some pics of people sliding rails, or a couple straight airs, but they usually look clunky.
that pic of greenwood in the pipe is the best yet.
I should scan some of the old pics from the Bertrand Denervaud piece in TWS. He rocked it.

THAT's what I call style. Just matter of preference. I just simply come from freestyle/freeride background (skate grom when i was a snot-filled kid). Just happen to be better in carving, and I just like to remind myself why I got into this in the first place -- bunch of fun!
