Is it a really great problem when my boots overhang?

In the beginner hard booting stages a little boot overhang is ok, but as you start getting more and more edge angle, you will eventually "boot out", which means your boots will hit the snow causing your edge to slide out from under you.

If you do a deep carve and your overhanging boot hits the snow, you will lose your edge and fall on your face. So, yes overhanging boots can be a problem.
