Who can participate in the Summit Expression Session?
The Summit Expression Session is open to EVERYONE.
Hey, you can show up on an inner tube and we won’t care. However,
the event does “emphasize" the use of hard boot style snowboarding
and considering the activities we have planned that would be your best
choice of equipment. Riders choosing not to be an official Participant
are more than welcome. The Summit Expression Session is a carving festival
for riders of all abilities. If you want to improve your skills, riding
with better riders is an invaluable opportunity; if you or your friends
want more formal instruction, we can help to arrange for an introductory
alpine snowboarding lesson. Please let us know before the event.

I have a significant other/friend who wants to learn to carve. Can you help?
Yes, we can set up lessons for you through the mountain for an additional fee. Contact us as soon as you know that you would like to take a lesson. There also will be clinics during the event, but only for intermediate riders.
Sounds great, so how do I participate?
Easy, just show up. But do us a favor and let us know you are coming and sign up HERE (sign up will be added later). If you want to take advantage of group rate tickets packaged with the end of the week party go HERE.
Is this a good time of year to visit Colorado?
Are you kidding? February is notoriously known for one of the best snow months in Colorado. Also, it is the gap between the Christmas/New Years crowd and the Spring Break rush. Compounded by the fact we will be at the mountains during midweek, we will essentially own the hill. Heaven only knows this is a good thing as the damage a 100+ carvers can do to a hill can make a mountain manager cry.
How will the Demo Tent work?
The plan is to have a Demo Tent set up at the bottom of the hill at the event. At the tent we will have boards, boots, and bindings for riders to try out. Only official participants of the event are allowed to demo gear. We will also have a small fee in place for walk-ups if you want to try gear. We will have the Demo Tent up first thing in the morning. The amount of time you can try the equpiment is going to be based on the “courtesy"system. What does that mean? Well if you take a board out that every-one is dying to try, and you keep it all day to yourself, that would be “uncourteous". All we ask is you bring the equipment back in a reasonable amount of time (and in good shape). Enough time to get a feel for it, but not long enough to where others will be giving you the “stink-eye" because they waited for 4 hours for you to come back.
Is this a good event for an entire family?
Absolutely! Aspen, Colorado is one of the premier vacation destinations, and ranks alongside Disney World for family fun and activities. Regardless of your family members’ riding or skiing ability, the mountains and trail systems of Aspen valley offer innumerable winter outdoor activities including snow shoeing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling or dog sledding. For the off days, Aspen is composed of several picturesque original mining towns. Finally, Aspen hosts a multitude of retail shopping outlets, to satisfy the traditional American pastime, as well as culture and art museums for those who want a little something different.
What in the world is a “Carve Limbo? contest?
Definitely, the on-snow hit of the event. The basis for the contest is pretty straight forward. A rider will start at a predetermined point on the hill. Below will be a “limbo" type stick that the rider will have to carve under and not knock the pole off. As the riders widdle down to the “lowest" the pole will be dropped until there is a winner. The winner last year won it by clearing 11.5 inches! Go here to see more...
So what is the deal with the videographer?
There will be a few people at the event to capture the essence of the Summit Expression Session on video. They will be riding with us every day taking lots of footage that hopefully will one day make it to a DVD. Tremendous wipeouts will be rewarded, so ride hard!
Is it best to rent a car?
Tough one. Do you absolutley NEED a car, maybe. Is it nice and convenient to have a car, yes. Aspen is approximately 4 hours drive (weather dependent) from Denver. Once you get to Aspen, they have a really good and FREE bus system that takes you to every resort in the Valley, dpeending on where you are staying. Also, you can use resort buses that will take you from the Airport to your accommodations and back. Another consideration is where you are flying in to: Denver or Aspen? Aspen also has an airport, but sometimes it is closed due to weather. If the airport is closed, they will fly you to Denver where you are on your own to get to Aspen. So in theory, you can do with out a car. However, not only are they convenient but we will be traveling a bit and considering the nature of carvers and how we always like to carry our “quiver" where ever we go, it makes it nice. Make sure to get either a front wheel drive or SUV as, well, it IS Colorado in the Winter. Enough said (except, don't drive like a gaper from Texas, SUV or not).
Where should I stay?
Please refer to our Lodging page for Aspen.
Aspen, home to many elite hotels and B&B's, also has some affordable options. Best thing to do is to get on the forum and ask where everyone else is staying and SHARE SHARE SHARE! Stay tuned for more details.
